Imo the more we force ourselves to make beats/loops, the more we make mid music
Not saying we should make a beat every three months, but making 7 beats from scratch everyday will have the opposite effect of the “practice makes perfect” model
For me, we simply have to find the right balance between quantity and quality
Again this is my opinion, not saying it's THE TRUTH, might be just me

Love your comment. Simply making as many beats as possible doesn't necessarily achieve what you are looking for or even what others are looking for. Keep creating to find what you like and what you dont like. Why you like something and why you dont like something. Hone in on loving what you are making as much as possible. Hope this method allows you to cut through trial and error in a seemingly less tedious way. :)

Love this! I used to think I was wrong for creating less but it’s how I made my best work and that enabled me to get to where I am now

I see what you're saying and I agree to a point, in that there is clearly a different, "lesser" power to inspiration that we force versus the inspiration that comes to us unexpectedly like a blessing, illuminating the mind and stoking the flames of passion. Forcing it feels draining, while receiving true inspiration feels like being brought back from the dead, absolutely revitalizing, and yet I'd argue that waiting for inspiration to strike is too unreliable because it ignores the fact that the more we dilligently work on our craft without depending/waiting on inspiration, the more it reveals itself to us, which kinda feels like the muses rewarding the worthy.
If anyone resonates to some degree with what I'm clumsily trying to say here, or simply is concerned with the question of inspiration and the eternal quest to attain it, I highly recommend the book "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. It's a short and efficient read and is what I'd consider to be the best and only book on the subject that an artist will ever need, a true life changer

I own a well-equipped production studio, yet I found myself losing the motivation to create music. Recently, I've returned to regular gym workouts, and it's during these sessions that I've noticed an increase in your content. By the time I finish my treadmill routine, your insightful posts have reignited my creative spark, inspiring me to experiment with new ideas and push my musical boundaries.

One other cool thing you can do that I just did yesterday:
You make one arrangement and put a bunch of loops in. Then make another arrangement and put the loops from there into the same mixer tracks as the ones in the first arrengement and just go wild in the 2nd one. Hell, I put portal on the master. Then go back to the first arrangement and vibe.

How I look at it: Drums and instruments. So the steps of "lead, chorus, arp, pluck, etc" all fit in the same category. The only way I look at it is starting with either drums or instruments, so it doesn't feel like im doing anything different if I decide to start with instruments today and drums tomorrow.

if an idea isn't taking after say 2-3 hours I'll usually just stop there and cut it, either move on to something else, another idea or take a break until I feel like coming back. Could be days, weeks even a month or two. Then randomly out of nowhere I'll sit down for 20 mins and cook up the best thing I've ever heard like it was nothing and everything I pick straight off the rack fits perfectly and I can't seem to make a wrong decision. Those moments are the best feeling in the world. Don't forget to take breaks guys, it can be the best decision in disguise.
