Great review, Peter. I just got the executive version of this, and I have to say that all points in the review are pretty valid. But I'm only 1,74 m tall, so the head room is not a problem for me, not even in the back seat. The boot is on the small side (about as big as a Golf hatch), but it's still able to take 2 airplane suitcases(with no more room for anything else). Also, it has a 10-year warranty from toyota (or 200000km), and the battery is guaranteed to have at least 70% capacity for 15 years(or 300000km)
@autogefuel Thanks on the good call. I assumed that in the Netherlands the solar panel isn't going to make a big difference but I still wonder about the ventilated seats. I got it in wind-chill pearl white. It was my favourite color for this car ... It reminds me of a stormtrooper helmet (which I thought looks really cool). The yellow looks a bit too ostentatious for me (like a car that has supercar looks and color but doesn't deliver on the actual experience)
A lots of buttons inside is fine but small pain in the a..ss design faults like piano plastic, chep feel interior plastic, savings on trim clips(that's why everything flex inside😕),rear light could be do as 2 separate light spots from top edge of roof like was done in pajero in 90'..interior looks like someone spend 38k on external shape design, powertrain, and then suddenly decided hold on boys we need interior as well! Then spend 2k on interior😕 sadly this approach could be seen in most of toyota models ravs, carry,Corolla etc minus LC sadly it looks like toyota like it that way..😕 it could be a great car if another 5k was spent on interior, sound proofing,etc..at this moment tou can hear every raindrop on the roof in city driving😕 don't feel like 40-50k product 😕 thx for great review and presentation 👍
It looks good Peter. EV's are not for me, but I don't mind Hybrids or Plug in hybrids because they both still have combustion engines. I would buy the new Prius in silver. Keep up the good work Peter.
Think the new Toyotas is cool. Toyota here in Norway don't sell the new Prius, C-HR or the Toyota Corolla Cross anymore. Wonder what they are thinking of. Not everyone wants a EV.
@autogefuel Not sure, but have not found any offical statement from Toyota about why. The new EV Urban Cruiser is comming this year, but the line of new Toyotas is getting thin. Have seen a facelift of the Corolla Cross in Asia, but not sure if we will get it.
Honestly the design choices- especially the rear door access , the lack of seat controls for passenger, no trip counter x2 , odd two tone seats , no rear wiper , even upside down would work I would take that over the solar roof that doesn’t hardly do anything in Northern Europe, the rake and roof is low for tall people , it shouldn’t have such a shallow rake it leads to a really far away front screen ‘front of car , scratchy plastics , soft touch rubber would have been better just 6 out of 10 , 2.0 engine is far far better , 1.8 version hardly different to older model and lacks go, eg sluggish ok for town driver only, honestly if for larger family the Corolla tour is better
You can live with lack of charging pad,low roof line even this plastic fantastic feel interior which is a toyota style from at least early 16' but practically like rear window waser, wiper ,tiny boot cargo space, and as usual non existent noise insulation is a factor which will be a problem here but fuel economy Houpfully will convince a potential buy, uber drivers 😉👍
@ nope first rule of taxi service is to cater for all passengers 2 ease of getting in, 3 cater for the disabled passengers- this fails the last 2 and due to low roof restricts wheelchair passengers and lack of cargo room to carry wheelchairs without dismounting . The Corolla sports touring hasn’t these problems
i asked toyota about this actually and they say that this car (and all prius before) has specifically been developed to be a hybrid. So there is no room in the chassis for more batterypacks to make this a viable EV
13kw battery? many new PHEV's on the market are now 19/20kw, giving a very respectable range. Toyota dropping the ball again, i guess they will rule the roost when Hydrogen becomes the norm..........ooooh theres a pink flying pig!
You don't ever need a pocket on driver seat. And that's not interesting whatever you said. In real world you don't go and seat behind yourself. It's kids putting stuff there and disturbing driver's back
im in the netherlands, we are tall.. any 15yearold here is taller than most adults elsewhere in the world. SO its certainly relevant to see if i can sit behind myself. Seatpockets are a no brainer, apart from cost savings, it makes no sense to not have those
I wish Toyota release it a pure BEV!

yeah the warranties on toyotas are great, thats a big factor for alot of buyers.
Good call on the executive version! which colour did you get it in?

The outside look is awesome! Well done Toyota. Inside though... well that's a different story. Very dated imho
thats a fair point actually, the outside and inside dont really match up

thanks!!
i think the plugin's are a very compelling package that offer almost the best of both worlds and SO much flexibility

really? not at all?
does that have to do with the government push to be full EV only in a few years you reckon?

yeah agreed, dont think thisll work as the full family car, its too compromised

Too bad they don't make a fully electric version of this one. Beautiful.
i asked toyota about this actually and they say that this car (and all prius before) has specifically been developed to be a hybrid. So there is no room in the chassis for more batterypacks to make this a viable EV

its also a cost saving measure of course, more battery costs more money

Awful just like the RAV4
Failure. Disgrace. Embarasment. Is new Prius proof that Toyota is dying?
