Starlink Obstructed! Will it work? | RV Living | RV Life

  • Bashing Starlink seems to be the hottest trend now. Everyone is posting things like Was Starlink a bad idea? Is Starlink worth it? How well does Starlink for RV's work? Or making up lists like 4 bad things about starlink, Etc.
    Here is our experience..
We are at our second campsite now with Starlink and we are surrounded by trees. We do have a small patch of clear sky. It says it is obstructed. Will it work and if so how well does it work?
Check out all the stuff available for Starlink on Amazon here

Check out some of our friends channels. We have met them all and they are great people.

Thank you for giving a honest demonstration while using star link with trees. I’ve seen a couple of videos where people just show the trees and the outage and say you can’t use it. I love Star link because I believe it’s about the adaptability of living where you want and going where you want. I love watching the videos of people coming up with new ideas and finding new tricks to make everything work.

Thank you for the positive response. People need realistic expectations. If I go to a site that had trees and my solar panels, Star link or Satellite TV did not work I would feel dumb complaining about it. Obviously, sooner or later I will end up somewhere that it is not going to work. But proper planning should minimize that.

Your slowest speed is 4 times faster than what I get. Like you I'm happy to get 10 mbps download speed, right now getting 4 mbps and glad I can get that. 😀 great video Gary keep them coming 👍

I feel your pain Lennie. We struggled in several places on our trip around the USA. When we arrived here we had no cell signal at all. The weboost does give us 2 bars on the cell but that drifts down to zero and back at random times. This is a hilly and well forested area. I put up the Starlink dish and bingo we had great service. I have mived the coach forward and back a few times but the spot I am in seems to get the best signal. Im sure it even get better over time as Elon only has about 10 percent of the planned satalites up and 60 more go up every month.

Good to hear Starlink is working out for you. Crazy that Rogers went down and took out internet for so many, but cool you still had service with Starlink. Thanks for sharing, Gary.

For those interested in this outage vs obstruction video, be aware that there are other interruptions (dropouts) that this man's app isn't showing. Notice that it is displaying outages greater than 2 seconds. There are ALSO micro outages and for the sake of completeness, the latest Starlink app now has the option to display them as well. So in this video when the app is saying an outage every minute it is obviously including these micro outages. Anyway rule of thumb - trees cause outages, you aint gonna cheat the system. Happy internetting!

Things always get updated and I used what was available at the time. I have had 100% clear skies with no interruptions to test any updates to the app. Thanks for watching.

I enjoyed your video about starlink in Arrowhead. We camp spring and fall in ALGONQUIN and spend our summers in the Tobermory area. I have the round dish mounted on a 16’ pole on our heavily wooded campsite and it’s working well. I think ours is like an obstruction every 1 minute. Recently I purchased a 25’ telescoping pole from Wilson electronics and would like to know where you purchased your flagpole buddy. Thanks

Thanks for watching. I ordered directly from flagpolebuddy.com. They are great people and easy to deal with. I do regret that the pole is not telescopic though. It would be an improvement. To raise the disk requires adding more sections. I wish I had ordered two extra lengths of pole when I bought it. That is my only regret. Other than that it is great!

This is the demo I've been looking for. We just ordered Starlink RV and was wondering how performance would be in less than ideal conditions. Thanks!

Starlink working GREAT at my place Gary except when I ran the snowblower into the cable!!!🤔 My bad... SpaceX replaced my system for free and gave me a one month service credit

You know I read instructions that say stuff like don't operate the toaster while taking a bath or don't change your spark plugs when the engine is running. Until now, I always wondered who those instructions were for?

Thanks for the video. Not possible to do a conference call, online class and live streaming. That is a big no for me.

I understand completely. In my situation with zero cell service, we at least had some Star link and it worked. In your situation the only answer is don’t park with obstructions when in the middle of nowhere and no cell signal.😎
