I feel like most people that dont want a pet had a pet in the passed they loved so much they didnt wanna replace them. Once a new one comes in they realize they can love another one and never forget the last baby.
I had the opposite experience. My parents got a dog YEARS back around when we got our kitten, we still live with the cat and the dog is moved out with my dad and my younger siblings but i was super against getting a dog. I'm very badly allergic to dogs so part of me was salty that they were willing to like. Hurt me to get a dog. But I met him as a puppy(they named him Dexter... we thought of way better names but dad had already decided so whatever) and yes he fucked up my allergies but he was a sweetheart, he was a bit of a scoundrel sometimes but in a funny way. He would hide by me on the couch when anyone mentioned him getting a bath or needing brushed (for some reason he HATED bath time and getting brushed, he just always did no matter what). I attached more then I thought I would, and he's the only dog I can see myself keeping if they ever for some reason needed to rehome him (but he's happy where he is! He has more dogs to play with at my dads). He loooooved me and my big sis because we didn't do most of the care for him discipline wise, we just fed him and played with him or let him cuddle. Funnily enough, I was more allergic to the shorter furred dog they got a couple years later. Now that dog was more annoying bc he was neutered a bit too late so he was kind of an asshole sometimes. He still lives with my dad now tho........ which im more happy about. I miss Dexter more though
Why are parents such liars? My mom always said no to dogs. My sister brought home her adorable chihuahua and she became our dog. She's so loved and spoiled until she doesn't know who to go to get cuddles and pets and treats.
Because that dog is another responsability they will take care of. Even if they love the animals, if something happens with that animal they will have to deal with the consequences, not their sons.
