For a guy driving with a bomb he took the worst possible route. Some places with no road, drunk drivers, helicopters and other people shooting guns at you
@@VideoGameEsoterica In that episode, there was a bomb strapped to Horatio’s car. He parks it in a beach, gets out, puts his sunglasses on, then walks off as it explodes and says, “Burn, baby, burn”.
Thanks for great content. Love that you cover games like this. Have you ever played Round Up 5 - Super Delta Force? I discovered it in a local arcade recently. It's better than Hot Chase but it has a similar Chase H.Q. with jankiness vibe. Well worth a go.
The Shining got it's inspiration from an old film. The woman hiding and the man hacking through the door were in that old film. I posted a clip today of both on my Twitter. Edit: The Phantom Carriage (1921)
"Hot Chase was not particularly successful for Konami, and this is due in part to the host hardware falling short of the ambitious design brief. There's so much happening on screen - particularly in the later levels - that the action can become very jerky and certain sprites often seem to have a mind of their own. It's no surprise that in an age dominated by arcade conversions, Hot Chase wasn't converted to a single home gaming system." These words that I read about the game when I browsed through MAME back in the mid-2000s, somehow made ne think that it's a bad game and thus became curious about it. I really do like the premise of it, as it even suits for some story about you being exposed to some light that tells you the truth about your false master and you male the decision to defect, only for your former master's men being sent there trying to stop you, before you eventually cross the border into a much better and happier world that you'll be happy to live in.
I don't need to try to think of any other game that I want to love but it drives me crazy because you covered it right here. 'It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose.' Indeed, capt'n. Saturday was a bad day, Anthony, so I'm going to pretend that since I've been mentioning Hot Chase in your comments for years that somehow the universe aligned and we were on the same wavelength today, Anthony, and your Hot Chase video dropped when I needed a reprieve. I'll never forget the fun of playing this there in the lobby of the tiny theater in the town over. Then me and my friend Matt talking about the game for years after the cab and theater were long gone. I love Hot Chase...it is terribly unfair, but I love it nonetheless.
Thanks for tackling that game. I'm actually in touch with the designer (I recently interviewed him about Surprise Attack).
Ooh interesting. Bet that’s been fun
Doesn’t get much more 80s action movie than the ending, Arnie looking guy blowing up a Porsche 959 with an Uzi!!!
But yet it doesn’t blow up every crash lol

Maybe not the smartest dude around
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this. I loved Chase H.Q. though.
It’s a deep cut for sure
The way you explained it was hilarious. Loved this one and loved, Hot Chase.
Haha glad you enjoyed
I love how crashing your car isn't enough to set off the bomb. 😆
Haha nope. Worlds most stable car
I wish Hamster would release late 80s to mid 90s arcade racing games on switch, I miss Cisco Heat, Big Run...
The racing genre doesn’t seem to get any love on the rerelease front
Make Me Dynamic~ 2nd Stage Theme~
you chose the best song in the game to showcase.
I enjoy picking the music people will hear
Hard to believe this came years before Speed. Or that Halloween episode of CSI: Miami. They all have similar premises.
Haha never saw that CSI Miami

I’ll give it a shot
I like how they tried to find a justification for the timed checkpoints that all the arcade racing games of that era had.
Haha yes somehow the checkpoints add time to the bomb in the car?

Interesting. I’ll take a peek
So it's more like the Father Ted version of Speed?
Haha something like that
VGE: And here's a 1989 Konami 2.5D spritescaling racer...
Gravious: OH HAI
Haha the best kind of game

I can't get over the way the front wheels just jump across the road when you turn the wheel.
That’s how cars work in real life right? Haha
The handling in this was really quite awful in the arcade and yet it was still somehow lots of fun to play. Nice choice!
It’s def not perfect but there is still fun to be had

I’m always here to help brighten a day via janky arcade games!
Pop quiz, hotshot!
It’s panda!
An example of a modern game like this I think would be the ultra broken need for speed undercover console and pc ports
I haven’t played those in forever
If the road was just a bit wider, maybe it would work.
It’s a very weird road
Wasn't into this game as much as I remember VGE. Looked interesting. But there were too many others that kept me away for trying to enjoy it bro.
Yes this is maybe the worst example of this kind of game
This is one of those games i wanna like but i can't
It def fights you for the fun
Game I hate that I would love to love? Ez:
MegaMan X3
Haha I get that vibe
What's actually your most favourite arcade game?
Depends what day you ask
@@VideoGameEsoterica nowadays for an example
Today I’d say Invasion: The Abductors since I’ve been playing it a ton
@@VideoGameEsoterica nice
Those gameplay mechanics with the car is off putting from the start.
It’s an odd game for sure
This is a reason why some arcade games are called coins eaters. Visually it looks good, but gameplay is bad. I try it and do not find it fun.
It had all the parts to be fun. It just didn’t assemble them correctly

is this a joke?
The game? I don’t think that was Konami’s plan
