I thought that was funny too. Also the way Mary-Ann seemed to have to hold onto and lean on the rail to keep from falling over laughing at poor Tonys' nuts getting crushed.

Australia's premier racetrack, Flemington Racecourse, was opened in 1840 - just five years after Melbourne was established. It has held the world's richest handicap race, The Melbourne Cup, since 1861. Prize money last year was $4.4M with a $250,000 trophy for the winner. Why am I mentioning this famous and spectacular racecourse in Australia? The area adjacent to it, is called Newmarket, and one of the Group One races there is called the Newmarket Handicap. Co-incidence? After watching this show, I think not... 😀

Wow! In the USA, we look at a MacDonalds built in the 1950's and think we're seeing history. In England, a toy shop built in a building form the 1700's doesn't seem old enough as history!
In the UK, 100 miles is far. In the US, 100 years is old.
Same in Russia. Our history is very very old. After I moved to the US, I was shocked that buildings that are only 100 years old are fairly rare as they knocked them down for even newer buildings.
I have a mate in Croydon who thinks it's hilarious that here on the West Coast 1850 is old.
I learned that lesson watching Antique Roadshow, an amazing difference.
The USA in its current form is just over 200 years old. So we still have Similac on our breath.
Every time Mary Ann Ochata is on, I stop watching. I can't stand her simpering, and her pseudo knowledge. Pure window dressing.

Believe it or not most times once the horse is lead to stable door they'll walk right in to their stall. Especially if their buddies on either side are in there.
The English brought it back they didn't create horse racing first. That started in Central Asia 4500 years ago.
I love how the guys are all saying that the back of the toy shop isn’t old at all. Then a minute later says it only dates to the 1700s.

I really enjoyed watching the gentleman in the digger or whatever you call it. He looks to be saying, "have they found anything yet?"
Ian Barclay is the digger operator equivalent to a neurosurgeon. He's all pro. When he's not looking on with that stoical expression, he's having a cuppa or a quick snooze. That's so he's ready to skim off the soil in centimeters.

Most racing horses are of the Arabian breed, meaning that is the breed's point of origin. Since they were bred for their speed, it stands to reason that they were raced, back in the day. Millennia before a horse ever set foot in England. So the claim of "oldest racing stables in the world" seems a little bit of a reach. Other than that, good fun with the ponies.
There were racing stables in India a few thousand years ago :)

@Brisdad53 -- What's funny is that I have horses and don't even ride, LOL. My wife does, but I prefer the side-by-side when running around the ranch. Remote eastern Oregon here.

They changed the format of the show a bit. They eliminated Stewart and Victor😢. They brought on Ochota for no obvious good reason ~ I hate to say it~other than her looks( although I understand that she is trained in archaeology.) Mick quit out of frustration and was upset that he wasn’t consulted. He claimed that they “dumbed down “ the show. It’s a shame. There’s a beautiful tribute to Mick where Tony talks about some of this.

Yes, the archeology in and of itself is really interesting because I an interested in history, but Mary-Anne, horses aren't possessions. They are living, breathing mammals - just like we are. Race horses are pushed until their lungs bleed or they break a leg and are killed. Race horses are NOT possessions. That is such a disgusting idea. I used to be involved in the office sweep for the Melbourne Cup until one year I got my money back because my horse collapsed and died. The following year 2 horses were killed at the Cup. Since then I have paid more attention to what these horses are actually put through. It is appalling and horse racing needs to be stopped. Yes, I really liked dressing up and wearing a pretty hat and drinking lots of bubbly but that is not even close to a good enough reason to put these horses through what we put them through. You might say - 'Oh, but I am not responsible for that". If you support horse racing, then yes you are and you need to be grown up enough to own that.
As soon as I see the new co-host I just switch off to another season.

Until I started watching more British shows I didn't realize horse racing was such a big thing there, while it may have some large events, in most places in the U.S. it is far away from pop culture, a real sub-culture lifestyle, the whole geegee's bookies thing seems more pop-culture in the U.K. Oddly enough I have known two people who owned race horses in the U.S. you never would have guessed would have cared about horses or any sort of racing. 17:00 The horse looks more real than the on in the close ups with Toby McGuire in sea-biscuit.
My parents attended the horse races in Portland, OR in the 1960s. Two $2 bets were all they could afford unless they happened to win. I found the paddocks more interesting than the race course (idle most of the time between races). I picked more winners from watching the horses warm up than they did from their betting papers, but I was too young to bet. Later I became a stable boy in a race horse breeding barn. Lotta work, and my view of horses is that they bite, kick, stomp, and mash you against the walls. Nasty creatures. Should have left them wild.
