I watch several sailing Vlogs, and I finally figured out why I like yours the most. It is because you are a genuinely interesting young woman. A great role model for young girls/women, and men alike. You have an artist's eye for beauty, and a sailor's wit/sense of humor. Your warm spirit and calm clear voice makes even the most difficult days you are going through seem rewarding. Thank you for sharing your journey, and unlike some of the other commenters in this string of comments, I think you're great, your videos are great, and if you need to take more time in between each video then that is great as well. Love your videos-a lot of sailing videos are “couples sailing videos” and they have the same terrible music and it’s just exhausting lol. I like that you play your own music, have a great sense of humor, very creative, and your videos are real. I find I look forward to watching your adventures!!

Hi love your videos just a quick hint for peeling garlic... just put a clove on your board and lie a wide knife on top of it flat then give a quick bash with the heel of your hand ..the skin will fall away in your hands and it's easier to chop too...keep up the cool vids

I'm impressed you kept your doors closed in the bad weather. Most cruisers leave them open and manage to get good footage of a saloon half full of sea water from a breaking wave. Then they complain about all their electronics that got destroyed by the "Rogue Wave" Cheers
You're such an inspiration! I am so impressed at how you can handle sailing out there by yourself. I don't know if could do that. It's interesting to watch how you deal with it and not show any stress!
Holly, I look forward to seeing your videos every week. Most of my crusing has been on inland rivers. Still provisioning for a month solo sail on a river never takes one out of sight of the land (shore), but it is an adventure. I had a 21 foot sloop back in the day. Vacations were always on that sloop. Now that I am retired, and have the time, I am limited to a 14 foot Javelin dinghy Be safe.
My wife and I watch your channel religiously and for sure this was one of your best episodes. Enjoy the ABC islands!

That was a fabulous fish!!! The concept of constant is so nebulous but true for we mere sailors and especially doing it solo.... the good moments always overcome the fearful times and it looks like you are getting to another level of confidence in your seamanship!

Dorado, Dolphin fish or Mahi-Mahi, they are amazingly beautiful and delicious fish.

I am seven miles from nearest sea , and yet feel I am swaying on your boat 😊
Here’s a little tip when you’re Oceanic sailing and there’s little to no wind and a beam sea, If you have a length of three strand (Polypropylene) that is the same diameter as your main sheet, swap them out and the stretchiness will absorb the shock-loading on the mainsail (And therefore the rig and all the hardware) and as a benefit, you will actually increase your boat speed significantly (Well, +40% of 2 knots is still pretty slow!! All things relative right?) and all the associated banging and shuddering will be a distant memory. (You can just cheat and tie a length of Poly between the top and bottom blocks on your mainsheet - making sure that it’s shorter than your taut mainsheet at the Poly lines’ most stretched out...) Hope that makes sense for you and gives your u a bit of peace and quiet onboard! :-) xoxo
If it didnt help her, it helped me. On light winds and these dang hawaii variable winds. Thats a good idea, shock absorbers on the mainsheet. I just put a couple d rings on my boom to tie a line to, to stop the boom from swinging. Once you get hit in back of the head by the boom one good time, you realize that boom preventer lines are a real good idea.
Shock absorbers on the mainsheet sounds like a good idea as well. Im gonna try that.

The openplotter / pypilot software might be of assistance to keep you motoring in a straight line
Have you ever thought of adding a down-halyard to the jib - to prevent you from having to go forward in squals / at night.
Lead it back to your cockpit and take care of business from there.
also if you lay the blade of your knife flat, and pop it with your other hand (with the garlic under the knife) it smooshes it and you can just pop the edible part out of the husk or shell or whatever thats called on garlic :)
Another quick way to peel garlic..... Imagine that you are rubbing the palms of your hands together to warm them. Now do the same thing but with a clove of garlic between your palms. The skin will fall right off. This exercise will be easier on your hands if you simply trim the ends from the clove first. Additionally, my wife and I love your channel. We also worry about you at times. Stay safe.

Take an old pill bottle wash well. Put in some cloves of garlic and screw on the lid. Shake the heck of it 10-20 seconds . Open the bottle to find all garlic are peeled.

True and honest sailing channel, amazing person I can tell you have been around sailboats for a long time most unskilled sailors (most of the TH-camrs) would have sailed right into that storm you had the patience and knowledge to wait it out even if it meant going in the wrong direction, I have been here since the beginning and hope it doesn’t end
Awesome job with the fish!! Just cure it with salt or put chunks of it in a jar with lime or lemon juice with salt if you like. It will lst forever.

OOOO, Saracha egg and Ramin w/ peanut butter, sounds delicious, I like it..... usually in squalls cooking a spicy pasta sauce and noodles w/ an egg....and hot sauce got to have hot sauce. Galley is bigger, and hand rails line the overhead. So exercising is optional....
We need to get you a ceviche cook book!! Lime, pineapple, lemon juice, green onion and cilantro make a great ceviche. Ya can even add some diced avocado right before service...
Ceviche is a dish where the citric acids in the citrus juices cook your seafoods... takes about 30 minutes to make...
I love your video. I have been working towards doing what your doing for a few years now. It feels like bad things keep happening postponing my great adventure. You don't see many young women sailing alone and its really badass. Keep up the great work! Oh and if you squish the cloves of garlic with the heel of your hand just until it cracks the paper comes right off.

Hello, Holly! I'm not sure how often you check up on comments on your life 3 years ago, but I'm here. To avoid Spoiler alerts, I'm watching you in fast motion. I grew up in CT sailing on a 27' Tartan on LI Sound, and I remember hanking on the jibs. You are funny and wise and adventurous. I think you are the child my father wanted to have, but he made due with the ones the universe sent him. Are you deliberately being "Old School" with no tiller A/P and no roller furler and a meek engine, or is this finances, or just being Holly? Whatever, it's fun to watch you evolve. I'm about 3 years behind, but catching up fast. Prayers.
You are the BOMB!!! - Questions to help me learn: Why not put up a storm jib w/ reefed main in squalls to help stabilize the boat? - Also: What about Ceviche? Could the fish preserve in lemon/lime and onion marinade for a few more days?
Anytime you see that floating sea grass you can bet there will be a mahi mahi under it.

a great way to peel garlic is to take a material (preferably rubber) and roll the garlic in it (the side of the rubber peel the skin right off) and you get a perfectly clean clove of garlic.
Yes, they do, Charles ... a feline friend of mine navigator extraordinaire...sings and recites poetry. Yes ... your well balanced downwind, w/ preventer and whisker pole up.... good choice.

You are fun to watch! Keep doing what you are doing. BTW, ever think of a Downhaul for your jib instead of running forward? I've always use them on my hank on jibs but it does require some netting on the front part to keep your jib out of the sea. Loosen the halyard, pull the downhaul and tighten up the jib sheet.. Done!

Wind up - reef in as soon as you think of it.
Wind dropped? Make tea, consider wind & wave pattern.
No rush to shake the reef out.
But good to set mainsail rig up so reefs can go in/ out from cockpit - means no waiting to put them in & little effort to shake out.
The trick is leech reef lines lead back plus *separate* line for each luff cringle instead of putting on horn (just needs to pull cringle down level with horn. Lead main halyard back & topping lift too.
Result is easy reefing from cockpit (change to lashing if staying reefed for a long time)
