Lest we forget the difficult (early) history of the R46s...cracked trucks, lawsuits, drama, the bankruptcy/bust of Pullman Standard and horrible MTBF. Only after rebuilding(more like re-engineering) by Morrision Knudson in the early 90s did the R46 become liveable. Will miss the 70s formica/wood paneling and colorful seats though. Sorry to see them go.....
I remember riding the shuttle with my family to Playland (Beach 98th St). Back then, it was the "E". The amusement park, the beach, the rolling stock (R 1-9's, R 40 Slants). The younger viewers may have to Google "Rockaway Playland".
I remember when I used to work in the Rockaways and after work I would ride the Shuttle. I would stand on the seats "holding the pole at the same time" and with the train swaying it felt like I was subway surfing "lol". Just wouldn't be the same vibe with these trains "SMH" 😔
That is really too bad. I'll miss sitting in that forward-facing seat going across the bay with the lights off. The R46s on Rockaway felt like a time machine back to '90s New York railfaning.
Just an example of how the MTA treats the Rockaways. Like a forgotten step child. No reason why old equipment should be on that line for so many years while other lines are managed better.
@@ariesarethebest271 Cause the shuttles across the system don't need that much attention since they are shuttles, and their rolling stock is shared hence why there was no NTTs on it. A used majority R46s sooo since the R211s are replacing all r46s now there is a reason to put NTTs on the Rockaway shuttle.
It would be nice if they had platform cameras that the operators could see from in the cab. Similarly to the London Underground with there S stock trains.
So When Does The R211 Subway Cars Return To Regular Revenue Passenger Service Anyways If I May Ask You The Question About That Thank You Very Much And You?! HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaLOL!:-)
No, I want simple basic cars running the system like the 68,and 62's. Simple reliable equipment, and if you want put the automatic announcement system in. The builder doesn't think this new technology crap is going to last 20 years. So yes the older cars are better.,but you are on the outside looking in and have no idea what's going on looking
This is stupid, they should keep R46 on the shuttle until all are retired, why put new reliable trains on a short barely used route. It would make logical sense to keep the young and reliable fleet on the A, and keep R46 on the shuttle where they won't be as abused. MTA logic will NEVER make sense.
That way when only 5 cars of 179s are in the shop another 5 could be used on the shuttle line instead of sitting in the yard its good for the rotation of the 179s since the 46s are being rotated less
@@toxicrepstan1897I hate to inform you, but the 179s mpf is less than 300,000 miles. The actual mileage is less then 295,000. Only the 46's are worse. So you're garbage can train that you think is so great, is next to last in failures!
This is the beginning of the end of the R46. Thanks for over 4 decades of amazing.
They ran first on Broadway (along with 6th Av) and will be the last to run on Broadway.
Actually 5 decades of it

Good riddance. The R46 is crap.
I rode the R179 on the Rockaway Park Shuttle with my Dad yesterday for the first 2 times before and after 5PM.
Tbh R179s are such a fantastic fit for the Rockaway Shuttle, even though the R46s certainly carried a great legacy.
Only one set was assigned to run on the shuttle before the swap.

I KNEW it was named Playland for a reason
Nice to see the NTTs run on the shuttle line!
Dam, so that means no more r46 on the rockaway shuttle, i tried to find one yesterday but it was only r179s for four hours
😮
It looks cooler with R179s on the rockaway shuttle
We all should know that this isn't clickbait nor old footage
And that's the end of R46s on the Rockaway Shuttle. Thanks DJ Hammers👌💚
As of right now, they are 3 or 4 R179 Sets on the Rockaway Park Shuttle right now. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Initially the Rockaway Park Shuttle train was supposed to be assigned two 5-car R179 train sets and one 4-car R46 train set before this
Awesome video. Thanks for posting!

@@blackking7512 Thanks for proving my point that the (A) line has and still has way out of date rolling stock.

Are there’s temporary or permanent r179s on the rockaway park shuttle
I read that 6 of the 7 R211 models were taken out of service because of faulty gearboxes. There's a video of car #4085 that had a flat wheel.
Amazing video, as always! What camara was used for this?
R-68 and A is NEXT in line the 211T is coming!
Nope the R68A is now totally gone from the A. It’s now on the N/W Q Lines.
@@rohilkoovappara4927 it also operates on the B
Only like 5 ppl be riding that shuttle. Most of the passengers go to Mott Avenue.
Real Nice
Is it permanent?
Seems like it since they've been on the shuttle for quite awhile now. It will be interesting to see these run on the summer Rockaway Park shuttle
Not sure
by the looks of it, yes.
It's looking like so with the R46s on the verge of retiring.
Sorta
so the A got less R179s now?
The majority of R179s that are 5 car sets are still on the A.
RPK Shuttle only has 2 5 car sets broken up from the 10 full car
So im guessing since there like 7 set of the r211 they giving the r179 from the (A) to the (S) to retire the r46
No, all 211s' are out of service for about two months!
Bruh
R211A’s are out of service due to mechanical problems
Always issues with the new trains.
Running a eight car train on a line that four cars are more then enough. What a waste

If you're lucky in about two months. Hopefully never!
@johnalbanese30 And What About The Rest Of The Upcoming Sets?!:-)
Unfortunately the all the cars will be accepted.

The notorious R179s were hardly reliable😂😂😂(broken draw bars, unreliable door components from Emperor Xi. Etc...)
