I was an 80s kid. This song captivated me the first time I heard it. I didn’t understand the meaning of the lyrics then .. but now it completely resonates with so many aspects of my life
This is a lovely song which I probably didn’t appreciate until I was mid 30s. It may mean more later, especially after life has thrown many challenges at you.
Kate Bush is an amazing artist with similarities to Ren in terms of originality, talent and creativity. She sings, dances, plays keyboards and produces. She was a child prodigy, discovered by Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd). She was the first female artist to have a self written UK no1 with 'Wuthering Heights' at the age of 19 in 1978. She is very much her own person and doesn't really fit into any stereotypes or genre. Some of her stuff is really wild and experimental which I love! She can be an acquired taste but well worth the effort imo. Peter Gabriel is another fantastic artist who was the lead singer with Genesis before he went on to have a very successful solo career. Cheers.
More emotionally supporting then just plain old "hugging"😊 The whole album of Peter Gabriel's (So) is a masterpiece of writing and especially recording, I bought the vinyl version and rate the recording quality up with other greats like Dark Side of The Moon.
I don't know how I missed a reaction to one of my favorite artists. Watching this song from the live Secret World Tour concert was pretty awesome, with Paula Cole instead of Kate Bush. Both ladies are brilliant vocalists. Would love to see ya react to "In your Eyes" from the Secrete World Tour, it will put a smile on your faces for sure. Great reaction!
If you look at the comments for the original music video, it's clear that this song has made a real difference over the years. It has been responsible for saving so many people from darkness, which is brilliant and fantastic. It has been responsible for saving at least one notable pop artist (which you might not be familiar with), namely Elton John, who said in a 2014 BBC documentary about Kate Bush that this song literally saved his life. Regarding Kate Bush, I've been a fan since the very beginning in 1978 with "Wuthering Heights" her debut single which was so different (in so many ways) to the singles in the charts at the time, it made a massive impact and turned into a worldwide smash hit, only to be surpassed in 2022 by "Running Up That Hill". With "Wuthering Heights" Kate beame the first female to reach the UK number 1 with a self written song and she's been setting UK records ever since. She's a singer-songwriter, musician, dancer, record producer, video producer and director. She's considered by many to a musical icon and pioneer and has inspired countless numbers of musicians and artists that have followed her. If you want to dive in and sample Kate Bush, well her discography is of such how quality you can't really go wrong wherever you start. Some people start at the beginning and move forward to see how she evolved as an artist. Others may start listen to the other single releases from her "Hounds Of Love" album and move outwards from there. Or perhaps choose Kate's iconic songs to listen to, the choice is yours. I'm sure that you will have an interesting experience, and if you need guidance there are plenty of Kate Bush fans to help you out.
Peter Gabriel “in Your Eyes” from the Secret World tour will blow you away. Ren and Peter Gabriel are my two favorite artists! Welcome to Peter Gabriel, and Ren!
Context... This song was released in 1986. 1985-1985, UK was the time of the year long Miners strikes, in protest at the planned closure of many Coal Mines (Bear in mind that Coal was a major source of energy at the time.....) Kind of Ironic that the last Coal Fired Power Station in the UK has either just closed or is about to this month. Anyway, in certain regions of the UK these closures decimated towns and villages which relied on the Mines for a huge percentage of employment. There's no doubt that many families were in the position portrayed by this performance with the Main Breadwinner trying to find alternative employment only to be met with hundreds, maybe thousands applying for the few remaining jobs..... I'd wager a few were "standing on that bridge" as mentioned...... Those were hard times.
The song was inspired by a photograph of the American Dust Bowl Depression. He wrote it a year after he had some sort of breakdown, as so many people had encouraged him and told him to not give up. Don’t tarnish it with your politics.
@@rikmoran3963 Yes, inspired by the photograph and accodring to Wki: The song was inspired by the Depression-era photographs of Dorothea Lange, showing poverty-stricken Americans in Dust Bowl conditions.[1] Gabriel saw Lange's images in a book entitled In This Proud Land (1973). He felt that a song based on this was appropriate to difficult economic conditions in the United Kingdom under the premiership of Margaret Thatcher.[4] So - like many songs it was inspired by a combination of things one of which was very much the economic and political landscape of the time. Don't tarnish the history with your politics
It's kind of ironic that in this video they just "stick" together and sing the song because they are both individually two of the BEST on stage , video and live performers in the business ! :)
I worked on music tv programmes when this came out, and I can remember that this video's simple concept was very different from any others at the time. It was definitely a deliberate choice by Peter Gabriel, as his videos around this time were all pushing the artistic norms and limits of the period.
Love the eclipse in the background. It illustrates the arch of the story. (this video was artsy and 'weird' for some, but not typical.....Peter Gabriel is never typical)
Love Pete and Kate, 2 phenomenal artists from my youth. The vid is definitely arty. Represents Pete in the depths of depression with his life falling apart being supported by Kate who knows that he is planning on walking out on them and maybe ending it all. At the darkest moment (total eclipse) she is the shining corona around the eclipse encouraging him to carry on which is also echoed in her solo in the middle. If you haven't watched much from Kate then you definitely should check her out. She hit the big time at 18 with Wuthering heights after obsessing over the book in English lessons. She has some tracks like Army Dreamers that are fairly obvious what they concern but many of her songs are Arty with a capital A. Good luck figuring those out with out hitting up google.
Miners strikes 1984-1985. This song 1986. Imagine every worker in a mining village travelling looking for the same job in the surrounding area? (Just my opinion, but it must have been hell)
It was the 80's, some of the lyrics make me think of the high unemployment and the miners strikes. Difficult times. 'In Your Eyes' by Peter Gabriel is a cracker. 'Army Dreamers' by Kate Bush is typically quirky from her but with a message.
This music is way past our time, I feel old (I'm 60 in a couple of months). This isn't my favourite song on the So album (that is Sledgehammer), but it does give a good message. Apparently Peter wanted Dolly Parton to be his cuddle buddy on the song, but his good friend Kate Bush came in when Dolly declined.
They're both amazing vocalists,no question about that, this is definitely a product of it's time though,i do like In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel, especially a live version that i discovered through yt, In Your Eyes(Secret World Live) it features Paula Cole, another amazing singer, and is hugely popular amongst reactors, that live version has 33M views and is pretty cool,i recommend. Jasmine's pirate impression, hold that thought, you will likely find yourselves referring back to it(hopefully you remember)when you get around to a particular reaction that i know you will definitely be doing at some point, hopefully sooner than later.😄
Two great artists on a great track. When I saw the thumbnail for this piece it made me want to comment. Why? Because I had just previously been watching a piece of news which is suggesting Ren, who I know you are very fond of, is apparently not very well and is or was very recently at A+E because of an health issue. I wanted to just share that piece of news and just say get well soon and Don't Give Up. ❤️
Couldn't help but smile when you said about Peter and Kate' backwards hug, you have to listen to the director of the music video talk about the track. This is 10cc's Lol Creme If the time code doesn't take you directly there it's 10m46s th-cam.com/video/cOhuYEZqgCg/w-d-xo.html
this song is about a mans shame and depression because he cannot find work to provide for his family.. it was originally released in 1986... the lyrics are as relevent today as they where back then.

Oh wow that’s amazing! Tbh when I rewatched it after the reaction I appreciated the video a lot more especially with the lyrics of the song!
Love this song, from my young times! ❤

I've never come across a negative comment in all the reactions for this song in any aspect. I guess your musical taste is still developing.
Music is subjective everyone likes different things- I also don’t think we were negative at all ☺️

Try Kate Bush with This woman's work. Also, try Kate Bush singing , You're the one.

Ideal song for these times with what Labour are doing to our country.
Yes yes, love this anthem, listen to the álbum "So" on repeat all day long when i was 17. Now i can stop listening to Ren and friends.
I didn't find the video weird when it came out and still don't, but then I find just about everything today weird.
I guess it’s just a generational thing. Videos nowadays are definitely weird too, we’ve got quite a bit of hate for speaking about it!
