What team is it that if they win the league costs the bookies the biggest pay out
Being the favourite does not mean they have had the most money betted on them
So which team has the most gamblers place bets on them to win the league world wide ?

VAR just needs to adopt the TMO system and approach from Rugby ... that works very well, is open to all (as the officials are mic'd up and the audio is transmitted live) and the video review is shown in the stadium. (Remember that rugby is a much more technical game in terms of the rules and regulations vs football, yet TMO still works well). With TMO they also stop the game clock during the review so there's no need for a random assessment of stoppage time.

This is bang on and what Alan has said many times is the lawmakers themselves need to be looked at because the wording & the intricacies of the current laws are quite ridiculous. If 99% of people can recognise & agree on what is a transgression based on just 1 or 2 showings of a replay then it's hardly rocket science is it? Just simplify & clarify the laws & then better educate the referees & officials in conjunction with a TMO-style system. It would speed things up plenty compared to our current system & would still result in a much fairer game overall.

    VAR:
1 - needs to be shown on the big screen the same way it is in rugby union
2 - needs a 20-30 second limit, if you can't make a decision in that time it's not clear and obvious
3 - needs referee mics the same way they do in rugby

@@mikemyers8124 My thinking behind a 30second time limit is that if there isn't an immediately clear answer then you have to stick with the on-field decision, similar to rugby where they can't always see if the ball is grounded for a try. You keep it to 30 seconds where if they're not quickly sure then you leave it. Adding a time limit would prevent howlers from the on-pitch ref and stop stupid long var reviews

I really think they have to move forwards with VAR, rather than move backwards to a time before it.
Key changes that might be helpful:
    1. The fans have to be made aware of what's happening via the screens in grounds and maybe even audio of the decision process, like in cricket.
    2. Perhaps a set time limit to decide: if an obvious error can't be found in that time limit, then go with the on-field decision.
    3. A lighter touch: offsides are automatically checked but the captain has to decide whether they want to appeal a penalty decision (and they have a limited number of appeals per game).
If it's just scrapped entirely, we likely won't get even one weekend into the new season without something contentious that VAR could have sorted out.
Having said all that, irate teams, players and fans maybe also give it too much importance: decisions can change games but the games are 90+ minutes long, after all. It's too easy to use a bad decision as the scapegoat for a sub-par performance.

U know what the decision is going to be when he’s goes to the monitor. Ridiculous. Me being a professional ref in the booth should be able to say to u that’s a penalty. Why do I need to send u to the monitor when I know what u r going give. Embarrassing. It just creates more headaches than ever. We don’t need it just bin. I am delighted we got him and believe he is the man to take us forward and we should do everything to keep him where a club like Liverpool might be eyeing this situation up nicely but his methods of outcasting players who we needed when injuries hit and showing little care for cup competitions meant the league was all we had left and it was almost guaranteed 5-6th place. I have nothing against him at all except he can't expect fans to not take silver linings in a season when we lost Kane, Son missed a sitter in the game he's talking about, we had no european football but still finished out of top 4 with no tournament runs and strange decisions like substitutions or tactics etc...
All of that said, not at all slating Ange or saying anything like he should go... hell no. Best i've seen us play in years and I want more, win or lose at least give your all. Some points that where made in the video might not work.
    1. Captain appeal. Is it just the captains decision to appeal or can the team mates tell them "hey i think he was offside or i think i was fouled". As dependent on whete the captain is postioned on the field can really have an impact as it would be different from say a striker who is captain and a centre back or a goalkeeper.
    2. The showing the var in the stadium. I agree the refs should be mic'd up so the fans can hear whats happening but not all stadiums still have the possibility of showing the decision e.g old trafford or anfield.
    3. The clear and obvious thing i think should be down to what was said by Alan in earlier podcasts. If you cant see and error in looking at the footage in 30 seconds then the referees decision is final.
I am also in the mind of just scrapping it as most of the talks of games nowadays at least on tv is just the decisions that var got wrong if there was a bad decision in the game.
With the semi automated offsides too will that be looking at toes being offside or will that just be the clear offsides?
Also with that system what will the assistants be looking for as it seems like their work load is getting lighter.

  • @Prottayon

Do you think implementing a Tennis Style appeals system would optimise VAR?? This could be where either the Manager or Captain have the right to appeal 3 times for VAR to be used by the referees. If correct, they keep 3/3 appeals, if incorrect, they lose 1/3 appeals. Thoughts??

    @barneyhall2753 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

Referees rarely make mistakes. They can miss something, but they make decisions on what they actually see and what they see is only from one angle of the play.
Linesman see the action from a different angle and this sometimes places them in a position where they see something the referee misses. Rightfully they are able to bring this to the referee's attention who can then make a decision based on the linesman's advice.
One of the worst things a referee can do in a game is try and guess what happened.
When you watch a game on TV you rarely, if ever, see the action from the same perspective as the referee. You are usually seeing the game from a high angle looking down into the action. This helps to eliminate the clutter you get when viewing the game at ground level caused by the players around the ball.
If you see something on TV that the referee missed you need consider first, where was the referee and was it likely that they could see it. Most of the time you come out saying probably not.
The next question is, considering the flow of the play did the referee put themselves in the best position to observe the play.
If the answer to these questions are no and yes, it is unreasonable to criticise the referee.
If you want to micro-analyse the TV footage of a game there will always be things that the referee missed.
VAR has helped to reduce this number, but it has impacted on the flow of the game.
They are using VAR for too many situations that it doesn't deal with well and this is the cause of many of the delays.
The question for the game's administrators and clubs around VAR is, how much they are willing to allow the flow to be impacted.
There are certain decisions that the VAR technology allows for a quick decision making process. There is little to no problem with using these.
Others are more time consuming and the technology doesn't facilitate making a prompt decision. I believe they should prioritise and limit the type of incidents in this category that they consider.
VAR will continue to develop and as the technology improves. This will enable it to handle more situations in a timely manner and those elements can be progressively introduced.

Use VAR for what it was introduced for - clear obvious mistakes and consistency - If can’t see an error in a min the ref decision stands it’s simple - plus would make refs make decision as now they’re not making decisions in case wrong - and some var officials will look for ages at an incident while others don’t so even more inconsistency than was before

  • @GTAjedi

The KEY to solving VAR (if you want to keep it) is to have the VAR ref make the decision and COMPLETELY IGNORE THE ONFIELD REF. The VAR should be referred the incident with NO KNOWLEDGE of what the onfield ref decided. Otherwise human nature kicks in and they will support their onfield friend.

    • @daviebananas1735

Goal line technology works - stays
VAR with offside works - stays but needs to be improved.
One area that no one talks about is when players con the ref. Leaving a leg out to get ‘touch’, not an intention foul. Players need to stop this.
If a player does this then they should be booked. VAR does show this. The game for all the good, has lost is losing its honesty and integrity

VAR is the best thing to happen to football since the invention of the ball. Some fans have forgotten how horrific it was to see weekly mistakes that cost games, trophies, World Cup Quarter Finals, relegations. There were glaring errors ALL THE TIME. VAR isn't perfect... but 95% is far better than 50%.

    VAR is just a replay.
The problem is VAR, or maybe even the match referee, actively trying to avoid difficult decisions.
As an example: Doku kicking Macallister in the chest. Post-match, Howard Web and Owen "analyze" the VAR audio, wherein they say that "both went in high" and "it hit Dokus boot first", which you can clearly see in the replay dont happen. This is an attempt of Michael Olivier to pass the blame/outrage of a difficult call, to the VAR room. And VAR was also afraid, and had to rewrite reality to justify not taking action.
I think the referees and VAR are afraid of making hard calls. They try to avoid things that impact title candidates/fan favourites, due to the fan and media frenzy that appear afterwards.
If VAR is to be fair, then the VAR operator should not know which teams or players they are judging. The players in the replay should be "cloaked" for VAR.
That's the only way to avoid biases or associated fears that the VAR operators have towards teams/players.

  • @markallgood380
    @markallgood380 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

A possible solution to the "clear and obvious" issue with VAR, how about they put a time limit on it? If within 30 seconds they can't decide whether it was or wasn't the correct decision, then by default it's not clear and obvious and should therefore revert back to the original decision made by the on-field ref.
There's also an issue with football laws, they've been over complicated and this has allowed too much personal interpretation to come into play. They need to simplify the rules again and get some consistency back. There should never be an incident on a football pitch where 2 different referees can have 2 different opinions about an incident on the pitch. Nothing should be left open to interpretation when it comes to the rules, they need to be easy to understand for everyone.

Without complete transparency, VAR will continue to be controversial. I agree with my team Wolves objecting to what is going on. After all, poor decisions cost us dearly this season and have completely denied us the opportunity to qualify for any European competition. Without access to Europe clubs of our size will continue to be in a poor competitive position to attract the type of players that will give us a fair crack at consistently competing in the top half of the table.

Subjective calls should never be adjudicated by VAR. If VAR goes, get rid but accept the officials decisions and don't complain endlessly about referee mistakes (that's not going to happen). If it stays put it on hiatus for a year and fix. Dismiss everyone involved in VAR from top to bottom and replace with qualified personnel, appointed by an independent panel ( intelligent people with no obvious affiliations, may include current officials). Football itself and the way it is run is probably the main problem underlying VAR issues. For example, rules not being enforced (shirt pulling, players pushing, out of control tackles to name just 3, either enforce the rules or change them. If rules can't be fairly and consistently enforced (eg handball) change the rule until it can. That's a start
TLDR, Scrap VAR or it takes a years hiatus and an acceptable fix is found.

    • @samoke4527
      @samoke4527 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@chrishoward3391 I don’t think it has let us down persay, but I think it’s not as accurate as it can be and the whole point of VAR was being accurate with decisions. The frame rate alone isn’t high enough on the cameras used so when checking for offside the ball is elongated across 4/5 frames making it near enough impossible to know when the ball has accurately left the foot. Automated offsides will make the offside line 10x more accurate so I have no worries on that front. But the main reason I think we should wait until the technology is better is because if we implement A.I into VAR it’s going to make decisions more accurate, less opinionated and the speed at which they are being made will remove the 2/3 minute waiting time to make a decision.
