A flat motor with ardun heads and a scott blower in a 33 3 window! It doesn't get much better than that. I am grooving on watching this project proceed. 😎👍
Timely video, as I've been thinking of moving the steering box on my '36 back for clearance on the exhaust. Your video gave me some things to consider. Thanks!
Absolutely huge improvement over where the steering wheel originally would have been. It's going to be way more comfortable driving it. Merry Christmas and a prosperous Happy New Year to the Iron Trap Garage team.
Great work! Awesome perspective(s) on the Ardun machine! The video buffeted at points (my end). Typically annoying...but, the entire frame was jam-packed with awesomeness! Took my time and concentrated on the whole and its parts. Wow! That's gonna be something! Thanks for the really great content! Well done!
I use to want to take a old F-4 Phantom fuselage remove the wings and make a car out of it just for fun ! I'm 67 years old Air Force veteran there was 4 aircrafts that I loved ! A Corsair like the Blacksheep Squadron , F4 Phantom , F106 Delta Dart and F102 Delta Dagger ! The F102 and F106 are about the same except one was a single seater the other was a 2 seater ! We had both at Minot AFB in North Dakota when I was stationed there in 1978 - 1982 !
Taking the necessary time to determine the ideal steering box location. Filling and bracing previous cutouts. Verifying clearances for the headers, dash mounts, foot pedals, dashboard appearance, seating location/steering ergonomics. Determining the correct linkage type, flattening the grooves, creating clearances for steering rod linkeage rotation, rod length and tap, cardboard aided design. Looked simple and quick but quite involved. Evidently lots of previous lessons learned e.g. Instagram post and gut instincts. Soon you will be able to steer. Waiting for next video with dash mounts and pedals. Hopefully pedal location, design, travel and ergonomics will be an easier task than previously. Great instructional video.
I really love the look of this car the way it sets , body to frame , it is just so bad ass ! The engine mock up is truly sick with those Ardun heads & blower , lol ! That is going to be an awesome looking lean mean Green street machine ! The double master cylinder set & chrome front end hardware do finish it out nicely . That looks like a drag car just setting there . Sliding the steering box back on the frame did a couple of things for you that seem to have been needed for both fit , as well as function . This also cleared up a potential problem with the pedal placement . So three things accomplished in just one move . Nice ! Always a pleasure to see what you guys are up to at Iron Trap Garage ! Have a merry Christmas everyone , both to the families , & to the friends of ITG ! Good people here !
Pity you didn’t have a Schroeder steering box. Would of made life that much easier and I think would of been a great addition to the project. But you made it work with what you had. Wishing you and your family and friends a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Matt, maybe you should think about putting a "U" joint in the steering shaft behind the dash. Then you could get the box back out the way of the exhaust but still be able to put the steering wheel height at a reasonable level.
Matt why not use a ballpeen hammer and tap out the pattern? Just a suggestion for the future. Not being critical but it is much easier. I do this all the time for gaskets.
Christmas greetings from Australia, great work and video's guys, Enjoy your trip to the Aussie Nats next year. One question about Steve, does he have a hotrod/custom. cheers guys
Think smarter? It takes just as long ( or longer) to file the entire spline flat as it does to just split the spline. You do it your way I’ll do it mine.
Did you consider mounting that steering Box farther back up inside the cowl and have your sector shaft come through the cowl and you're drag link run down outside the frame rail?
I have noticed that Steve seems to be having far too much fun at Iron Trap. Today's employee is supposed to be disgruntled and downcast. Steve is far too gruntled, in my opinion! Pay cut? Longer hours? Poorer working conditions? Yes, I am kidding. You are fortunate to have Steve! There should be something nice in his stocking! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to the Iron Trap crew, families, and your followers!

Thanks Gary!
Steve looks comfortable in the car !
Matt , I like the way you think on how to make things work to make a old Hot Rod ! Just like they would have done it back in the day !
Try and use what we have and use old parts!
Nice progress, cool that you could set the steering box back and get just enough clearance to make a set of pipes fit!
Looks like it is functioning to me you all do good work.
I’m glad you are finely working on my favorite car you have. I know my 6 foot body won’t fit in It but I love it. Can’t wait to see it done.
Thank you for the update on this car !
That is a huge project to be followed by the next huge project. Very good.
Matt and the shop crew Merry Christmas and Happy New!!!!
Wishing you all a Merry and Blessed Christmas, and a Happy and Blessed New Year
Freaking sweet👌 2 back to back episodes of my favorite builds!
That car is gonna be a bad ass with that blown Ardun engine.

Very nice job Matt Great job on the pitman arm Merry Christmas All

That thing is so cool! Great job 😊
Another great video guys. Y’all have a Merry Christmas and we’ll see you next time.
Great job on the column install. Know it has to be the way you want it. Loved the video! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Buffering is a problem with your internet connection. Not TH-cam.
@@IronTrapGarage Yes, that's why I readily admit the buffering was on my end - "(my end)".

Great instructional video.
Thank you! Definitely trying to think it all through and take my time. A lot to fit in a small area with how chopped and channeled this car is!

Another good one to use is a Mopar steering box for a cowl steering setup.
Not looking for cowl steering on this car.
My favorite build!
Finally been waiting for this
Speedway has the 11/16 right & left taps
Yep ordered some
Awesome!👍😎
good job
Yessssss..
Hey Matt, coming along great, gonna be nice...Ralph
Is the Ardun Engine going to have extra mains installed making the bottom end stronger with the Supercharger?
Matt, maybe you should think about putting a "U" joint in the steering shaft behind the dash. Then you could get the box back out the way of the exhaust but still be able to put the steering wheel height at a reasonable level.
The steering wheel is at a reasonable level.
Matt why not use a ballpeen hammer and tap out the pattern? Just a suggestion for the future. Not being critical but it is much easier. I do this all the time for gaskets.
Oh boy it looks cold in the garage, wait if we use the torch it will warm things up! Great work guys!
65 degrees in the shop. Probably 75 degrees near the stove.
May have been mentioned already, but are you going to fill all those unused holes in the frame, or leave them as it probably was done in the 50's?
Fill most of them.
You planning on welding up those old steering box holes? I'm wondering about structural integrity in that part of the frame.
Yes.
Christmas greetings from Australia, great work and video's guys, Enjoy your trip to the Aussie Nats next year. One question about Steve, does he have a hotrod/custom. cheers guys
Steve has a healthy BBC Nova!
the music cracks me up
21:15 Just file the wide "spline" off. You are not going to compromise the part by doing that.
Think smarter, not harder.

Matt it looks great But can a big fat guy fit in ?
matt are you going to fill the holes in frame where the old stearing box location was?
Yes of course I’ll fill the holes. Lots of welding and repairing of the frame in the future. This isn’t a car for a “fat guy” sadly.
Did you consider mounting that steering Box farther back up inside the cowl and have your sector shaft come through the cowl and you're drag link run down outside the frame rail?
I considered it but I prefer the way I did it. Look a little more stock and I don’t have a steering box trying to compete for room with the pedals.
Are you going to put the frame horns back on the front?
Not sure yet.
@@IronTrapGarage I think it'll add to the look.
Where did you get the dummy Arden heads? 3D printer?
I believe Speedway has them
@@MrStacy1974 Wow, I see! That can’t be a volume seller… how many useable Ardun heads are still out there?
@@jamesstettler3191 H&H still reproduces them

Haha yep he’s almost always having fun! We’re lucky to have him!
Aren’t you going to box and fill the frame 😢 that engine is going to make pretty good power isn’t it?
Yes I am boxing the frame. Need to have a steering box location sorted before I box it…
Don't ask for comments. Boom!
Nice Video.
