You made that look too easy, I had a chain break yesterday and it took me 45 minutes 😂

I worked at McAuley Manufacturing for 10 years. They used to be the only manufacturer of chicken feeder chain until China and South Africa started making copies. Cool to see it in use. Ii would hate to guess how many feet of chain I stamped in that 10 years.

It's when it winds itself into a massive pile and you have to relay it all that's when the fun and the swearing starts

What’s the gun for, and how often do you use it?

farm I work in chains break once a week and it’s the same outside chain of 3 🤦‍♂️prob because the amount of meal it’s pulling I’m not sure

Skippy There are 3 big possible reasons the chains are breaking. 1)The chains are old. This is the least possible reason, but still a factor to consider. 2) the chains are too tight or too loose. This is more likely. 3)The physical characteristics of the feed itself. This has happened to me, where the grain itself was changed somehow and the chains started to break in my house on a daily basis. This not only happened on my farm, but other sister farms as well. Eventually this was corrected on the company side, but now we know that changing feed can cause chain breakage.
The amount of feed shouldn’t be an issue, but the size and I guess “toughness” of the feed can

How tight should the chain be in a hen house

The issue we’re having is the chain keeps getting hung up in the corner guide rail we’re thinking the chain is stretched out to it’s working limit I can’t find any information about how to determine the chain-links improper spacing i.e. what’s the distance in a 6 foot section on a broken down chain like how many chain links or in a 6 foot section also the inch distance per the 6 foot section we have a lot of binding going on and it’s breaking down the system our system feed hopper chain drive and troughs are exactly identical to yours

I was told 18 inches find a section in the center pull it up till it should pull to 18 inches

You want to run the chain tight but not to loose that there is to much slack

Yea, otherwise it loops at the drive unit.

i pop a chain at lease twice a month. running 24 year old chains though.

Twice a month? Chains at my house are at least 35 yrs old and they pop like 6 times a year, if not less.
I'm curious as to why they may be pulling apart so often...

not really sure. they have hair line cracks in some links though. They had a hard first few years of life until we changed out to a different feed machine. but yeah out of 8 chains, i may have one break a month. but sometimes i can go a good while without a break,
