    Update for 2023: Or try VideoProc bit.ly/3yAPMNh to download Videos with subtitles, or extract subtitles from MKV, MP4, AVI, VOB and any videos in SRT format.

    Good morning David from Cancun, Mexico.

      Hi Miguel,
      Thanks for reaching out and your kind words are highly appreciated.
      Here are some few gigs I'd recommend you try to set up on Fiverr.
      1. Translating subtitles from Language (X) to Language (Y) e.g. Spanish to English or Vice Versa. These 2 language pairs have a ton of work especially in the movie, tv shows, etc
      2. Quality Assurance/Quality Check of Automatically Generated Subtitles from TH-cam Videos.
      3. Adding Open Captions to videos especially when content has Lower Third Graphics e.g. news segments, etc
      I hope this helps. :-)

I am an ardent fan of Turkish drama serials but I don't understand the language and always look for those with english subtitles. However the subtitles do not make sense to me as they appear to be literal translations out of context. I was wondering if there are softwares that could do a a good translation of the dialogues spoken & provide the subtitles based on the episode videos. Thank you so much.

      @@OneBrokeBloke With Subtitle Edit, you'll only be able to get the subtitle file as a separate file. As for MkvToolNix, you can save the video, audio, or even subtitle individually.

      @bccabernet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OneBrokeBloke - I know you asked a year ago, but just in case you're interested... the MKV Toolnix GUI programme doesn't have to use any compression (it's in the settings) when you save your file into MKV. You can add or remove subtitles easily with this programme. All audio and subs pop up in the programme when you drag the video file into it and you can uncheck the ones you don't want to keep. You can name the tracks of the audio (ie: Commentary) or subtitles if you wanted to. If the video file already has a subtitle in there and I don't want it -but want to add a new one, I add the video file first. Uncheck the sub I don't want and then add the sub I do want. That way I am not getting the subtitles mixed up. The same idea proceeds for audio if you want to add a new one and remove the old. This programme will also convert all other video files into MKV without having to re-encode them... and done within minutes!

    I'm having difficulties trying to extract the subtitles from the movie "Yummy". The subtitles are there when playing it through VLC. When I open the file in Subtitle Edit it shows timestamps but no text. I can't play this on my TV either through UMS. UMS reports the subtitles on the TV as being "IntSub:PGS:English" if that helps any. Subtitle Edit shows them as "S/HDMV/PGS".
    UPDATE AGAIN. I got this to work. I'm posting this now for others who have difficulties getting the subtitles from their files. I had taken a BluRay file and converted using FFMPEG. The subtitles worked fine in VLC but not on my TV via UMS. When using the raw BluRay file the program apparently used the OCR function and not the stream to determine the text as is not perfect regarding words, letters, and spacing but it will do.

      @@David_Mbugua I understand that it would be a challenge if the two videos were of different quickly. But they were captured on the same recorder, from the same source. Comparing the two videos should be possible, using identical parts to create a mask. It is not like they have been through lots different conversions and compressions. There should not be a lot of different compression artifacts in the non subtitle areas, making them very equal.
      The prefered option would be to convert the resulting bitmap subtitle, to text base subtitle, but just getting a bitmap subtitle would be acceptable if usable.
      Getting dubbed sound track and original sound track I just sync two recordings. Sound tracks are (almost) insignificant in size, but two full frame video tracks will double the size. I expect a successful bitmap subtitle extraction to be way smaller than a full frame video, and of corse text base subtitle to be even smaller.

      Only soft subs. I don't think there's a way to extract hard subs coz they are permanently hard coded into the video.

    I have a question: how to remove subtitle completely from a video?

    • @David_Mbugua
      @David_Mbugua  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the subtitles are hard subbed/open captioned, you cannot remove them because it is burnt into the video. Thanks!

    All I want to do, is to extract the closed captioning text from television show episodes, that not only shows what is being said, but which character is saying it.
