@Certyfikowany Przewracacz Hulajnóg Elektrycznych lol what. Just because not everyone can play it it doesn’t make it any less underrated, for a solo to be great it doesn’t have to be easy to play
@7:13 This lick is basically an ostinato and underlying bass gives the new taste to ostinato each time @11:04 Fantastic quote. Many people underestimate the power of good harmony and chord progression for writing a great solo. Sometimes with a good progression you can play anything on top and it sounds great(of course notes related to progression). Western music is literally a 2 dimensional music and often the main dimension(harmony) is overlooked. You can jam over a good progression for hours and never get tired. Keep up the good job bro
I believe Marty Friedman is the most iconic guitar player in Megadeth history! Won’t get in the discussion who’s the best because they are all so great! But I believe Marty is the one responsible for Megadeth has so many followers!
Chris Poland showed the world what jazz can do to Thrash, Marty took that and added the hirajoshi scale + his pop sensibilities and took it to the next level, and kiko is doing his own thing but has taken and learned from past megadeth guitarist understanding what a Megadeth lead guitar player is. Broderick on the other hand was pure machine technical to a tee
Kiko added that Brazilian music present in Bossa. The best example is "Conquer or Die" from the Dystopia album. Best lead guitarrist to me, next one gotta be Poland, or Friedman idk
@@supernothing77yes. Marty is a big fan of pop, especially jpop so he knows how to make guitar melodies and licks that sound almost as if it's a singer singing. It's very obvious in a lot of his playing, especially nowadays if you follow his music at all in the modern era.
My personal favorite Megadeth guitarist is Chris Poland .. But Marty is right next to him for sure. He's awesome! Jeff Young is also a really good player ... after all, there's no bad guitarist played in Megadeth.
I remember as a teenager back in the 90’s, I’d rewind this on my cassette player and listen to the solo over and over. This was in a vacuum so to speak, with no one else to influence my opinion or listening. It’s awesome that this solo has been recognized by the world.
That solo was a challenge to me. My guitar playing changed ( improved a lot) after I covered that amazing solo! Tip: If someone wanna learn that solo, please play it with feelings! BTW, I`ve never seen any bad guitarists playing for Megadeth, but Marty is just a legend!
Chris Poland is my favorite, but Marty is a close 2nd. "Peace Sells, But Who's Buying" and "Rust In Peace" are both masterpieces. It's like choosing between "Ride The Lightning" and "Master of Puppets!" Which Peace do you prefer?
Metallica has a lot of legendary songs, but most part of the solos aren't made with so caution and inspiration like Megadeth does. Master of puppets is a masterpiece of thrash metal, 'cause the introduction, tempo and lyrics are perfect, but the solo is basically something put there just to not letting the song without solo... listening carefully, you"ll realize that there are a lot of good songs out there, but with solos not so good...
Yeah it's splitting hairs when comparing Megadeth and Metallica. I'd have to say 'Master of Puppets' is, probably, the greatest thrash song ever but, when considering the entirety of their catalogues, I'd have to give it to Megadeth.
Playing this and lucretia solos is extremely satisfying. Martys creativity is something else. Especially how he put the lucretia solo together. There's plenty there that doesn't make sense but he made it make sense and sound insane
Kiko is also a great lead guitar player. He applies a lot of music theory which makes his solos interesting. I’d say it’s between Marty and Kiko in terms of musical ability.
Kiko is my favorite megadeth guitarist, (though i admire marty greatly and hes like the main reason i started listening to megadeth. ) something about kikos performance on conquer or die is just so unmatched.
I agree with all this. I think People just repeat that this the greatest solo....So therefore everyone repeats that. I agree this solo is cool, but not the best recorded by Megadeth
Every guitarist who has played for Megadeth brings a different flavor to the music. Chris Poland's playing, with his Jazz Fusion sound, is incredible. I could listen to him play all day, and did years ago when I would listen to one cassette for days at a time. Marty's spices up his solos with arpeggios and exotic scales. His ability to twist and turn like a rollercoaster blows my mind like it did when I first listened to Rust in Peace. Dave's solos I love as well. They are like a chainsaw welding madman at times, full of intensity. He may not play like Chris or know the scales like Marty, but he takes what he does know and uses it to its fullest. As for Kiko and the others, I don't listen to as much Megadeth recorded after Marty left as I should, so I can't give a comment on them.
@Certyfikowany Przewracacz Hulajnóg Elektrycznych Yeah, I realize I misspelled that one but never when back to change it…. As for “So Far….”Jeff Young’s style seemed too close to Dave’s on the album. While cleaner, it just did not feel different enough to me. I wonder if that’s why Jeff’s solos has so much reverb…
This analysis is fantastic and I am pleased I found this and your channel. I love the insight of Theory through the song which is great for a meaner like me 😊 Thank you 🙏
This is obviously one of the best ever written, but one of my personal favorites is the Good Mourning solo. It serves as a wonderful work up into Black Friday. Also, the verse uses minor inversions making it even more interesting
Not only is the musicianship on this album godlike, but lyrically it's also a masterpiece. As for guitarists, Marty is my favorite only because of Rust in Peace. I would have liked to seen Chris Poland on 1 more album after Peace Sells. He was exceptional as well.
Marty! By far! That guy set a whole new standard for every lead guitarist there after! Everyone before him is obsolete and everyone after him derives from his influence!
Kind of? I always found Marty's style to be great and efficient, but I don't really see many use anything from him other than sweep picking despite his style being so easy and there being so much room for additional elements and letting their creativity improve the entire thing with variations... I still like Chris Poland more, though. Even Marty had trouble with his stuff.
I agree…. Friedman has the absolute signature line. Broderick KIKO n Poland where all great but MEGADETHs best lead guitar player is Friedman. ISNT IT OBVIOUS the BEST MOST PROFICIENT GUITAR record from the band to this date is RUST IN PEACE AND Countdown to Extinction.
Always dug Marty’s style more, but there is something unique about Chris Poland’s playing, and Chris Broderick’s mastery is insane. Edit: Kiko is great too
When he talks about the harmonic minor 5th - the diatonic V ( 5th) chord in every major key and in harmonic minor is a dominant 7th chord, bc the major third of the 5th chord is the the major 7th of the key, aka the lead tone, which has a strong pull to be resolved by the I chord. A minor V is diatonic to natural minor but in commercial music the dominant V is frequently substituted to create the motion towards the I. In context of this song, play F7 in the position spelling F# C# E A# and notice how it sounds most natural to resolve with a B minor, or B major chord
Marty Friedman and Chris Poland are the greatest Megadeth guitarists imo. The reason i put Chris Poland in there is because he has this unique jazzy and chaotic style that really made pre-Rust in Peace Megadeth so great in its own way.
i have to say that marty’s solo in lucretia and tornado of souls tie for me as the best metal solo i was completely blown away when i first heard lucretia it was like sex for my ears
While i have loved all the guitarists in Megadeth and always fall back to Marty as my overall favorite, I really cant believe you and everyone else left out Al Pitrelli (the guy that directly replaced Marty) in your list of guitarists. That 2000 Rude Awakening tour with Pitrelli and Jimmy DeGrasso on drums is still IMO one of the best sounding live versions of Megadeth ever.
He missed Kiko Loueriro as well, the guitarist who's currently in the band. I'm pretty sure he's been with them for at least a few years, he's definitely no slouch.
Rust in Peace is definitely Megadeths best album (Peace Sells a close second) - with a bunch of absolute killer songs, BUT, in my opinion Ashes In Your Mouth is Megadeths best song. The composition of the song and the soloing (particularly Marty's) for me was the epitome of what made Marty/Nick era Megadeth so very special
I always say that Poison Was the Cure is my favorite song but in reality, it’s definitely Ashes in your Mouth. That is a proper song. Also Rust in Peace is my response to everyone who says Metallica is better. “I guess, but Metallica doesn’t have a Rust in Peace”.
I’ve seen so many videos reviewing this solo and no one has ever put so much emphasis on the chords behind what’s being played and I appreciate that so much. Solos should never be gibberish “on key”. No, you need to understand the chord progression and Melodies. Amazing video bro, you got yourself a new subscriber.
OMG, I thought I'm the only one thinking of this solo and coming back to it for almost 30 years now. "Tornado" as well as "Hangar 18" solos are absolute masterpieces.
I’m going with Kiko. He can play every Megadeth’s guitar solos plus his own stuff is great. Will have to wait till he has more than 1 album. Also his solo work is amazing. I have seen Megadeth with Marty so don’t think I’m new to them. Also Kiko seems to be having more fun than any guitarist that’s been in Megadeth. He seems like a fan that got his dream job. Love Megadeth rhythms and solos. Truly great band. Saw a reaction channel that said “Metallica is a bunch of musicians that got together and made something great. Megadeth is just the best of the best.”
Scott, did you ever think about playing this song on the acoustic guitar? Those fragments you play are amazing. That's something genuine, you're a great guitarist, why not giving it a try? I'm coming back to this vid over and over again.
Marty, was definitely following the chords,I have watched two Instructional videos with Marty where he demonstrates that exact approach to solo’s, and the “trick” as a guitarist/composer is to create your own style, way, approach of how you navigate chords changes, Marty does it beautifully, he adds 2s to his minor arpeggios, or plays a minor arpeggio going up and resolves to the major arpeggio Am to C over a Aminor chord, and he also goes “outside” for just enough to as he puts it “ Grab the audience’s attention licks” over the E he plays a E 7#9 arpeggio, not just a E or a E7, adding the #9 gives a slight diminished sound, if he does play something scalar he usually sequences it, and not a predictable 3 note per string pattern, like most competent “metal” players would, and the way he bends is unique as well and another compositional “trick” Marty uses is if he does play outside/ get the audience attention lick he will usually follow it with a “familiar/ home base” bluesy lick.. and that is what makes Marty a superb, unique player. I was aware of him saw the Shrapnel ads in the guitar magazines for his Cacophony, albums with Jason Becker and just never checked them out, and forgot about him, until Rust In Peace came out and have been a HUGE fan ever since , the other personal favorite solo’s of mine that I like from the Rust in Peace album is “Lucretia “ Marty’s is great, still can hum the whole solo in my head right now thinking of it, and Dave’s solo on that song is great too, perfect contrast between two great players and different styles, check it out, Tornado is a classic and will be forever, but Lucretia deserves some love as well!!! P.S. all the great guitar players follow the chords Randy Rhoads, Mark Knopfler, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Satarani, Vai, Eric Johnson, just they each have Developed their own approach/style to doing that, I am working on my own style, my own approach, because I believe as great as someone is by playing other peoples stuff, the world doesn’t need a carbon copy of Marty,EVH,SRV they someone to be as original as they can be, and be themselves and develop their own style…
Yes. yes. Tornado is the best Megadeth (and probably metal) solo. But, do you even Dave shredding in phrygian dominant? I'm talking about last Wake Up Dead solo. I fall in love with that solo everytime.
Nobody can ever top Marty Friedman in a creative, melodic, phrasing, or textural context. He adds something amazing to every Megadeth song, and it never steps out of bounds of what the song is supposed to be. It always complements the song and pushes it to the next level. It's not like a lot of metal bands where the instrumentals are really weak but the solos are hot. I see alot of people commenting that the solo wouldn't be nearly as impressive without the chords under, but isn't that the whole point? Isn't that half of what makes Marty's playing really interesting and head turning in the first place? If he was just playing random blues licks and minor scales like Kirk Hammett nobody would care but he takes the chords and manipulates his note choice into something phenomenal. Long live Marty, King of Metal Phrasing!
I don’t understand “a lick” of music theory but I knooowww my damn Metal and this was damn interesting and the best thing I’ve seen in weeks . Subscribed
Though I like the tornado of SOLOS more than the ultimate holy wars solo… I still like Holy Wars more than Tornado of Souls as a whole and I personally think it’s the greatest Megadeth song. EDIT: Yes, I realize that I didn’t tap the tritone scale 666 times, does that mean the punishment is due?
@@paulpereira7113 you ARE correct sir...seems like kiko is just going thru the motions at times so to speak..I WILL SAY that his classical playing as well as his work outside of Megadeth is INCREDIBLE ..
I saw them at a small club in Clenn Burnie/Pasadena Maryland, the day after Ozzfest 1999. they played the song on 97.9FM every day for months. You could hear me whistling, as I was the only one in the crowd that could whistle apparently. It was pretty cool! Saw the man use the needle off Cryptic Writings.
I think you should have used a vid where matry plays the solo. I cannot find the right words for it but like how he specifically plays the solo and makes variaions of it to me reveals what makes it so great beyond just the choice of notes.
The bassist here is James LoMenzo, he was the bassist for White Lion. He left Megadeth on good terms when David Ellefson and Dave Mustaine made nice again but slipped back into the fold for touring after Ellefson was fired. The drummer is Shawn Drover, arguably the least favorite drummer that has been in Megadeth. He played competently but sounded flat in Megadeth. Great video and music education!
I have to say, in this album you can just pick any song, it is a masterpiece, I honestly can't tell which one I prefer, some are more technical, some are more creative, some are exceptionally groovy, Dave's solos are raw emotion and Marty is a melodic genius.
Been listening to Megadeth forever and I think Kiko may be the best. He is way underrated and I’ve heard some his solos in his previous band. Mind blowing, that’s why Dave got him.
I read that when Marty joined most parts where already done by Chris Poland, and Marty put his own twist to it. Either way Marty did an amazing job. My fav Megadeth album of all time and Marty my fav lead as well.
@@torcida9 Oh man, there are so many good solo's and I've been listening to Rock N Roll for a long time. Molly Hatchet - Flirtin With Disaster. I could list a whole bunch more but these Solo's have so much soul to me and are timeless.
Dude, you're good. When you're discussing the chorus in B Minor and you play it, it shows how you mastered playing on the hardwood. And then, "Goddammit Dave" - priceless.
But it's not the greatest Metal solo of all time. It is awesome, though. Alex Skolnick's Practice What You Preach and Return To Serenity solos are better in my opinion. And I like a lot of Kirk Hammett solos better. I don't give a fuck what people say about Kirk, he's amazing to me and has written many great and iconic solos. My Megadeth guitarists ranking. 1. Chris Poland 2. Marty Friedman 3. Kiko Louriero 4. Chris Broderick 5. Al Pitrelli 6. Glen Drover 7. Jeff Young 8. Kerry King 9. The dude that filled in for Chris Poland then went to the dessert to trip on LSD.
Marty couldn’t have showcased those talents if it wasn’t for the bullheaded professional that Dave has proved to be. It was meant to be. Marty and Dave should both embrace that nothing Kirk or James or anybody else has ever done it so smart. Tornado of Souls is the heavy metal equivalent of a precision guided smart bomb.
It's crazy. I never was a big Megadeth fan, but I remember this song really well, and I'm pretty sure that I haven't heard it since that time in the early nineties when I borrowed my friends CD of Rust in Peace. Some quality song writing there.

Watching this again. Remarks: - Marty's the best, hands down, but Kiko is one of the greats! - Dave's playing on this is also stellar!! - Dave Ellefson got kicked out again, for good this time, sadly... - Great video, you playing on a folk guitar to illustrate metal is an interesting choice.

This lick is basically an ostinato and underlying bass gives the new taste to ostinato each time
@11:04
Fantastic quote.
Love how you are demonstrating on an acoustic, keep up the dope work!
I believe Marty Friedman is the most iconic guitar player in Megadeth history! Won’t get in the discussion who’s the best because they are all so great! But I believe Marty is the one responsible for Megadeth has so many followers!
Not only megadeth,whole thrash history
jeff young too
Yes, but Kiko cool too and add to Megadeth some spices.
Definitely the best guitarist Megadeth ever had.
dave mustaine?
Marty can't be touched. Nothing conventional about the way he does things. Seen him play the solo live at one of his solo shows. It was incredible
Dont talk much bout the hiro josh, keep it low, please... Hahaha
His pop sensibilities?
Kiko added that Brazilian music present in Bossa. The best example is "Conquer or Die" from the Dystopia album. Best lead guitarrist to me, next one gotta be Poland, or Friedman idk
@@supernothing77yes. Marty is a big fan of pop, especially jpop so he knows how to make guitar melodies and licks that sound almost as if it's a singer singing. It's very obvious in a lot of his playing, especially nowadays if you follow his music at all in the modern era.
The Solo itself is a story has an intro, The Climax and a great ending. The solo tells you this is how a solo is constructed not just scales.
Kiko Loureiro and Marty Friedman are my favorite, both are GENIUS. Chris Poland is one of the most unique guitarists out there though. Great work man!
My personal favorite Megadeth guitarist is Chris Poland .. But Marty is right next to him for sure. He's awesome! Jeff Young is also a really good player ... after all, there's no bad guitarist played in Megadeth.
Ditto
Kiko is also up there for me
@@luukderuijter1332 for sure!
RIP rules
True, even Al Pitrelli was a very good guitar player that everyone forgets.
I remember as a teenager back in the 90’s, I’d rewind this on my cassette player and listen to the solo over and over. This was in a vacuum so to speak, with no one else to influence my opinion or listening. It’s awesome that this solo has been recognized by the world.
Really good work Shred. Metal music theory is the best music theory
True
That solo was a challenge to me. My guitar playing changed ( improved a lot) after I covered that amazing solo! Tip: If someone wanna learn that solo, please play it with feelings! BTW, I`ve never seen any bad guitarists playing for Megadeth, but Marty is just a legend!
Never a bad guitarist in Megadeth?
False.
Kerry King briefly was in the band.
He's horrendous.
I saw them in Houston December 0f 92 w suicidal tendencies.
Dave and Marty's solos were Amazing. Especially on tornado, and Holy wars
Kiko for me. Dudes one of the most versatile guitarists alive imo. Conquer or die
Conquer or Die is an acoustic masterpiece.
Yes. I love the work of Kiko in Angra!
Tell me Shred.
Tu ama pq tu é br
Playing this and lucretia solos is extremely satisfying. Martys creativity is something else. Especially how he put the lucretia solo together. There's plenty there that doesn't make sense but he made it make sense and sound insane
Marty Friedman
Thank You for all this amazing Information
And For the way its delivered
Top Quality Content
Lars Ulrich is my favorite Megadeth guitarist.
I thought he was the singer?
Kiko is also a great lead guitar player. He applies a lot of music theory which makes his solos interesting. I’d say it’s between Marty and Kiko in terms of musical ability.
Kiko is my favorite megadeth guitarist, (though i admire marty greatly and hes like the main reason i started listening to megadeth. ) something about kikos performance on conquer or die is just so unmatched.
I love Tornado but am I the only one that loves Dave's solo on Wake up dead just as much?
Wake up dead solo is amazing
Middle solo of devil's island is my fav from the album... just so much style.
I love Dave’s solo in Holy Wars it’s perfect for for the song. Even Marty’s solos in hangar18 are better than tos
I agree with all this. I think People just repeat that this the greatest solo....So therefore everyone repeats that. I agree this solo is cool, but not the best recorded by Megadeth
Lucria is my favorite solo
My personal favorite Megadeth guitarist is Kiko. I really love his style, and his skill is off the fucking charts
This analysis is fantastic and I am pleased I found this and your channel.
I love the insight of Theory through the song which is great for a meaner like me 😊
Thank you 🙏
This is obviously one of the best ever written, but one of my personal favorites is the Good Mourning solo. It serves as a wonderful work up into Black Friday.
Also, the verse uses minor inversions making it even more interesting
Kiko Loureiro is an awesome Megadeth guitarist, love his work so far
Marty indeed was is and will be the best megadeth lead guitarist 🤘🤘🤘
My favorite metal song of all time. Thanks for this!
I've always liked the original Megadeth line-up with Chris more than any of the others, and I really love Chris's style of playing.
If you've never heard it, check out his 1st solo cd Return To Metalopolis.
I love this song. It came out when I was a senior in high school so I kinda felt like it was made for me. My own. My precious.
I can't decide between Marty and Kiko. So far Marty has done the best work so far, but it may change, when they will release new album with Kiko
Captive honor has always been my most favorite guitar solos.
You’re a real one
Every Megadeth guitarist was so different in their own ways.
Marty was my fav era so I'm going with Marty. Plus I love his style and emotions I feel when listening to his music.
Always dug Marty’s style more, but there is something unique about Chris Poland’s playing, and Chris Broderick’s mastery is insane.
Edit: Kiko is great too
Amazing!! Absolutely loved this! Thank you for your amazing analysis on the greatness that is Megadeth!
I have always said this is my favorite solo of all time. It's just sooooooo good.
The way you explain all these metal music, it sounds your voice mixture is just too notch
i have to say that marty’s solo in lucretia and tornado of souls tie for me as the best metal solo i was completely blown away when i first heard lucretia it was like sex for my ears
Lucretia man 🤤 what an experience
Really good analysis on this Shred. More like this please.
One of my favourite solos too. I think ex-aequo with the solo on "Sodium Pentathol" by Anthrax.
Jeff Young is the one you're missing. Great player but definitely overshadowed by Marty and Chris.
He missed Kiko Loueriro as well, the guitarist who's currently in the band. I'm pretty sure he's been with them for at least a few years, he's definitely no slouch.
And Al Pitrelli
@Keith Nowak lol, sounds like someone who has never heard Dread and the Fugitive Mind
As a jazz musician, I really can relate to Chris Poland's playing, so I'm going with Chris Poland being Megadeth's best guitarist.
Friedman was the best solo guitarist in Megadeth, he wrote some really really nice music with the two Daves and Nick.
Kiko definitely, he is just amazing. He has good finger style too. I'd say Marty is number 2
Another great one is The Killing Road solo. Kind of like Tornado's evil twin, muahaha
Yea I prefer killing road better actually. One of my favorites
Favorite Megadeth guitarist: Chris Poland. His style was so unique and very few could replicate it.
He definitely was unique. His fingerings when he played were unlike anything I'd ever seen. Watch him in the Detroit '86 show.
I love his work on Good Mourning/Black Friday. Also, he's awesome on "The System Has Failed".
James is the King, Dave is the Emperor, Marty is the Prince and Kiko is the Great Duke
WELL PUT !!!!! 🤘🤘
Who the fuck is James
@@maxzapom James LoMenzo, Ellefson's replacement. He's been in the band before.
Marty, was definitely following the chords,I have watched two
Instructional videos with Marty where he demonstrates that exact approach to solo’s, and the “trick” as a guitarist/composer is to create your own style, way, approach of how you navigate chords changes, Marty does it beautifully, he adds 2s to his minor arpeggios, or plays a minor arpeggio going up and resolves to the major arpeggio Am to C over a Aminor chord, and he also goes “outside” for just enough to as he puts it “ Grab the audience’s attention licks” over the E he plays a E 7#9 arpeggio, not just a E or a E7, adding the #9 gives a slight diminished sound, if he does play something scalar he usually sequences it, and not a predictable 3 note per string pattern, like most competent “metal” players would, and the way he bends is unique as well and another compositional “trick” Marty uses is if he does play outside/ get the audience attention lick he will usually follow it with a “familiar/ home base” bluesy lick.. and that is what makes Marty a superb, unique player.
Dave sustaine is the best Megadeth guitarist.
I don’t understand “a lick” of music theory but I knooowww my damn Metal and this was damn interesting and the best thing I’ve seen in weeks . Subscribed
I think the solos from Hangar 18 are far for impressive. The phrasing and exotic scale combinations are peak guitar soloing
favorite is poland, but it's semantics whether friedman or poland is better. they are both, as are all megadeth guitarists, incredible musicians.
Tornado’s is great, but I always thought the first lucretia solo was his best.
There are so many gems in the Megadeth catalogue, but tornado is one that even people that aren't metal connoisseurs can appreciate.
Though I like the tornado of SOLOS more than the ultimate holy wars solo…
I still like Holy Wars more than Tornado of Souls as a whole and I personally think it’s the greatest Megadeth song.
EDIT: Yes, I realize that I didn’t tap the tritone scale 666 times, does that mean the punishment is due?
This dude mastered the art of laughing with no facial expressions 👍🏻. Great job 😂🤘🏻
Kiko is the best Megadeth guitarist... Marty is a strong 2nd/or tied, and the most iconic. I love his playing.
@Cameron tbf Marty was playing with megadeth at all of their creative peaks. Kiko is still killing it with a somewhat depleted Megadeth
@Cameron Kiko has no respect for the solos live. pretty irritating
THEY ARE BOTH equally MINDBLOWINGLY AMAZING ..DIFFERENT styles !!!
@@mikegallagher2732 I agree. I just would expect a guy of his caliber to put more effort into playing the solos better
Megadeth is an important band. Metallica got lost along the way, but Dave's vision kept Megadeth heavy.
Metallica just got more successful along the way
Metallica didn't get lost lol they showed versatility in not doing the same thing for 40 years.
@@bigbillhaywood1415 yep
They became boring.
Nice break down of my all time favorite!
Was going to unsub and report but I saw Rust in the thumbnail and all was well with the world
I read that when Marty joined most parts where already done by Chris Poland, and Marty put his own twist to it. Either way Marty did an amazing job. My fav Megadeth album of all time and Marty my fav lead as well.

@@torcida9 Oh man, there are so many good solo's and I've been listening to Rock N Roll for a long time. I'll pick three that stick with me 1) Kiss - Deuce (Ace Frehley)....superb for its time! , 2) Pantera - Floods & Cemetery Gates (I mean, Dimebag Darrell..need I say more, 2 for 1), 3.

2. Marty Friedman
3. Kiko Louriero
4. Chris Broderick
5. Al Pitrelli
6. Glen Drover
7. Jeff Young
8. Kerry King
9. The dude that filled in for Chris Poland then went to the dessert to trip on LSD.
Shred: "You're not gonna play a good solo unless you're playing to the chords."
Kerry King: "So more whammy bar? Got it."
Marty is definitely the most talented. Dave's writing chops are second to none though. He's a riffmaster.
His ability to write, play, and sing all at once is beyond belief.
Marty Friedman is a fine embroiderer of solos. He's sewing every note of every colour and texture and he makes a magic carpet.
It's crazy. I never was a big Megadeth fan, but I remember this song really well, and I'm pretty sure that I haven't heard it since that time in the early nineties when I borrowed my friends CD of Rust in Peace. Some quality song writing there.
Nice breakdown I thought you were going to focus on the solo but love the song it's my fav from them and everyone should be able to agree its one of the top 5 solos in metal but don't you think you should have watched Marty himself play it I know there is one either way great content as usual
This is one of my favorite solos but I also love the ones in Powerslave, Trapped in a Corner, and Floods.
Watching this again. Remarks:
- Marty's the best, hands down, but Kiko is one of the greats!
- Dave's playing on this is also stellar!!
- Dave Ellefson got kicked out again, for good this time, sadly...
- Great video, you playing on a folk guitar to illustrate metal is an interesting choice.
He was in Cacophony enough said.
Marty hands down. Most unique, most creative, most melodic, best fit over all.
