As someone who lives in Japan, everything he is saying about what Japanese toilets come equipped with is true. They also have options such as the sounds of nature to drown out the sounds of you taking a poo. They also have a special gas they release from the bowl with covers the smell as well. And yes, they DO clean you way better than toilet paper. I haven't had to use toilet paper in 6 years.

When I visited Japan, my friend and I went to a bar and got drunk.
The place looked nice, but it was underneath a railway and to go the bathroom you had to cross a kind of storage construction corridor.
I wasn't even expecting a hole at this point, but man was I wrong.
I opened the door, the lights switched on, the toilet seat opened and the toilet greeted me.

I went to a Japanese hotel in Manhattan for work- it was the only hotel available in the area. The concierge kept saying "each room comes with a smart toilet", but I didn't understand. I finally tried one out. After you go, there were 3 different cleaning cycles to choose from, sort of like a modern car wash. Also, you could choose "back" or "front", I assume the latter is for menstruating women (as a male I did not try). A little arm swings out under your butt, and proceeds to do a power wash. Even the gentle cycle was almost too much for me. After that, a tiny hair dryer swings out and dries everything up. No toilet paper needed.

Then there is the transportation of wood, processing it into paper, making it suitable for purpose (bleaching, chemicals) and then transporting it to the store (wrapped in plastic packaging) and then you having to go out and buy it...
The tons of fuel burnt so you can wipe your butt is definitely greater than the toilet seat which should hopefully last for decades?

Absolutely accurate! FYI the Japanese also make bidet toilet seats that fit on your existing toilet and have most of the bells and whistles but much less expensive.

@@vaultdude4871 Because the issue is when it sprays, you get deflection of crap particles. Americans tend to time when they go with a shower since we take 1-2 a day. I personally used a cup of hot water and dip a roll of about 15 sheets of strong double ply knitted toilet paper so it stays together even when wet.
I kinda like that method better than a bidet, in part because there's no spray mess and you get the same cleanliness as when I had bidets when stationed in Europe for 6 years and Japan and SKorea for 2 each.
Both methods are fine, but even with a bidet, I still used toilet paper to assist since the sprays were never 100% at getting everything and on top of that, the dryers barely ever worked. You'd have to sit there for nearly ever until your soaked bottom is dry.
