I feel like Miles acts less like a capacitor, and more like an energy converter. Sure, he stores up massive amounts of energy at once. But whenever he absorbs Nuform, he's not letting out Nuform immediately afterward. It's just straight bio-electricity. My belief is that Miles is capable of transforming energy sources inside of him into his own bio-electric currents, allowing him to semi-harmlessly release the energy in bursts. That would explain why Harlem remains unaffected from the distance they're at. While yes, he did release a giant amount of energy, the most equivalent thing to compare it to wouldn't be a nuclear warhead, but an electromagnetic pulse. Yes, but from a meta perspective, not seeing a physical body of a dead character indicates they may not actually be dead. Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions did a Troupe Talk on character death that explains that further.
Yes and no. Yes, that would have filtered some energy, but 1) that energy still needs somewhere to go; 2) it wouldn't have been enough energy removed to prevent him from overloading, meaning the explosion would still happen.
He could, but discharging into the ground results in a radiating difference of potential. I.e. The voltage between the left and right leg of everyone touching the ground would be very different resulting in the discharge also going through them. It would kill everyone standing up that didn't have both feet perfectly together perpendicular to the circumference of the outgoing wave of voltage. This happens if a powerline falls on the ground and is enough to kill if you are close enough. Discharging the amount of energy that it can be compared to a nuke would travel out for miles and murder millions.
@@kaiburrus3190 I mean, no. On top of what Chris said, he'd be vaporized instantly. Hell, him being alive long enough to talk is stretching it. The problem that he would have to prevent himself from overloading to even have a choice in anything, and that would entail that he'd have the ability to put one arm on the generator, put one arm on something that could actually handle that much voltage, then use himself as a glorified transfer wire. If he lost connection to either of them, for a split second (or more realistically to the game's setting/plot) if he can't/doesn't find something capable of taking that much electricity, he goes boom as soon as his body goes over it's limit, and with nothing limiting the generator, it wouldn't be far behind in it's explosion; assuming, of course, that his explosion doesn't set it's off.
It is a million lightning bolts at once. No grounding rod is conductive enough to avoid waste heat melting the rod before even a fraction of that energy is run through it.
Miles still had a substantial amount of energy within him after the "discharge", and so did the reactor. He only absorbed enough energy to prevent it from going critical. Therefore your calculations are way off since you don't seem to take any of this into account.
Also if the website is taking the nuclear fallout into consideration wouldn't the damage be way less significant? unless the blast still had the same properties as a nuclear bomb
Miles didn’t even release any nuclear radiation from the reactor. He absorbed the energy and did what he’s been doing, turning into bio electricity, so no damage would’ve been done to anyone
“If you’re wondering why the underground are one of the bad guy factions here, well they send their message out by blowing up reactors.” Cloud, Barret and Tifa: 😶😶😶😶
Well, I'm not electrian, but from my knowledge, that much electricity is basically a glorified EMP bomb, and since almost all of us use tech to survive and make our lives decent, there'd still be a lot of dead people, you just wouldn't have any of the building collapsing. And yes, Eva. Nuclear energy can be turned into electrical. That's the point of nuclear power plants. Split a few atoms, use the discharged energy and coolant to make more atoms split, use profit energy to power batteries on a massive scale, use wires to spread that power to power grids, profit.
@@deadersurvival4716 In a nuclear power plant the controlled reaction does release energy, but it is thermal energy used to heat water either directly or indirectly and create steam, which will rise and spin turbines thereby generating electricity.
@@iamtfred Correct, so the conversion is nuclear energy>thermal>kinetic>electrical. Thank you. I didn't know whether I should have gone into full detail.
Wouldn't Miles have an electrical discharge and knock out the grid, etc. as opposed to an energy discharge? What would cause the concussive wave in his case?
@@Ty-yt3lj lightning does, in fact, go horizontally sometimes. (it sometimes sparks between clouds). Given the ridiculous energies involved, lighting going sideways is not the most ridiculous thing here. This is still energy, just less dangerous than a nuclear bomb(though it would definitely produce an explosion because it would heat up the air around miles to a ridiculous extent as the electricity passed through it. Also, every citizen of new york not in an extremely well insulated space would be struck by lightning like 37 times and would be super dead)
I think it more likely that the fuel is somewhat self-sustaining, and thus “500 years of power for Harlem” is more literal, in that it can supply power to Harlem for 500 years before it runs out.
Common misconception. Watt is energy per second (for home appliances it is energy per hour). Here Matpat is assuming all that energy releasing for 500 years is released simotaniously .
@@dylan2.066 the amount of available power at a given second isn't necessarily the same as the total amount of power it could produce over its life time
Amazing theory, but one important note about the method: Miles Morales' bioelectricity allows him to store energy in the form of chemical, not nuclear energy. This means that an electric discharge of this energy wouldn't exactly have the same consequences as a nuclear fission explosion. This small difference could potentially lead to a widely different conclusion about what would realistically happen in such circumstances, couldn't it? :) Perhaps Harlem wasn't instantly vaporised
To address your clothes being invisible gripe, I believe Miles's invisibility functions by bending light around him. Comic Peter Parker clings to walls by manipulating bioelectricity as well, and that passes through clothing. Miles's electrical shocks and invisibility are just an extension of that power. If the field passes through, you must call it true.
@@ItsAndOddWorld I think the electricity powers would spread however you try to aim it. Air is naturally horrible at conduction. That’s why Miles’s electric attack only work at very close range. In the sky, there’s only air, so it would have to spread. That or I forgot how electricity works.
Thor, the virgin "god of thunder": faints when getting tazed Miles, the chad sparky spiderman: Can absorb 1'180'000 lightning bolts at a time and walks away just fine
Maybe Miles absorbed some of the energy by reactor just like he does previously. He dosen't always have to release the energy that he absorbes so it might be possible for him to store some of the reactor energy which in turn lessened the explosion.
My guess it's the remains of whatever made ancient builders escape to the end. I feel like before the wither had to be way bigger, how far 1 wither can go, that every desert temple in the world has a picture of it. Also the wither had to be so strong that it had to cause tsunami which drowned ocean temples. However, it is possible that those bones r dinosaurs, but it doesn't make sense when it comes to the nether. I thought about giant mobs (since we know that it's possible to summon a zombie giant) but zombies have never been found in the nether. I also thought about the end dragon, but there isn't any mentioning on ancient buildings like the wither. It really would make the most sense if withers were way bigger and there were multiple of em.
This is not true. It's stated in the presentation that one canister is enough to power harlem, and only one slot in front of the reactor where the nuform is inserted is shown (where the canister stays)
Objection: Miles isn't releasing an explosion, he's releasing an electrical discharge. I'm pretty sure he'd still knock out every piece of electronics in the city but other than pacemaker users or people on life support there shouldn't be that much damage
i was also thinking that. I know it's an insane amount of energy, but it's not nuclear. Like how if the energy was released as sound waves, the damage would be vastly different.
At those power levels, there's honestly little difference. It still results in a giant, rapidly expanding ball of superheated plasma. If anything, it might be worse than a nuke, because none of the damage is converted into ionising radiation, making the blast much more efficient at destroying infrastructure.

I am quite certain that the Tinkerer is dead for sure, as Miles said "You're not just gonna destroy Roxxon Plaza, you're gonna vaporize all of Harlem." The same should be said for the Tinkerer so yeah, she isn't just dead, but she's completely vaporized
@@powdereyes2210 I know right, but then, would he even survive that explosion in that case, and if he did, then wouldn't he probably just die from the fall???
But miles didn’t release a bomb, just an electrical discharge. Doesn’t that mean that the reach wouldn’t be as great? I know the energy would find the ground but from there, would t it dissipate much faster from there?
I'm seeing a lot of comments saying that Miles released the energy as bioelectricity, but that doesn't change the fact that he releases that insane amount of energy at once. Releasing that much energy, no matter what form, anywhere near NY would be catastrophic. Although, I am curious to know what that much electricity would do to the area
Well Miles didn't release a nuke on the city. Just the electrical equivalent of one, so there shouldn't be any radiation. Many people where probably baked alive though.
MATPAT! Ever since you started making videos, you never ruined my childhood, you created and recreated it to be better. I hope you keep making videos cause your the best!
Your assuming: 1. The energy he absorbs is still in the form of nuclear energy. 2. he absorbs all the energy. Nether of these assumptions are necessarily true. 1. Nuform is defiantly radioactive, however Spiderman's energy is stored biochemically, and released as burst of electricity. He absorbs the nuclear energy, transferring it to biochemical energy, then releasing it as a burst of lightning. (i.e. no concussive blast damage) 2. He also doesn't need to absorb all the energy, only enough to stop the nuclear reaction. He managed to absorb the energy before the reactor exploded, hence most of the energy in the nuform was not released.
Um, When the energy was discharged it wasn't an explosion, it was literally a "Discharge" of electricity. So you should rethink the implications of that. Would it cause a huge number of lightning strikes while also ionizing a good chunk of the local atmosphere or what? I mean the taller buildings would all be equipped with lightning rods and clouds themselves would help to disperse the discharge quite a bit right.
oh good. so instead of being nuked we get to be electrocuted by a million lightning bolts all at once. not to mention the EMP shockwave from all that discharge too. Even if you weren't struck by the lightning, all those lightning strikes would super heat the air around and produce deadly amounts of ozone in a split second. Lightning rods can only direct it , but the amount being directed would be well over what they could possibly handle. Worse case it would cause the very buildings to rupture as the power surges though the building to the ground.
@@ImieNazwiskoOK Yep it does, it's all around us even now. radio waves, microwaves, infrared, light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays - all forms of electromagnetic radiation.
He already made a video about pokemon electric types and why they suck. So he just needs to take what he learn there to figure out how Miles would do with electricity. But yeah I agree he did not make a good line up in terms of how he explained the discharge since it is electricity and he uses a bomb as the example for what would have happened
The camouflage for the whole body and clothes could be because his suit has some of his dna in it. Like hair or something similar to be sewn into his suit. I do also want to say that there are other comments before me that say the same thing. I didn’t see it before I posted it.
Well an electrical discharge would heat up the air to extreme temperatures, which in turn causes the air to expand in a fraction of a second, creating an explosion.
@@oscarwang7227 Yah but most of the energy would still be in electrical form and only some amount of it going to be converted into heat energy. Even if the air is heated up by 50000 farenhite it would still be equal to a thunderbolt
Maybe thats why matpat stated only 68% of the work that will be detonated. I think its the conversion loss to electrical discharge. As you know enough electrical discharge also creates an explosion. The lightning strikes that will be coming from miles will still be a powerful explosion thats enough to destroy the whole city.
My one question is this: what is the difference in electric and nuclear explosions? Because it looks like his is straight electricity. So would it be more like an EMP? Or less physical damage?
@@superslimanoniem4712 Eh....not quite. Electrical energy rapid dissipates when just discharged without a consistent power source. And lightning doesn't exactly have enough mass to generate that much of a kinetic shockwave as far I can find.

@@thenotsogoatedanimator777 Yeah, it probably wouldn't have the same properties. Electricity is not the same as an explosion

As ridiculous as some things in this game, the explosion didn't look like a nuclear blast, but like an electrical explosion, a discharge.
Now I want a theory where Matpat sees if turning nuclear energy into electrical that way is possible, and what the effect would be
Well, I'm not electrian, but from my knowledge, that much electricity is basically a glorified EMP bomb, and since almost all of us use tech to survive and make our lives decent, there'd still be a lot of dead people, you just wouldn't have any of the building collapsing.

How does he see if light goes around him? Video game logic...

Simply say, he created an emp charge, and not a nuclear explosion.
There was no mushroom cloud so there wasn't super heating of the air

At those power levels, there's honestly little difference. It still results in a giant, rapidly expanding ball of superheated plasma. Your assuming:
(i.e. no concussive blast damage)
2. He also doesn't need to absorb all the energy, only enough to stop the nuclear reaction. He managed to absorb the energy before the reactor exploded, hence most of the energy in the nuform was not released.

COD zombies theory would be perfect, they just wrapped up everything before Cold War but it’s very confusing
You are kinda right. But there would still be shockwave.
Search up "Z machine".
oh good. so instead of being nuked we get to be electrocuted by a million lightning bolts all at once. not to mention the EMP shockwave from all that discharge too.
And it would propably also create radiation
@@ImieNazwiskoOK Yep it does, it's all around us even now. radio waves, microwaves, infrared, light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays - all forms of electromagnetic radiation.
He already made a video about pokemon electric types and why they suck. So he just needs to take what he learn there to figure out how Miles would do with electricity. But yeah I agree he did not make a good line up in terms of how he explained the discharge since it is electricity and he uses a bomb as the example for what would have happened
Its clear that miles can direct and focus the direction of his venom so he if he directed the blast upward it would have prevented lots of damage
