I have some Fender guitars that are poly finish and a few that are nitro finish. Strats, Teles, and Jazzmasters. I can attest that they feel totally different, and age totally different. I personally prefer the nitro, but they both have their pros and cons.
Being a McCready and Frusciante fan, I had to order one. It has a killer look and since its a limited signature, it will hold its value. I currently own an american elite 3 color sunburst. I'll be anxious to compare the 2 when it gets here.
For the price… it’s a no brainer. If you are a fan of Mike Mcready and love his Strat but cannot afford the Fender Custom shop version…the Mexican Fender is the way to go. Actually it would be very interesting to have a shoot out and compare both versions. I myself own two custom shops and both Guitars needed modifications to make them playable.
I have bought the mexican mccready 2 weeks ago. In Germany they are sold out now! Price was 1699 Euro. I had 2 Custom Shop strats before (1960s in candy apple red relic and a Limited Edition namm 2020 1961 aged seafoam green sparkle with a roasted neck). The 1960s was a mass production! The relic on the neck was absolutely unrealistic! Just 2 little areas sanded. Body was finished really nice. Bought it 2017 for 2900 Euro. Too much for my taste. The 61 was really beautiful but it was listed for 4300 Euro! Of course i didnt expect the mccready to be " better" just out of the box. But for me it was clear, that I will detail the guitar by myself. And there is plenty of " potential" in it! Frets were rouge, the checking of the paint was looking very artificial, the bare wood of the body was not aged, the setup was bad. Exactly what i have expected! I have seen some Fotos of this model online, where the 2 piece body was glued from 2 different grain pieces, glued off Center together, which looks very cheap! This was my biggest concern, as you dont know, what you get, when buying online! I was very lucky, as my guitar with a serial number 1108 is a 2 piece body , glued in the Center with similar grain. The Nitro lacquer is very thin, with no cracks! What i did: Took off the neck, polished frets and finished the fretends like on the Custom shop strats. I detailed the edge contour of the bone nut and removed the paint residue- better than the Custom shop! I sanded the edge of the fretboard, where it meeting the pickguard. It looks like the rolled fingerboard edges now! The neck sits perfectly in the neck pocket! No shim for neck angle! As the factory aging of the body is due to production costs not as like the Custom shop guitars, I have finished it much nicer and more realistic. I have treated the laquer with ice spray for cracks. Very easy and looking really nice. As for the playability and the sound, my mccready is now on par with the Custom shop strats, that I had. I think, for me this guitar is worth the money.
I tried one today, i wanted to love it but didnt. Its made for mccready fans, having said that, id buy it if i thought it was a truly beautiful guitar that i spired me to never put it down. I feel the stock MIM models feel better than this, and im sorry but that relic job and slightly discoloured knobs and pickguard do not warrant the price boost. In Australia its $3100, and i feel thats probably $1K too much. If you love it, my hat is off to you, but for me its not worth its price.
Relic in the pictures looks kind of fake, but looks pretty cool in person. Also, it feels really good in hand, very vintage-like. Very nice neck, really nice. It is criticized maybe because not a lot of people have had the chance to play one yet, and logically it seems expensive, but when you get one you see that it is a different kind of animal than most of other MIM guitars.
Brother i dont think that a guitar that expensive is whort it, but if the the people have money and want it, just do it you just live once, and that guitar problably has a great sound to man just not my vibe.

The best relic job we've seen from Fender? You're admitting that you've never seen a Cobain Road Worn Jag from 2011-2013 in person, because that relic job blows this one out of the water as far as accuracy and detail.Thta guitar is essentially a Custom Shop from Mexico. The McCready can't hold a candle to that guitar, but they also couldn't be too good on this general release version, because some dummies paid $10k for the 60 piece Custom Shop version that now resell for $22-25k.
Its funny. In the old days real guitarists bought new guitars and played them to the point they were aged and beat to hell, each scratch, dent and bump yells a story of their journey to becoming a seasoned musician. These days, 'guitarists' spend top dollar on new guitars that look beat up and discuss their value... If you want to buy it because you arw chasing its tonal properties, i get it. If youre buying it because you are a fan of the band or artist, i get it. If youre buying it because of its value, youre a tool.
Honestly no it's not worth it. It's just a relic guitar. I would rather buy the American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster. Plus wouldn't a early 60's Strat have a 7.25 fretboard radius and not a 9.5 radius like the McCready has.
