Singing after Begum Akhtar is her student Shanti Hiranand who, for nearly five decades, kept the music of her legendary Ustad alive. Reporting her death on 10th April 2020 'The Hindu' stated: "With the passing of Shanti Hiranand, the Begum Akhtar era is formally over. She was our last tangible link to the legendary artiste." Their era may be over but they have left their souls on earth in the form of their music. Begum Akhtar's singing will always be alive in our hearts!
