I remember when Coles used to be known as Coles New World, we were so obsessed with futurism back in the '80s. Alot of TV shows at the time promoted optimism for the future....now we watch these videos to relish the past
New World was to distinguish the supermarkets from the variety shops that Coles started with. Not long after that ad, the larger Coles variety stores were rebranded as Target and the rest closed down. After that, there was no longer the need to use New World to distinguish the supermarkets from the variety stores.
You are here to spread propaganda.DON'T BELIEVE THIS COMMENT! @@Dave_Sisson
And now because KMart has gained so much momentum alot of Target stores are being rebranded as KMart. @@Dave_Sisson
I remember the old playground joke ...
"Where do you go when the world blows up ?"
"Coles New World."
@@mrmojomajestic8317 YES!!!
Please take me back to the 80"s
Man i miss these prices 😆😢
Meat was certainly much cheaper back in the day.
I miss the times
Do you miss your paycheck?
@@JimmyHandtrixx bro even the most brain-dead twat knows prices increased far quicker than wages. And uni was literally free in the 80s and now a degree costs 50k+...
Very nostalgic, especially as a Canberran. 😊
Same! Especially the phone numbers lol
Yes! I loved seeing all the Canberra references 😊
The U.S and the U.K own about 50% of all Aussie businesses...
@@R0d_1984It’s actually the locations that they show that sparks nostalgia, whoever owns the business is neither here nor there.
As an American, I'm shocked by how similar these ads are to 1980s ads from the United States and Canada.
Asia also has western adds dubbed over. Just a multi national way of brands.
In the mid 1990s, I had a boyfriend from Northern Ireland who stayed in Canberra and after watching the TV for a few hours, he said our ads are what he would expect ads to be in the US. I think he meant the jingles and the hard sell.
Does anyone know why Paddywacks isn't answering their phone?? I need to go to the cane room.
I still have my Sunbeam deep fryer. It's not just for frying, either. Slow cooking, stews...whatever is your fancy and it's still going strong 😊
Those were the days
I love the fashions and hairstyles of the time 😊😊😊😊
Good to see old adverts with prices.
I remember Coles New World Stores and those sky blue uniforms the staff used to wear and there was no trading on Sundays and public holidays and no self serve checkouts.
Honestly I could just watch 80’s ads from supermarkets and marvel at the prices. Seeing the old packaging triggers so many memories!
The pope water sprinkler was something we used to run 🏃♀️ through on the front lawn during a hot summers night to cool down but can't somehow imagine the actual pope doing the same thing
M&Ms packet 50 times bigger than today!
such a variety of product
Wow, definately brings back memories. Thank you
Is that Steve eating M&Ms ?
The Crocodile Hunter himself? I thought the same thing! lol
Can I get 5 Speed overdive and A/C for $200 on the Bluebird ?? 🤣
Lamb $1.39kg? Crikey! That's practically giving it away
So is Paddywacks like Coppermart or something?! My late mom would've liked collecting those awful dolls....Maccas restaurants are so stale nowadays. That's probably the classiest M & M chocolate ad I've ever seen (I remember the brown/yellow bags) , sometimes they had raisins or peanuts as well. Can't beat old Coles New World either..
Some great moments here, thanks.
I so want to go to Paddywacks!
< $1.50 kg for lamb and affordable housing for everyone- paradise lost?
I remember the Eighties vividly and it certainly wasn't paradise. Australia is a much better country in 2023. Although I do concede the price of meat nowadays is criminal.
How much did people earn then? (Sorry, I was too little to know then)
@@bcgibson22not very much back then I used to work in a furniture and kitchen factory 40 hours a week and only got about 120 dollars a week I was about 18 years old love Anthony Fed ex lol
@@freeman10000it wasn't paradise but it was definitely more affordable for the common person to live...
Affordable housing for everyone is a myth. You still needed a decent salary, and stump up 30% deposit. And go and speak to the bank manager to plead for a mortgage. Part of the problem these days is finance is so easy to get, and everyone stretches themselves to borrow as much as they can, which pushes prices up
I would love to see what the sugar content of a macca's burger bun is now compared to the 80's.
So Paddywacks is where all the weird doodads and clown dolls at the op shops come from.
0:06 Nice to see Steve Irwin at the start of his career.
Man, instruments were expensive in the 80s
Cherry Lane ad also featured at 7:03
And everything (non-edible) we bought back then is now in landfill. But love some of these memories :)
What's your problem with landfill mate?
What no greyhound motors? maybe it's in the second part
Thanks for sharing, new sub here 😊
Couldn't make those cars any squarer if you tried
Brushes was the most lack of records in store
4:01 what does the kid say? Sounds like gibberish to me.
“For less than you think”
The food prices were so freaking cheap!.
We're Victoria add?
What did the world look like before the kardashian krew? This love...
popular products flogged on TV!
2:58 wtf
Do you still selling M& M's milk chocolate candies in Australia Mate?
Yep
Song at 7:06?
8:40 The original Ronald McDonald
Ill take a gibson les paul 800 off
Paddywhacks?
So this is what m&ms ads were like before they became woke. What's wrong with an ad like that?
too many well kept neat proper looking people...crossdressing, shaved heads or odd colored hair and nose rings are the norm for advertising nowadays...
Don't remember these ads at all. I think they were regional ads in Canberra. Thumbs down.
That’s just stupid.
9:15 This is an Atomic Bomb to Islam!
BLUEBIRD *CHACHACHA* TEN GRAND *CHACHACHA* Shits gonna be stuck in my head all day.
Air conditioning optional extra! I remember my first car lacked air-con. I called it the Little Red Oven.
