DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label may be the CAVE shmup I struggle with the most...but it's also the one I have the MOST fun with on the IGS PGM. Retro gaming is funny that way! But CAVE makes some of the best shmup games around and DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label is no different!

When it comes to arcade boards that really show off what 16 bit art can do everyone always thinks of the Neo Geo but did you know IGS had a VERY similar arcade board with the PolyGame Master? It's retrogaming goodness!
Up next : DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label! Its a hard as nails shmup from CAVE that in a lot of ways feels like the TATE sci-fi version of Progear on the CPS 2. Don't ask me why I think that...I just do! But if you are into shmups and have somehow never played DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label....play it today! Its hands down one of the best arcade games on the IGS PGM!

@@VideoGameEsoterica awesome I’ll have to see what’s already out, so much stuff on mister I haven’t ventured into that area. Any recommendations on anything similar that’s already on there? Always wanted to try my hand at really learning a good SHMUP there’s just too many to choose.
Couple new CAVE cores are up now. But CPS and CPS 2 on the arcade side are filled with awesome shmups. Try Progear if you want horizontal and Mars matrix if you want TATE
I produce dance music, I'm a bit fussy about what I like and it's pretty rare that I'm blown away by a game OST, but playing DoDonPachi III and this game genuinely put such a huge smile on my face

Sometimes playing for score is needed for a 1CC. Those extra lives can make all the difference! Great video!

I tend to marvel and smile when I’m playing the classics now rather than getting too stressed.
Although I can’t say the same for Mega Apocalypse on the c64, I get totally engrossed in that one along with frustration 🤣

Dodonpachi daioujou is hard as hell, dai fukkatsu is harder... and saidaioujou is like enjoying a burger made of screws and glass

My favorite dodonpachi game. Beautiful art direction, soundtrack, and patterns. I never did care for the bee collecting mechanic, so I mostly ignore it unless I run into them. Also hibachi is impossible to get through; I tend to skip to round 2.
Yes the art direction is awesome. Too bad looking at it will just end up with you dead
For whatever reason I never really tried to get into the CAVE side of bullet hells until very recently; actually just placed an order for a cartridge conversion of this game yesterday, perfect timing on the video!

Hi, if you're still interested in bullet hells, a quality indie company that has been around forever have been doing some amazing ports on PS4 and Switch. They just released this digital and physical that has tons of modes including a really in-depth training mode.

PS2 version is getting up there in price and it's a decent port.
What a strange world haha. Nothing CAVE is cheap these days. Ranges from expensive to “a couple mortgage payments worth”
@@VideoGameEsoterica Some of the Xbox ports are common. Deathsmiles and Akai Katana although Akai Katana used is slightly higher than retail these days
I bought Akai Katana for $10. I saw it for $70 used a few months ago at a store in Chicago. I wonder what the Deathsmiles special edition goes for? I’ve still got that in the collection

I bought an 8bitdo arcade stick for MiSTer and it really has made a ton of difference in how accurate games feel when playing, especially shmups and fighters. I'm already itching to build a custom one.
Yes you 100% need an arcade stick for arcade games...no question!

Definitely agree with needing an arcade stick for arcade games. The best thing is you don't have to spend that much money to get one. I bought a super cheap Mayflash stick which was great, plus it can be upgraded with different buttons and a different stick later on.
Yes most cheap sticks allow for swaps to Sanwa / Seimutsu parts. I do custom builds for myself so its even cheaper...find a cool enclosure, buy parts, drill holes, wire and play. But an arcade stick should be considered "Essential"

I make them old of old solid wood ornate cigar boxes LOL. Check my playlists...I did a build
Great video, spot on about playing these games in a way that you enjoy, thats whats cool about them, you can play just to push yourself and get further or if score chasing is your thing then play to chain ! Really cool to see others enjoying the PGM system and I just did a vid on my PGM collection !
Yes that’s what I like about them and want more people to realize; there’s a ton of different ways to approach them and have fun

I was never used to this game. It doesn’t even let you continue on the second loop unlike the other games.

Hi, have you ever tested the NeoGeo AES arcade stick? If yes, what do you think of it?
I own an AES. I modded mine with new parts though. Great stick made better with mods

Oh man I want this game so badly on my mister! I don't want to go through the hassle of buying another console (ps2) just for this game (and gradius V). I havent heard anything about anyone working on this PGM core yet though, so it'll be a long time probably
Aesthetically this is probably my favorite cave game next to Ketsui. Not a big fan of the later Cave games like Much pork and SDOJ, too much cringy anime waifus that make me feel like a weirdo playing lol!
PGM is going to be coming eventually. People have indicated “after I finish X I’ll work on PGM”
@@VideoGameEsoterica M2 announces yesterday that they will be porting DOJ as part of their ongoing Shottriggers series! So we will be getting the best version of this game (white + black label + more goodies knowing M2) on PS4!!!

Maybe you can clarify: Did DDP-DOJ originally come out on a different arcade board and was ported to the PGM, or is this the game's only arcade appearance?
it came out on a single PCB PGM board that was custom to CAVE then the rom was made to work on the standard PGM. SO its a bit of an odd "conversion" as its not a conversion really

the cart connectors are VERY fragile , so i got one motherboard for each cart 😈
same. I love them on the shelf...look so good
yes the right angled nature of the connector is prone to having issues no questions. Not a great design choice
