Haversacks and Knapsacks are two different things. Haversacks were issued and used for ration storage. The knapsack was used for personal items, blankets and the like. At the time of making this video I did not have a knapsack.

@@HelmetOfHonor A lot of the time it was what the soldier preferred. Most times when marching with a knapsack it shifts your movement a lot when it comes to staying in formation. But with a knapsack you have a lot more room to deal with when it comes to storing your items compared to the bedroll.
@flatearthisahoax4030 the soldiers were issued boots.. I do not know if only some soldiers were issued the gaiters or not. The gaiters prevent dirt and other items from coming in side. Soldiers wore ankle boots with gaiters till the end of the korean War.
It depends on what each regiment was outfitted during the war, the majority of regiments in the American Civil War were volunteer, so Colonels would usually outfit their regiments. trousers were said back in the day in the U.S. usually, and on official military documents about the uniform they're referred to as trousers I believe
