Yes I totally understand what you’re saying my parents got so annoyed with it too! It still is my favorite Christmas present of all time! I begged my mom in 1982 for it! Great review my friend!

I got this game for my 10th birthday in 1982. I used to play it for hours!

Got Galaxian for Xmas and it was the best gift I’d ever received. The sights and sounds felt were amazing and it was so loud. Eventually I’d get the Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man & Frogger which would end up being my favorite. Amazing tech at the time and I still have them to this day.

Wanted one of these badly as a kid but they were expensive. I finally got one yesterday, bought it a week ago on eBay, still works too. Yes the sound effects are irritating, but it’s still a cool piece of gaming history and the 8-year-old boy in me is very happy.

I had one of those which I got for Christmas in 1982, was a lot of fun playing it. I wouldn't have minded the sound if it had a volume control and it didn't have one and it was rather loud. I opened it up and disconnected the sound disc but it was a cool game to have.

My Pac had a sad story. Some time after getting it, I was at the kitchen table playing. My mom was on the phone. I kept lifting it to get her to tell me score. I couldn’t read large numbers yet. She would ignore me, so I would have to hold it longer and longer. You can imagine what eventually happened...I dropped it and it smashed on the kitchen floor. My parents refused to get me another one. I bought one used when I was 19 and still have it.

I got this myself as a gift (birthday, I think) back in the day. Pity the ghost monster sound on there had to make like a siren and the unit didn't have an already-built-in sound control. Despite all that, I've been a Pac-Man fan to this very day.

Your dad added a volume switch! Ha ha ha! When my kids were little, I "modified" their annoying electronic toys with a piece of gauze and packing tape over the speaker holes.

I always wanted one of these as a kid, but never did get one. A few years back, I found one at a toy show and bought it. I must have received a dozen offers for it as I carried it around the show for the rest of the day!

Willie man my thank you for almost making me cry, my best two Christmas years was 81', the year the coleco mini arcades released (I got Pac-Man on Christmas day,and galaxian on January 3rd my birthday a week later ,and 82 the year the Atari 5200 released and Pacman was number one reason ,I was gonna do one on this and you did it for me, this coleco mini is the reason I had to get the Numskull Quarter Arcades Pac-Man,I look at this and remember the Mr arcade commercials when he would shrink them arcade units down, and this is what we got,but to be honest the Numskull was what we imagined ,that being said thank you Willie for loving our childhood 80's years as much as I do great vid I post a few update vids on the numbskulls if you get a chance let me know what you think I'm just a novice but I hope you approve lol.

Love your pop’s non-destructive, concealed mute mod. Very considerate of him! I was watching thinking how you could do it without drilling any holes. Maybe with a magnet or moving a stick on power up. Then I was thinking where is the switch at on yours?! Nice one!

  • @5HlNOBI

I had this one and Donkey Kong back in the day. The lack of a volume control made it tough for my parents on those long car rides, and while trying to play the game in bed past my bed time. You could muffle the speaker with your leg a little, but this game is LOUD. It did the job back then, and the little cabinets are beautiful.

modding has been around for a long time, my grandfather back in the 30's built his own windmill generator to charge batteries to supply lights in the house before they had access to electrical lines. he used a generator from a model T ford in the windmill. Modding is nothing new :P Plus I had friends that had switches mounted on them as well back then.
