    Cool video, man! Woodridge is a cool area. I've done several videos out there myself. New sub! Keep at it, man! 👍

      Hey, man! Thanks for the sub. I returned the favor! I'll check out your video later today!

      @@JohnnyHaysOutdoors Thanks, man! Btw...... No shame in calling it. We all have to learn the hard way in the outdoor stuff. Looking forward to checking out some more of your videos. ✌️

      @@awayinthewilderness4319 I appreciate it! I just wanted to push myself on this last outing, and see what I could and couldn't get away with essentially. Anyways, stay tuned because there's a lot of stuff in the works, and A LOT more content coming!

    Your safety is the top priority! At this point you are surviving not quitting! Suggestion for your tarp. Make a ridge line with prussic knot loops. You can use small S hooks to connect the tarp to the ridge line and pull the tarp taught. Keep up the good work!

      I really appreciate this comment. It was difficult for me to pull the plug and and leave, but I knew I had no other choice. As for the tarp, I will definitely try that next time, and thank you for pointing that out!

    You made the right call, better to err on the side of caution. I had to bail from a hike last year, was supposed to be 32 and calm, somehow became 20 with snow and gusty wind.

    Glad you made it out safe. What is the temp rating on your underquilt and top quilt? For winter in MN, I love a tarp with doors.

      I wanted to try it without a top or bottom quilt because I was layered up really good. I fact, even when it was that cold, my entire body remained toasty warm. My feet however, did not

      Please don't risk your life like that! I like your videos too much. I'm using a superiorgear hammock, it's got the down insulation sewn in. It's like sleeping on a cloud, and you never have to adjust your underquilt.

      @@paulkhanna1 That means a lot to me. Thank you. I only did it to test myself, and to just see how it would go, honestly. With my videos, especially going forward, I want to be as authentic as I possibly can. If I make mistakes, so be it, if an adventure goes wrong, so be it, I don't want to just show my successes and good days out in the woods. I want to show that things do in fact go wrong and I won't shy away from that.

    Hey brother it’s not quitting is staying alive to enjoy many more outings right choice.
    And one little thing that may have helped is if you warm some rocks but not to a burning point and put them by you’re feet and have a few to alternate won’t be getting much sleep like that but better then freezing.

      I appreciate that. I had on 2 layers of wool socks, and some foot warmers, and usually that has always worked for me. This time, not so much and I couldn't wrap my head around why I was having such a hard time with it.

    What kind of coat is that?

    • @JohnnyHaysOutdoors
      @JohnnyHaysOutdoors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a Magellan Chimney Rock. Very warm jacket, and has an added insulated liner that you can remove if you get too hot. One of my most favorite jackets I own. I'll add a link for you. They have them on sale for only $40 right now. I have used this in sub zero temps, wearing only a t-shirt underneath, and I stayed plenty warm.

      Just finished watching... Dude, don't worry about making the right decision.. you know what your body can and can't handle. Part of the fun of these trips is learning to survive if we're ever in those situations... You learned something here and will be better prepared next time! I'm proud of you for trying I'm proud of you for making a hard decision that was probably best!
      When I was a teenager in the boy scouts I went on a winter camp out for a week and came very close to frostbite on my toes because all I had was tennis shoes.. my toes are extremely sensitive to cold... My daughter bought me some winter booties from Walmart or somewhere and anytime it's cold I go to bed with them on my feet and my feet stay warm through the night... The other night I was in -5 degree and my feet did fine until I got out of my sleeping bag to put on my boots and tear down camp .. by the time I made it back to the truck my toes were Frozen... Some people use battery powered socks haha. Whatever works
