- Haptic technology recreates the sensation of touch through forces and vibrations. In this clip from the 2014 CHRISTMAS LECTURES "Sparks will fly: How to hack your home", Danielle George and a young audience member experiment with haptic technology. This piece of kit recreates the feeling of touch by using tiny speakers to create precise ultrasonic vibrations and mould the shape of an object.

Does anyone have a link to the build / research paper(s) if any related to this device?
They couldn't let go of him the whole time? And they had to give him the two shape options? I want to see MAGIC.
Thank you and all those involved in the content, efforts and production of this channel.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all.
May the new year bring you, your families and friends much health, wealth, happiness, safety, security, appreciation, respect and peace.
Mark working on this for metaverse
Goodbye insects/bats and everything else with ultrasonic hearing.
Bee's are already out, whats next? 10bucks on the butterfly!1
I bet 20 on dogs
So, what are the best companies that make Haptic feedback as of now ? If you don't know, can you provide a website with a list ?
If they knew a link to a website that had a list then they would just know the list. But you're much better off just googling questions like this by yourself you'll get a much better faster answer
HaptX?
Can this be put into glass. How far has this technology come. How can i learn more.
What were we hearing then, if the vibrations were ultrasonic?
it was ultrasonic interference on the mic.
Raphael Beer yes, but they probably couldn't be bothered ...
The noise the ultrasonic speakers are making. Microphones aren't limited like our hearing, so had I been on the audio-desk, I would would have muted the 2 personal mics until the ultrasonic device was off.
Nice
There are far better demonstrations and explanations of this tech if you do a video search for ultrasonic array haptics.
A cone or a square?
Given that a square is a two dimensional object, how would this be modelled?
I take it she means a cone or a cube.
It looked like a square to me, with a faded cone above it and in the background.
Love this
What is name of the box
I think I saw the sun flicker a bit when the device was activated!
The folks who built the pyramids _(not the Egyptians; they found the pyramids)_ knew of this "type" of technology and used it levitate massive blocks of granite etc etc
And yes they had wires like we do today etc etc
The funny thing is that they were still more advanced than we are today.
Which source did you read to provide this information
❤it🎉victory 🎉😮😊
Ps5 brought me here
I wondered why they called the contoller duelshock so one thing led to the other and here i am...
Me too
Her manner of speaking makes me think of how folks typically talk to those of low or questionable ability to comprehend what's being said.
Sagan was the Gallileo of His time.
You are not supposed to put your hands in an ultrasonic jeweler cleaner when it's on as some hours later the finger joints can become very painful. I'd be concerned with prolonged exposure from this type of interface.
that is so , i placed hand fingers against sub bass driver cone with sine waves 20Hz 25Hz even few infersonic for few minutes and result was strange feeling in hand fingers , took some minutes for affect ware off sort of white finger effect
Wow i never know this exist before not a slightest idea😂
Wonder if he can guess the shape of my fart.
Can we just merge this technology with holograms already.
they are
So utterly underwhelming. Edit: "We can't hear them but he can see them." she says, after we clearly heard the demonstration and were told it'll make noise so they can't speak. What a crock of shite. I wonder how many billions of tax payers money went into this stupidity? I'm all for diversion of more funding to science and R&D, but these pie in the sky things are ridiculous. Like the tens of thousands of Portal (the video game) turrets being churned out with grant money by masters students in robotics that are so utterly crap in quality they're laughable.
👍
Waiting for ps5
?
Looks like my dog can't use it then.
I WANT TO PLAY WITH ONE
Here is a scientific demonstration for you: Please pick between just two drastically different shapes. You won that 50/50 chance? Well then, we practically have to accept our success...
SilentProgram that was their goal, once I saw "choose between two" they already remove nearly all possibility of going wrong, does it or not change size when you move your hand up or down
Would have been more useful with 4-5 shapes
Not to mention a square isn't even a 3d object
It's not supposed to be a magic trick.. It's sharing how it works.
This is not a scientific experiment, it's just a demonstration.
But what are they demonstrating? They are telling you how it is supposed to work, but all they do is place the hand of a shy student above some speakers and make him guess a 50/50 chance. If you want to demonstrate how it works a description would have been nice. How does the 'object' feel, how is it like to hold your hand above the speakers?
This probably isn't faked but by the great lord harry it looks fake.
Wow. But these ultrasonic vibrations may be harmful, isn't it?
верёвкин благородный dude, it's just sound. It's not harmful.
What is sound? Try to figure it out.
верёвкин благородный sounds are vibrations that travel through air (or other materials). In this case they are using sounds that are outside the human hearing range. The only way I can imagine sounds being harmful is if they are loud enough, either by causing hearing damage or if extremely loud they become basically a shockwave (ex: if you stood near a rocket during takeoff, just the sound could kill you).
Sound is air pressure waves. So we can say it's just air moving. It's only dangerous when it's so loud that ruptures your internal organs.
now try to think:
what is air, pressure, and how it all can be waves;
what is it when we say that air's moving: what moving;
what is loud and not loud;
how it can influence internal organs;
what is vibration.
This is silly
Satanic
