Poatan is becoming the modern day Anderson Silva. Not in terms of the level and breadth of skill and dynamics/variety/creativity, but in terms of being the most feared striker in the UFC, who's basically guaranteed to finish and finish brutally. Anderson Silva was SCARY. He was dominant. He was lethal, with the ability to KO at any given point in the fight. And Poatan has earned the same type of reputation and he is an unwavering competitor. Adesanya was thought to be the next striker who would be the spiritual successor to Silva, but he lost his finishing instinct and became a "play it safe" fighter after he became champion. Alex always seeks to finish, and has succeeded with the only exception being Adedanya 2 and Jan. I really think he's the closest thing to Anderson Silva we've seen since he's been gone.

The last quarter of the video is my favorite aspect of Poaton. He actually fights! In a day and age when top athletes retire for minimum of 18 months between fights, this REAL champion fights.
This fight went nothing like Chael predicted… he said Alex would win every round but Rountree would just need to find that single moment to knock him out, and he said he would. Instead, Rountree came out swinging and won every round until he gassed out and Alex went beast mode.
At this point, let him do whatever he wants. He's the king of the UFC. Watching him knock out a heavyweight would be more impressive than anything else at the moment. I already don't see anybody beating him in LHW.
Kickboxers saved the sport and made it exciting. Let’s not forget that Israel Adesanya was active for 3 years and faced the most dangerous opponents in the MW division. Glory fighters are just built differently
Sean Strickland played it safe. He became friends with the guy who beat him. I’ve been fighting all my life in the streets,I can only become friends with the guy who beat me if I beat him back
I could really care less about Izzy, but his win over Pereira is truly aging better and better. Izzy gets smoked at 205 pounds against him but the win at 85 can’t be taken away from him especially when Alex hints at possibly going back down to 85.
Alex isn't dynamic? What are you smoking Chael? The guy throws combinations, uses the muay thai clinche, he basically made calf kicks meta, he throws flying kicks, teeps, etc. The guy is extremely dynamic.
I 100% agree you can't say John is the greatest for multiple reasons but Alex is on a different level. The man is trying to fight 3-4 times a year and taking on the best people. I'm a GSP fan and think he's the best ever but Alex is pushing that
Alex is the total package from an appeal standpoint. He is honorable, scary, fights a pleasing style, and will fight absolutely anybody at any weight class, no questions asked. He is my favorite fighter, and brings the credibility to the business guys like Jones, McGregor, O'Malley, Adesanya, Cejudi, whoever, lacks. And he doesn't come off like a gimmick like Jiri, even. He is like a Brazilian Don Frye, and we should enjoy the ride, because he is also not a young man in fighting years.
After last night, I wouldn't bet against Alex at any weight. I guess Tom has the best chance and I wouldn't count out JJ, but I don't think I'd BET against him!
I think he's more compromised to get knocked out at 185, because of the weight cut. But staying at 205 or going to heavyweight , I agree is his best course.
Damn uncle Sonnen, I would've thought someone like you would take full control of the first minute of their video and not have a full on ad before content
Uncle chael you cannot dictate 'Poatan', you are not the one calling the shot, also does Ankalaev. Alex is the champion and superstar right now, he's calling the shot, he can do whatever he like.
Ankalaeve has an average of 1 takedown and a 31% takedown accuracy he is not a wrestler and the only submission he has is a LOSS. I do not get fans saying its the grappling/wrestling that gets him over especially, with those stats
It’s fascinated to hear how neither Chael nor mma fans in general get what they are seeing with Alex. First, Alex is NOT a great striker. Not even close. If you were to put Pereira in a boxing ring with a world class cruiserweight - his chin jutting out unprotected and hands at chest level and zero defence - he would get smoked in seconds (lest we forget how he DID get starched by Izzy when attacking/leaving himself wide open). Second, the only reason mma fans believe that Potan is some sort of striking god is that mma striking has traditionally been DIRE - hence he represents at least a step up from the very low level seen to date. But it’s still a low bar. Indeed, it’s why elite level wrestlers were able to spin that old erroneous ‘wrestling is the base of mma’ trope for so long - as you had very high level wrestlers/ju jutsu competing v VERY low level strikers. Yet once the level of striker improves - think Whittaker, Wonderboy, Potan, Max, Sean, Jan - then wrestlers will always struggle to take them down/ survive. Indeed, be in no doubt if elite boxers like a Canelo, Dubois, Usyk, Tank Davis were to properly transition - as all individual combat athletes must do when going to mma - then the level of striking (stand up has long been every fan and Dana’s style of choice) would just go through the roof/wrestling would be further exposed as a second-rate fight discipline - and the old one on every fight starting on feet would be realised. Hence sorry Chael my old mucker - - another wrestler who long dissed boxing having never fought an elite boxer/having never understood it. Yet your chosen discipline is a dying one in the octagon - strikers like Max, Sean, Tom, Potan, Izzy, Topuria, Jan and so many more showing even today’s moderately improved strikers now have the number on those ground specialists in the majority many divisions. Lastly, nobody will be more happy on that than White himself - a guy who now openly hates on anybody going to the ground/threatens guys who wont stand/trade with expulsion from the UFC. Yep, that’s all the good but NOT great Potan has been showing us about the evolution of an mma once considered a vehicle for the wonders of wrestling/ju jitsu but NOW more a place where everybody just wants the ref to…. ‘Stand em up’
I think the blueprint for beating this guy has to include elite wrestling and ground pounding with good cardio. Unless you get lucky and catch him standing up with a shot like Adesania has done.
When it comes to facing other strikers & brawlers.. sure… but Alex barely - rarely fights wrestlers or bjj opponents. Hard to judge him as an overall mma fighter just yet.
Aside from Ankalaev there aren't really any at LHW and he's not even much of a wrestler himself. Jones is the only real credentialed wrestler you'd have any kind of chance at seeing him face and those prospects are slim, Alex probably only has a year or so left in the sport at this point lol. He's almost 40. You can't hold opponents that don't exist against him.
@@cineris2389 You are 💯 correct… I wasn’t denying his positioning in the rankings.. there’s no taking away from his accomplishments.. but I’m critiquing his skills as a overall mixed martial artist for the exact reason you stated. That there aren’t many bjj, judo, or wrestling opponent threats currently in the UFC’s heavyweight divisions top 10. Thus far he has defeated everyone solely by having superior striking skills. Which judging based off his kickboxing credentials most already knew he would be better than most when it comes to striking.
Fun fact, Jan bkahcovitz clearly won that fight with Alex Pierra. That decision was clearly rigged, that fight changed the course of Alex’s career. He would not have gotten the title shot if they didn’t give him the decision. Somehow that’s been erased from history lol. Also: no one is beating Alex in a kickboxing fight. That’s like someone fighting DC and deciding to have a wrestling match with him. No one would ever do that. But with kickboxing, apparently everyone in mma thinks they can strike with a glory champ. I don’t get it.
I predict for you uncle Chael... DDP at 205 will be the end of Alex Pereira! I'm just sharing for you that Alex has not faced a true rounded MMA fighter that could match him with the striking but also could dominate him on the ground. Not for nothing, DDP is a K1 kickboxing champion but also an elite grappler with an Iron chin. We have not seen anyone force AP to fight on the back foot!

Gregory Rodrigues is a BJJ world champion he was doing sparring with Poatan and said that many people dont know how good his grappling is. And he trained BJJ even doing kickboxing if you dont know
@@_DioBrando_ and Khabib is trash on the feet
He has been gifted sloppy brawlers to KO, Israel Adesanya beat his brains out even though he is starting to lose his edge
Tito tapped
Edit. Middletown Ohio High School 2-0 last week. JD Vance on Tuesday and Kayla Harrison last night.
Poatan is like Thanos from Avengers and he keeps collecting the fuck1ng infinity stones as Cormier told to Joe Rogan. 😂 CHAMA!!!!
That Jamal Hill comment was savage af hahaha, gotta love Pereira
5:29 is why you’re here.
Kickboxers saved the sport and made it exciting. Let’s not forget that Israel Adesanya was active for 3 years and faced the most dangerous opponents in the MW division. Glory fighters are just built differently
They're building up Conor vs Khabib at LHW with Ankalaev
Not at all, unless you wanna call any fight with striker vs wrestler a "Conor - Khabib kinda fight"
@@Oakenlix ask uncle Chael if he thinks Conor vs Khabib in 2025 would just be any fight
Alex is the excellence of basic Muay Thai. He is not fancy, he just does the basics perfectly!!
Finally Chael is talking facts about Ankeliav! Dude might be Dagestandeni, but he’s a striker!
44 seconds no views… Chael needs to call more fighters good looking
😂😂😂 that’s great . He does like to remind us when a fighter checks the “handsome” box
I'm a GSP fan and think he's the best ever but Alex is pushing that
Alex Pereira vs John Jones has suddenly become more interesting than the jones vs Ngannou fight ever was.
If Poatan can win the HW belt he will become the Roy Jones Jr of the UFC because he’ll gain a cult of fans that will swear by him as the GOAT
Pereira must go in boxe.
Double champ Glory kickboxing
Double champ UFC
3 title defenses in 7months.
Poatan is a performer. His shows are always incredible. I respect that so much.
Cmon Cheal, you said Roundtree was gonna destroy Alex. Let's hear you apologize, and say you were wrong.
@@kev30631 can't argue with that!
Damn uncle Sonnen, I would've thought someone like you would take full control of the first minute of their video and not have a full on ad before content
Alex should stay right where he is at let them come to him...!!!
Uncle chael you cannot dictate 'Poatan', you are not the one calling the shot, also does Ankalaev. Alex is the champion and superstar right now, he's calling the shot, he can do whatever he like.
chael just said the other day poatan is not as good as we think he is , i dunno dude his recovery and adapting to a fire fight is pretty impressive
Bold words by Walmart Jim Jones. You spent the entire last year trashing him and calling him overrated.
If Pereira beats Ankalaev, he will deserve to go up or down and fight whoever he wants
Stop Predicting fights u have caused my casual fans money.
Wasn’t long ago we’d talk this way about Izzy …. Life happens
‘Stand em up’
Being "dynamic" has nothing to do with 🐐 status if we're willing to place Khabib in that category when he was essentially a one-trick pony.
Fuck why I've waited so long for this, Chael? please, upload faster hahaha
I think the blueprint for beating this guy has to include elite wrestling and ground pounding with good cardio. Unless you get lucky and catch him standing up with a shot like Adesania has done.
Do I think Bones can finish Hill in the 1st round? Yeah, I do. Tomorrow, let alone in his prime.
When it comes to facing other strikers & brawlers.. sure… but Alex barely - rarely fights wrestlers or bjj opponents. Hard to judge him as an overall mma fighter just yet.
lol it has been 2 years and a ton of fights. does it take you this long to order at mcdonald's too?
Cuz ass scooters are boring
Aside from Ankalaev there aren't really any at LHW and he's not even much of a wrestler himself. Jones is the only real credentialed wrestler you'd have any kind of chance at seeing him face and those prospects are slim, Alex probably only has a year or so left in the sport at this point lol. He's almost 40. You can't hold opponents that don't exist against him.
@@cineris2389
You are 💯 correct… I wasn’t denying his positioning in the rankings.. there’s no taking away from his accomplishments.. but I’m critiquing his skills as a overall mixed martial artist for the exact reason you stated.
@@cineris2389 besides Ankhalev.. as you stated..
He cleaned out 205 as far as I care. Unless DDP moves up, then Alex should move up to HW
Ankaleav will beat Rakic and then Alex will beat Ankaleav.....dude is way tougher than I gave him credit for....I would love to see him at HW too....
Alex Piera gonna smash Alex Raychick
Why do I really want to see Roundtree vs Strickland next.
It's most probably be Peaeira vs the winner of Unclealive vs Raychick
I predict for you uncle Chael... DDP at 205 will be the end of Alex Pereira! I'm just sharing for you that Alex has not faced a true rounded MMA fighter that could match him with the striking but also could dominate him on the ground. Not for nothing, DDP is a K1 kickboxing champion but also an elite grappler with an Iron chin. We have not seen anyone force AP to fight on the back foot!
