I couldn’t agree more. This is my favorite game of all time and the one that actually got me into modern board gaming. I’ve been hoping for a reprint or something along those lines for years, having only the base game and Pegasus expansion. I’ve been thinking FFG or someone should do a big box version with everything included. Even on KS it would kill it.
FFG is making a Dune -> Rex style reprint of BSG with an Arkham skin, on a boat - not as good as a proper BSG reprint but I am so happy that so many more players will be able to experience this game.
This game might be my favorite 5 player game. Not sure I like the Cylon sympathizer mechanic for even player counts and 3 player is too small. I always thought this engine would be great for the series 24. There was always a mole on that show and plenty of locations in CTU and around LA that could be used. But would 24 turns/rounds take too long? And like BSG 24 is off the air. ☹️
I don’t think I’ve played a game with less than six. There is a Homeland game with a hidden traitor mech that was pretty fun: th-cam.com/video/OoxfUq8JsE4/w-d-xo.html
I've actually been playing this on tabletop sim. My family doesn't like board games, and I was hoping to hook them...no dice. My last game...I started as a cylon, but played it so low key, that the other players made me the President. If not for a stupid play putting yellow cards into the skill check, they never would've known.
This is a really great game. It is a shame it is Out of Print now. Hopefully, it gets the Dune style reprint in the Future. I will have to say my favorite expansion was actually Exodus because it came with the Cylon fleet and CAG changes that gave the pilots a purpose. We ignored most of the other variants because trying to learn them took time away from us screaming Cylon at each other.
@@Smiley_Whiplash Indeed. You are constantly invested in the game even when it's not your turn. There is a strong negotiation aspect as you are all trying to figure out the best thing for you to do.
I love that expansion also, and it was my favourite for some time. Cylon Fleet Board, CAG, and Conflicted Loyalties are all fantastic. I even love Ionian Nebula, especially the Crossroads cards. For simplicity and time, I do not usually include Exodus now, but I would love to play an all-in game with experienced players and include it.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Now that Ares game have lost the BSG licence, there may be a tiny hope that FFG could pick it up again. I think it's highly unlikely, but I would love everyone to have a chance to own this amazing game (with the BSG theme).
Thank you for talking about this game, it's great to keep it in discussion so that it doesn't get lost to time. I am surpirsed that Zac did not like the expansions, though I can understand that the base game has a purity to it. I used to play with all expansions all-in, but I have recently found that I much prefer Base Game + Daybreak only. Taken in isolation, Daybreak just tweaks the game and fixes a few of the issues it had (i.e. Sympathiser) without completely changing it. Mutiny seems like a big change, but it's actually reasonably straightforward. There is a great essay about this on BGG here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1158368/get-full-daybreak-experience-try-removing-pegasus Like you, I will take any opportunity to play this game! Thanks again
Do you mean the alternate Investigative Committee cards from the Pegasus expansion? I asked a similar question a while ago to more experienced players than I, they felt that the base game Investigative Committee, while very powerful, are balanced with the base game. Their advice was only to use the alternate Investigative Committee cards from the Pegasus expansion when playing with that expansion. I have taken their advice, but I should clarify that I am only relaying information from people better-informed than me.

Agreed.
I think a full premium quality KS would break the internet, it would hit it so hard :D

Oh just got to the bit where you talked about it - loving the podcast
@@mandonz Ha! Thanks. I appreciate it.
To be fair and with full disclosure. I was not always a Cylon... until I was always a Cylon.
Ha!
Good discussion, great music. ;-)
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah - you gotta watch out for the card counters when you are a Cylon.

Ha! I agree about the Dune style reprint.
Besides the baseless accusations, the major strength of this game that I have always liked is the off-turn player participation.

Love the podcast discussion format! I made the mistake of looking at the price of this game on EBay. I am sad and I blame you
Ha! I will own that. Hopin' for that reprint.

Thank you, sir. Glad you enjoyed it.
If only playing with the base game rules would you still consider using the exodus investigative committee?

I've separated the Exodus IC cards out.
I have the base game and really enjoy it. Unfortunately the expansions are very pricey =( no chance of buying any of those
It's because they are all out of print. If they ever do reprint them (don't hold your breath) they would be less.
