    Thank you. I've seen so many people in public bathroom either not washing hands, washing hands without soap, or not washing them thoroughly that it is no wonder this virus is spreading fast.

    Thank you! I’m a nurse, working at the bedside. Hospitals and emergency rooms are shooting these patients right out the door and into rehab rehabilitation hospitals. Everything you discussed is going to help me at work on my next shift. Particularly the asymptomatic norovirus that tests positive for CDF But it’s not tested for norovirus. Also, handwashing vs hand jell is great information. I’ve already shared this on my FB page and with some coworkers.

    I understand the PCR was never intended for diagnosis. All it does is identify fragments of the genetic material they are looking for. If they cycle it too many times which was early c19, like 30 anything will be diagnosed with something. Like fruits, etc. LOL. Washing hands is more important than anything. I wash my hands as soon as I get home from somewhere. I try to keep my hands away from my face which is really hard. Old RN here. Take care!

      Hi. I hope the below helps
      qPCR can be used to CONFIRM diagnosis not 'make' a diagnosis. qPCR is highly specific for the intended nucleic acid target. Increasing the number of cycles in any qPCR will not allow detection of 'anything'. A postivie qPCR and ANY cycle number is better than a 99.999% indication that the target nucleic acid sequence is present in the sample. A high Ct number means there are FEWER target nucleic acid sequence in the sample compared to a lower Ct number.
      For reference RT-qPCR is required to detect RNA sequences, such as those found in SARS-CoV-2 or Norovirus. No matter how many cycles are run a SARS-CoV-2 RT-qPCR test will not detect Norovirus and a Norovirus RT-qPCR test will not detect SARS-CoV-2.

    My wife picked up a respiratory virus just before Christmas with diarrhea and vomiting then I got it on Christmas then just after new years eve I got the norovirus and started to recover then she got the norovirus and has it right now.
    Each had their own types of vomiting and diarrhea.
    Hopefully we are both having the same virus now otherwise it will be rotating through us causing loss of work and wear and tear on our bodies.
    I'm 65 and it was a little tough with the norovirus.

    Is it right that hand gels are ineffective against norovirus? That soap and water is the only effective hand washing regimen and bleach the only effective surface cleaner?

    • @WhiteboardMedicine
      @WhiteboardMedicine  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      Per the guidance out there, hand gels are not as effective as hand washing! We can’t say for sure that bleach is the only effective surface cleaner, rather it is the most* effective. And of course only use as directed

    Hi great video thank you!
    Norovirus genome is RNA. It can therefore be detected using RT-qPCR (or RQ-PCR). These are the correct terms that should be used for quantitative amplication of RNA sequences.
    Please don't refer to RT-PCR as 'real-time PCR'. 'real-time PCR' is old terminology is often misleading, and can cause confusion. RT-PCR should only be used to decribe reverse transcription PCR, which is a none quantitiative method for specific amplification of specific RNA sequences. qPCR is the term that should be used to describe quantitative PCR of DNA sequences.
