I think this was on easy/normal. Seems he was just show casing the game. Hopefully there is an option like they are millions to increase the bug count and not just make them harder to kill. This is about numbers not difficulty to kill.
It is cheating but if you use console commands to increase your supplies it triples the amount of bugs that come at you. Makes the game a challenge, especially when it's throwing tanker bugs at you non stop
What would've made this game better; * Persistent incremental enemy damage graphically represented (loosing legs, other body parts...) * Bug bodies piling up - not disappearing. These piles can then be used strategically to gain access to higher points on the map (to get over a wall, for example) or for cover. This game is exactly like Red Alert (1996)
I love Rocket Troopers, great damage and can shoot over walls and units, was terrorizing a Hive with Scorpions and Royal Guard, meanwhile Gatling Marauders with E-Pulse Troopers were blocking the exit. Rocket and Grenade Turrets also shoot over things, that makes them good in some places, still expensive, you can get a building or two HMG Turrets
