You are a legend Jack. Very well explained and I do wish a lot of piano teachers would climb into the 21st century and understand that a LOT of people are not interested in correct posture or hand position and just want to have some fun playing! I mainly play guitar but also keyboard although it is not my main instrument so I generally just make stuff up but it works for me but it has to be fun. If it's a chore then I don't go there.
Thanks Jack - this was really helpful. Plus thanks for the bonus tip regarding the sustain pedal - we were never sure whether we should put it on the floor or the table ... and now we know! :)
Great place to start as a guitarist, thank you Jack. I've always had a thing about sitting down to learn the keyboard (dunno why, I actually love piano based music!) but this has been easy enough. I'll have to make do on my 4 octave synth with a piano preset, but it's still fun!
"Extreme example" -- Brilliant! I play both instruments, and I have noticed other musicians trying to figure out what I do with my feet. I just can't hike my leg up like that anymore!
Really great... more of this kind of thing please... maybe even a little bit around what you do with your right hand for broken chords even when keeping the same position
Thinking of going on Keyboard from guitar due to some wrist soreness this December as a new project :). Sort of moving me though to try the acoustic guitar again
Jack, these piano lessons have opened up the world of piano to me. Thank you! One question: could you do a lesson on melodic playing and how to play more smoothly? Seems like my fingers get in the way of each other trying to play simple right-hand licks and melodies.
Heck..at synth head..dj like..you seen their video with kaoss pad in guitar...s...t was best fun thing ever..but thanks Jack..ya teaching us fun style🙌🙌😎🏆
I recenty decided to get a midi keyboars to make music with in FL Studio, I taught myself how to play guitar and I have decised to get the nektar lx49 keyboard, i see that you have a lx64. I feel like its a good choice.
This is something I want to dabble in, mainly because as a guitar player I want to add some keyboard/piano phrases to multitrack recordings. Can you (or anyone else reading this) recommend an entry level keyboard for doing this? I want it to sound decent without spending big bucks, if possible. Thanks for any responses.
Doing great Jack'n'team. Add a go-pro on your pedal feet? And perhaps a guitar looper (you don't need to explain a looper to guitar people)? Also, do a "What would Jacob Collier or Cory Henry do" (could be cord progressions - what keyboard to get what sound from - Cory Henry/Collier on a budget)?
@@domitian671- the piano has a linear keyboard with an easy octave pattern. The piano's complexity is in striking up to 10 notes at a time (occasionally even more). That is totally different. It seems to me two disparate worlds of those learning a couple chords to accompany singing versus classical players.
@@jpdj2715 Yes, the layout of a keyboard is certainly very different, but having a background in piano gives you enough of an understanding of theory that you can pick up on guitar faster than you would if guitar were your first instrument. Guitarists benefit from learning keys because it unlocks theoretical knowledge; the keyboard will teach you a lot about the fretboard, but the fretboard won't teach you much about the keyboard, so a special course for pianists learning guitar wouldn't being a huge benefit over an ordinary guitar course.
@@domitian671 ...your fingers significantly hurt more with guitar though and if you don't play piano for a month, there is no pain barrier when you recommence... ;)
I've tried to tune my keyboard but I can't find the tuning pegs & then I'm pretty sure the pedal that came with the keyboard is broken because every time I step on it I don't hear any over drive at all ... Maybe I'll try my trusty tube screamer
Can i ask a question, Why choose Sus2 instead of Maj? I dont know how to play guitar so i guess it has something to do with that. It just seems weird to me to use a relatively less used chord to enter keyboard.
It's a music theory issue. The idea is to find a chord structure that works with all the moving bass notes. Sus2 with no 3rd just has less conflicts with the bass line (G# and A being one of them).
@Andertons Synths, Keys and Tech or anybody -- Could you help me - sorry for obvious question... could you tell me the chord sequence played towards end of video (where jack plays guitar and keyboard) starts around @10.57... BTW - Great video, so simple but really helpful, esp the bit about how to use sustain pedal
mmm I have been playing guitar since 1980, I have never owned a tuner of any sort. If my strings are messed up, I find a reference note from any song I may know, and tune all the strings around that one tone by ear.
This is SO good - Jack, we appreciate how you bring us together and give us opportunities to stretch our musicianship in new directions!
Been playing guitar for over 20 years and never thought about keyboard in a way that made sense until today! With this video! Thanks and cheers!
Excellent. I recently decided to start playing piano after decades of guitar so this is very useful. Thanks
I was a guitar fighter, I am a keyboard warrior as well since a few months. It's so much fun !
Thanks Jack, keep on jammin' !

Nuno Cardoso spammer...
These videos also helps us in reverse as synth players.
More Jack tutorials about playing and maybe synthesis later on pls, he is a good teacher.
It's even better if you have a guy on guitar while you're playing piano. Lots of fun when your friends play instruments too.
Yeah I bet it's fun to have friends.

...absolutely superb Jack. Can't wait for episode 2 ;)
Thanks Jack! You’re a beautiful man!! for sharing the love with guitarists ❤️
These piano lessons are simply the best.
Really great... more of this kind of thing please... maybe even a little bit around what you do with your right hand for broken chords even when keeping the same position
Nice one Homes, you made that seem very straightforward. Keep it real frosty
Awesome videos... you make me fall off chair when you put sustain paddle on the table and pushed it too.... :)
Brilliant Jack - been waiting for this. More please!!!!

You should keep doing vids like this. Quite helpful. I dusted off the keyboard and put down the guitar.
what an awesome video , more pls
This was crazy helpful, thank you!
Love it! More of these please!
This was great. Good work sir.
brilliant keep em coming

Thank you. Working with keyboard triads and inversions now, which is pretty systematic (cool) for a guitarist… this really helped as well 👍🏽
More of these please
Epic video Jack, awesome
GREAT ! exactly what i was looking for!
Thank you brotha 💯
Jack is my new favorite TH-cam host.
Nice work, great video!
We're just pushin buttons :)

Love it!

Sorry for being a year and a half late. These keys videos are great! do you have any about playing scales without breaking your fingers?

guitar lesson for piano players plz
I was thinking the same. Hear, hear.
Once you understand piano, understanding guitar is easy. Piano to guitar doesn't really need a special course.

I was totally thinking how this was sounding like that "dodgy Aerosmith song" right before he said it. Great video!
Do I have to use the pedal on the desk, or can I put it on the floor? 🤔
On the desk.
66guidos thanks. Was just checking.

Mate thats a good video. no bullshit just good.
What about the fifths and thirds in the guitar chords you're walking up on the piano?
I cant play either, is there any hope for me?
There is always hope :)

I just sub'd because that was fun. I'm a producer (mainly guitar player) that plays keys badly. This might get me going:)
That's a good video. Ta
a year later i buy an arturia and find this bangers mate!

nice
Isn't G# the third of E?
What you're playing is a second inversion of E (B E G#), You know this.
Imagine his sense of humoru after a beer or two :D
Suddenly I could hear Hill street blues …? Btw. I got to get keys!
Did you just play a sappy piano version of "I don't want to miss a thing?"
Chears!
Don’t tell me he kills on guitar too!
