    Again numbers just don’t do this car justice. I have a 2016 BRZ limited. Last car was an 06 GTO (400hp) and yes undoubtedly the gto was more fun in a straight line. That just doesn’t tell the whole story folks. The GTO was heavy as shit compared to this light nimble car. The BRZ to me is all about the intangibles. I have never driven a car with such great steering, extremely planted feel, perfect driver position that makes you feel like you’re in a race car, the shifter, balance, I mean it’s just an awesome car when you actually drive one rather than look at numbers. Fuck numbers. We buy sports cars for the feeling that they give us yes? Or are you buying a sports car for other people? This car is for you, the driver. It’s specialty is carving corners like a little gem. Going full throttle in turns feels like you’re getting away with something really special and this is one of the best cars at doing so.

    I just love when they don't use the same tires on all cars tested.

      Somerandom18 tbf, the increased rolling resistance of those sticky cup 2s would make this thing somehow even slower in the long straights

    It's the tires! Those Primacy HP's are only good for drifting

      Really makes me curious if they would have done a lap with sticker tires but o well.

    Why couldn't Toyobru have used a 225/45/17 tire? To me, the extra 20mm per axle would have helped with mechanical grip plus the 225 still fits a 7" wheel as is on my gti.

    BRZ with sticky tires like the Direzza or RE71 is really the only performance mod you need for this car

    I don't understand why Subaru doesn't add much sticker tires for the performance pack. I makes a lot of sense if someone is going to opt to buy this package.

    Is he changing gears mid-corner at 1:53? He downshifts to 3rd at 1:49 and then to 2nd in the middle of the corner it seems... Would this be optimal?

    Needs a better engine. Not a turbocharged one, but a better updated 4 cyl both inline or flat for more power and still maintaining that balance in terms of weight transfer and responsive power band

    still scratching my head how this car is 5s off of the Si. I get FR cars are more fun and all, but this has the same power as the civic, and FR supposed to help with lap time.

      Kien Nguyen honda engineering done right... Remember type r beats most cars on the track like 2002 pagani zonda and 2009 audi r8 v10 one sec. Slower them Lamborghini murcielago 2009 thats says a lot

    • @abtinkhayatian6488
      @abtinkhayatian6488 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would guess the main reason for being slower than the SI is the lack of low end torque to pull it out of corners

      Its tires 100%, I own an frs and can tell you those primacy hp are slidy fucks, were put on the car to make it more tail happy, I swapped those to firehawk indy 500 and its much better, would like to try some 200 treadwear tires like re71r tho.

    • @yuriabmxr
      @yuriabmxr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try the Hankook RS4's Almost all the stick of the RE71 but will last more than 15 minutes on an open track. I dropped 8 seconds a lap at Sebring when going from the Indy 500's to the RS4s. They also wear nicely and are not expensive.

  • @farhan007

    Why do they even bother doing lap times with low rolling ressistence tires?

  • @yuriabmxr
    @yuriabmxr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I continue to believe the biggest problem with car magazines tests is that they run track comparisons with whatever tires come on the car. They should run control tires, or at least tires with the same UTQG. No one should run track tires on the street, nor vice versa. It's just apples and oranges and creates a lot of truly useless data.

    50-100 more HP would go a long way into this car.

    • @gaivoron
      @gaivoron 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GlassTopRX7 I would say 50 more torque and 30 more hp.

    • @GlassTopRX7
      @GlassTopRX7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      More torque would make it feel better on the street, less need for shifting but it's the lack of HP that's keeps it from living up the chassis potential.

    Such a bummer that they never gave this thing any power down low in the rpm band. Not even necessarily calling for a turbo but just a better engine. Sad

    • @KTH96
      @KTH96 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankfully, the 2nd gen engine has much improved torque in the low to midrange. 184 ft-lbs of torque at 3800rpm and it looks like they finally killed off the massive torque dip.

    The recipe for designing a last place sport's car and keeping it that way for years was consistently the approach of Subaru/Toyota. This car gets utterly blown away by everything all the time (including FWD Honda Civics) and they say buyers should be proud of this. Here is greatness realized again. So proud of always being last place - said no one ever.

      Jesus H Medrano if you choose an Si over the BRZ/86, you’re not an enthusiast.

    • @Stormtrooper-oc4vn
      @Stormtrooper-oc4vn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brett Larson no hes an enthusiast alright... For me its the price brz are 30000 grand new when si is only 25000

    • @brettlarson912
      @brettlarson912 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The base model BRZ starts at 26k, so the price out the door wouldn't be much more than the Si. My BRZ was 31k cause I opted for the Limited w/ Performance Package, but the base models aren't much more than an Si. The Si can't even be compared to the BRZ. It's heavy, body rolling commuter with a bump in power, that's about it. I will say I like the shift feel in the Si, but it's not an enthusiasts car.

    • @Stormtrooper-oc4vn
      @Stormtrooper-oc4vn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brett Larson its really slow for 26k 0 unless its a manual the autos are 0 to 60 in 7.7 secs thats as fast as my coupe civic 2017 manual which was only 20000 but the si was made by enthusiasts check out when honda talks about it by the engineers also its been the staple car for the street racing scene ill admit the 9th gen si really wasnt but this gen they came back to our taste

    • @brettlarson912
      @brettlarson912 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you got a 17 civic Si for 20k, then it was used. You can find a used BRZ for 20k or less if we're transitioning to discussing used cars as opposed to new. It's not straightline fast, no. But it never claimed to be. Driving a BRZ is exciting even though it's slow. The Si feels like any other civic with more power, it doesn't feel like a sports car because it isn't. It's a slightly sportier commuter car. I had a 2017 Civic Si for 2 years, so I'm not bashing the car itself. But if we are talking about enthusiast cars/sports cars, the Si can't truly be compared to the BRZ. Totally different driving experiences.

    The only thing performance about this car is its presumed ability to empty wallets of buyers, I assume.
