I know God loves me even if someone else doesn't. God loves you when noone else does. I am not perfect. God has been trying to help me and I have faith in God, He will help his children. Love you and God bless!

Sometimes..it is God trying to tell you something. I was born into a church and I never felt like I fit in. The feeling would be a vague nagging feeling to fear and panic sometimes. . I persisted for 47 years because the titled men in that church told me it was the only Right thing to Do. I learned later that God Did want me Out of that church. It was very Hard. I was so indoctrinated and thought God hated me if I didn't go to that church. It was not the catholic church..but a church none the less. I have a very close personal relationship with Jesus now and He has not directed me to a church..though I have tried many. I liked the catholic church the Best..so we will see what happens!

I'm out of place no matter where I am or whom I'm with it kind of goes with me being an introvert. I tend to have difficulty socializing with people and making friends and I tend to keep to myself and my family.
I'm actually surprised that I have a wife and children.

Father Mike, thank you so much for this video, I really needed this. I have always had issues fitting in but since I've been a Catholic since April 2017, I have been trying to fit in and in my mind that is trying to be like someone that I feel is a good person. As you said, I can't be like someone else, this is why I always fail. I must be me, if people don't like me, I have to simply except that. Every time I find myself trying to be what I am not, I am going to come back and watch this video. Maybe in doing this, I can become a better me, instead of trying to be someone else. God Bless you!!

Whenever I joint a new church (I've moved a lot), I've found the best way to fit in is to pitch in. Just start being useful, and get into small groups to get to know others. It's not a guarantee to always fit in but interacting with others helps you to know them, and soon enough you have new friends. Thanks again Father Mike, for a lovely video. Say a prayer for me, I desperately need a job!

I would not want to hold the cup or wafer unless I was given the right to do so.

To me comparison is one of those things that's natural and meant to be helpful, but can easily be perverted into sin.
    Comparison to others is envy/pride
Comparison to who you desire to be leads to despair.
Comparison to who you were yesterday is honest, and is a helpful tool for growth.
If you're unhappy with the change in who you are from yesterday, fix it. If you are happy with the changes made in you since yesterday, continue.

I like a good amount of it but dont want to feel forced to fit in with it or do anything else like folk, rock or ambient music which I also love. But Im starting slowly and have my wifes support.

I know people keep saying about the verse of "a hand cannot say to the foot", but I can't help but feel like an appendix in the body. I really don't know where I belong in my church, especially since it is like a "family church". The main populations are people in their mid-40s to early 50s and their teenage/young adult children. Can't fit in with the latter because they all grew up in youth ministry together and don't bother talking to new people, while the older adults grow are too busy with their own stuff.

Father Mike, I grew up catholic but stopped going to church in my early 20,s. I would attend for Christmas Mass or family gatherings with nieces or nephew receiving statements. However, for years essentially just stopped going. Four years ago I joined another church, but two years ago had a crisis of faith and recently left that church. I wanted to know what is the process of returning to catholic church.

So upsetting when I follow Catholics because I am concerned about issues and they start sending me information about certain politicians, assuming that as a Catholic I am for the same politicians as they are, when to me those politicians are so devoid of brotherly love.

Derek Handson The church is beautiful. People in the church sometimes do messed up things. The Church is beautiful. I completely understand not being happy with people in your parish, I myself am not happy with certain people in my parish, but I invite you to ask the Holy Spirit to remind you and help you recognize her beauty. 💕

I’m 31 and everyone at my church is 60+. The Catholic Church doesn’t have many young people coming though unfortunately. None of my friends my age attend, I feel like the Church will be empty in 20 years when the current older generation of congregation is gone. I'm in Australia for context.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing that. It sounds like it may depend on region? I'm in a university town, lots of young people and families with children (maybe fewer at daily Mass, haha -- but they're definitely there on Sundays!). Please be encouraged -- as I imagine your fellow churchgoers are encouraged to see you there (and as a new young churchgoer might be encouraged to see you there).

Hey, as a fellow 30-something-year-old Aussie who is thinking of coming back to Catholicism, I want you to know that there are others around our age out there in the Church - and in some places, quite a lot! I know that doesn't help you on Sundays but maybe there is an online community to help... or the potential to start one! :) I live in a capital city, so I realise it's a bit easier for me to say, but be encouraged, you have brothers and sisters out there! God bless you!

J D that’s good to know, I’m in Perth, it seems that most people our age, if they do go to church, go to the non denominational type churches that have the live bands and pastors preaching etc, that seems to lose the sacredness of worship for me. All the best in your journey!

Hey @Father Schmitz, I'm 16 years old and I go to mass alone usually, I have an extremely harsh time fitting in at my parish because of my age and feel envious of my friend Brian because of his really tight knit parish. Do you have any tips on breaking the ice?

  • @jameskirchner

This talk didn't seem to cover what it initially promised to. What if your local parish actually is a closed society where, for example, people who are not married and into football are not spoken to? Or what if they designate the demographic category required to attend all activities in such a way that certain people are always excluded? Let's say they're always for "single Catholics 18 to 35 years old" or "dads" or "couples". Many people who are over 35 and not married are always shut out. Then your problem is not envy, but the parish's only semi-conscious shunning of people who are not like them. God forbid you're over 35, unmarried and carry all your stuff in a garbage bag!
