- Building an Iulr Cruising dinghy. Planking the hull on this beautiful clinker dinghy designed by Francois Vivier. The boat is a designed around the traditional working boats of France. I'm using the kit version to build the boat with parts cut using CNC computer cutting. This is the second part of my journey building a beautiful Ilua cruising dinghy. Now part of the way through the planking process.
this is the first video in my series about the build • Building an Ilur cruis...

The start of this video was about 6 weeks into the build. I've been working about 25 hours a week on the boat.
Conditions for building have been somewhat challenging, with temperatures rarely getting over single digits with lots of freezing foggy days and night time temperatures sometimes well below zero , so gluing has sometimes been a little tricky. But by watching the forecast and using heaters when necessary progress has been continuing. I warm the epoxy before use in a bucket with hot water so it flows well. You'll notice that I wear a full face mask when gluing. Having used epoxy over quite a period of time I've learnt that for me its necessary to be careful and avoid contact with it as much as possible. Probably the most entertaining moment was getting in after a spell gluing in the shed and finding that my beanie was glued to my ear with epoxy!
It is such fun to do this, plank by plank…. Good work! And then tea!
Thanks Kemp. Yes, I enjoyed that part of the build for sure. You did a lovely job of yours. She looks amazing. thanks for posting some videos. Interested to know... Did you make the yard and the boom hollow or solid?
