Nice video! I’m just curious, how often are freight trains there?

Thank you! Our 3ft 6in gauge freight trains are intermodal and we have 4 per day. A Pacific National and Aurizon arrival in the early morning, and a Pacific National and Aurizon departure later in the day, usually after noon. Times and scheduling can vary though. It is pretty sparse compared to other places in Queensland, you will get much more 3ft 6in gauge action further south.
But during cane season from June-December, we have 2ft gauge sugarcane trains that I suppose are technically freight trains. They operate 24/7 throughout the cane season, even working through public holidays and Christmas if they have to. They are only stopped by wet weather, due to cane fields becoming too wet for large mechanical harvesters to do their work because of a risk of getting bogged and ruining their fields. Mulgrave Mill is the closest mill to Cairns, located in Gordonvale, a 20 minute drive south of Cairns. They have just over 15 locomotives in service.
      I hope this helps!

@@thecairnsrailfan ok thx, so where would be the best place to see action in Queensland?

@@EBsRailfanProductions For sugarcane trains, the North for sure! From Mackay to Mossman are a variety of sugar mills with large and very active railways during the cane season. For our regular 3ft 6in gauge trains, Rockhampton and Brisbane are probably your best bet. They have lots of trains there! Rockhampton is very freight based, lots of freight out that way with lines heading west. Brisbane has lots of passenger trains in the city, and a few freight trains coming south from New South Wales and western coal trains coming in too.
