Are Hairstylists actually Business Owners? 🤔 I'm sharing my thoughts (probably NOT what you think!)

Paul Mitchell the School does a good job of covering the business side, consulting, and customer service 👍👍

The state a person lives in, it’s the Cosmetology Board that tells us Educators what is required for the beauty schools where we teach. Most times the state guidelines is to prepare for licensure which is meant to be a foundation to grow upon. If people don’t like the curriculum at the school level get on your board of Cosmetology and be outspoken about the benefits of more up to date requirements to get licensed.

We rarely talked about business in school, and it is truly hard to find business info that can be relatable to our industry. ♥️ thank you for providing this!

Very true Jamie thank you so much I needed to hear this because I've been thinking a lot being a hairstylist myself and wanting to really grow my clientele in my new salon after moving from my old one and having clients through salon in the past . A handful of them had followed me so I'm very grateful to God. But I need new ones now and the kind i want sitting on my chair ❤

We did have a business class! Very thorough the teacher was a business teacher and we had to make a business plan etc but at the time having your own business and owning a shop is the last thing on your mind. Good thing I kept notes! This was at Fanshawe College in Ontario Canada

I agree on the non compete...they're YOUR clients not the salon's!! You're the one that's doing their hair!!!

Think I did it a little backwards compared to most. I worked in the corporate world for 34 years, retired and then went to cosmetology school. There were business discussions primarily driven by me, the owner of the school and the teachers. During these conversations, many of the students would ask very insightful questions. Don't be afraid to ask a question, it's the best way to learn!

great video! I agree we did not ever talk about business or pre booking clients. I have gotten interested in the education side of this industry because of all your amazing videos and teaching methods! what a great time to be a hairstylist :) xo

Do you think someone that is business savvy and knowledgeable in owning a business, but isn't a hair stylist, can own a success salon? I don't have a background in the beauty industry but I own different businesses. I've just got home from touring a salon business for sale and really want to invest in it. What are your thoughts? By the way, LOVE your videos!!!!

This is so true! I remember when someone first told me “my business”, it was actually a client! & when I heard her say that I was like hmmm 🤔 after she left I analyzed that comment & realized it was true! I’m responsible for my business. So so crazy!
