    Wow! What a wonderful achievement! Wow! I just hope it still holds its tune okay, even when you've had it a couple of years. Wow! Wonderful! Only a guitar tech would attempt something like this congratulations! God bless. Hopefully I'll check out more videos

      Thanks! During the making of this video I had experience making a previous guitar so all mistakes were on the first one, definitely wouldn't have done it without the practice first. Still holds tune aswell which I was worried about!

    Hey, man. Thanks for posting this. I'm wanting to do a conversion but I'm scared I will just mess it all up. I know Woody and others will do 'em, but I can't afford that option right now. You making a video showing it done REALLY helps.

      No problem! I did it because i'm tight lol. Just remember to plan ahead and measure three times and cut once!

    Nice!
    I also own a BMG Special (and currently in the process of gathering materials to build a replica myself from the ground up ... which won't be a youtube video or blog), but I don’t understand why the this guitar isn't a bit closer to the original. How difficult would it be to make the pickguard and the spacing of components, like the switches and pickups, more accurately match the original design (ignoring the different tremolo system)? Brian May personally signs many of these guitars, so he must be aware of the differences 🙂

    • @CollumPlz
      @CollumPlz  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@alexanderpino3379 I think it’s because it’s a budget guitar and many of the features of the original would be too costly to replicate at a mass production scale, the BMG Super however is a lot closer but is way out of my price range and only a limited supply with a huge waiting list.

      Thanks! I’m using Amplitube 5 surprisingly with the stock BMG tri sonic pickups. I may upgrade the pickups to something closer and also the audio interface as my one is lacking punch :)

    • @Shred_The_Weapon
      @Shred_The_Weapon ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody should want to play just like him. Brian himself wouldn’t want it, even if he is flattered by the number of people that are going at it. For my part, if I did minor buying a red special, there are many things I would want different about it. I like the way the pickups sound for the moment, only I would probably want to get rid of the scratch plate at some point. I also would think of replacing the pickups with P 90s in the future if I could modify the their cavities.

    Hi. Does this bigsby-like tremolo make any difference in terms of playing? I ask bc Brian May Guitars could have use a Les Paul bridge with rollers and a bigsby type tailpiece for a similar price

    • @mauriciovargas3782
      @mauriciovargas3782 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, some guitars have floyd rose bridge, but I have never seen any mainstream brand use this type of tremolo

    • @Cllxm18
      @Cllxm18 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think this style of trem Brian uses is amazing I have the wilkisons since I don’t have a conversion yet

    • @CollumPlz
      @CollumPlz  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sorry for late reply! Brian May's trem is incredibly unique and is nothing like any other trem back in the 60s when he built it. Its a floating bridge, balanced on a knife edge with custom rollers to promote sustain.
      The trem is a big part of the Red Special design, which is why BMG uses a Wilkinson bridge.

      @@CollumPlz amazing job! my question was more about the industrial scalability. I was talking to my neighbours that make aluminum and other metal pieces for NASA and other big customers. They can make 500 or more with a precision of +- 0.0005 mm but they say that building one is incredibly inconvenient because up to the first one hundred units the fixed cost is really high and you must produce in volume, because it is a simple piece but you need around 500 units to produce them at 40 CAD (30 USD)

  • @loukey6053

    what did you do with the back side of the guitar? where the original wilkinson trem springs are, is it just open?

    • @CollumPlz
      @CollumPlz  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would like to fill it in but I'm not good at creating perfectly sized cavity blocks so instead I have kept the black plastic trem cover attached :)
