I always find that ArtistWright's prompt and perfect technical directions keep me on the expressway to Affinity Designer updates. No endless roundabouts here. I'm always enchanted by a landscape of delicious, graphic illustrations - somewhat of a joy-ride for me. Thanks ArtistWright.
@@ArtistWright Your welcome. I have not created the Nordic Lights in Affinity Designer, however, perhaps I should do this. I am currently using Designer and Publisher for my book on how to prepare yourself to see the Northern Lights and get the most out of your tour. All Graphs, assets, etc. I use in my book, I have crafted from scratch. And I have made a few :-) But thanks your perfect tutorials, I have learned so much, that this creation of art became much easier. I am not sure whether you have this on the channel - writing text along curves, in circles, with and without offset... would be nice to learn more about that. I understand some basics, but I am sure that there is much more you can do. Else, I hope that AD comes with 1 and 2 points perspective grids. Shouldn't be a big problem, but this would be a very nice add on.
Thanks, That sounds like an excellent book! And in regards to your question about text on curves, I have some this in one of my tutorials in the past. I might make an updated one though. The problem with my videos is I cover so many things in one video and the title of the video might not be related to one of the smaller sections. In future Ill make specific videos so it's easier to search.
@@ArtistWright I have actually a request for another tutorial. Is there a chance you can create a tutorial about "Vanishing Point" Perspective grids? I know in Affinity Photo you can do something with Live Perspective Projection. In AD we have the Isometric grid and you can change it parameters to get a more vanishing grid. Would be great to see a tutorial with a workaround on how to create vanishing perspectives in AD easy. And explain the Grid and Axis settings in great detail. Perhaps an odd question, but would be very helpful. Cheers, and keep up your excellent work. - Hendrik
Hey hey, Loving these tutorials, Ive been looking for a tutorial whereas I convert an image to SVG and I end up with thousands of layers, and example is say I have a png of a farm image with several animals in the scene, but I want to take out the chicken & maybe cow & use them in a project. WHat are the quick ways of grabbing the chicken without grabbing say an overlapping barn door in background & grass tufts, is there a way to cut out the vector or snap to it in that mode. So basically a tutorial on how to work with vectorized images & to work around prepping it to use elements from within or to be able to grabs elements / features & move them to the right angle or copy that element & remove for another project. All remaining vectors. Didnt know if a tutorial of how to get to work on a converted image into Vector & a better understanding of all these parent sets like some are converted to colour parents & others shapes ontop of shapes, some layered, some just remove shape & nothing underneath just transparent . Hope this kinda makes sense.
Hi there and thanks for watching. So ofcourse as we can't automatically vectorise in Affinity, we have to do it in another piece of software. There are many out there, some give you the option to limit the number of colours used. When I vectorise a pen drawing I choose only 2 colours, that way I'm left with fewer layers (black and white). When I don't do that I end up with a million layers like you know, it's difficult to grab the object you want. one way to get around this is also to just trace around ( eg the chicken) with the pen tool and place all the layers within that layer.
I noticed that the pop up panel/window for the alignment feature is a little fuzzy on your screen and it is as well on mine, I will report it in the forums if it hasn't already been... Also the new make same features are apparently only available if you have the single alignment button in the upper tool bar. I generally use the strip of alignment option buttons for quick one click aligning and was wondering where the new feature was hiding...
Hi Kevin, actually a few of my icons are a bit fuzzy on my external display (only 1920x1080 the one I record my tutorials on). I can't actually remember if the icons are like that on my Macbook pro screen funnily enough.i think it's a problem with scaling on external displays that aren't at least 220ppi. I'm still trying to decide which external screen to upgrade to. What is affinity like on a 4k screen etc. should I go for the studio display (5k) blah blah. What do you use?
I am nearing the end of my current setup, using an old iMac desktop with a 27 inch display. Runs great but definitely not 4k. That being said that panel and especially those 3 new icons are fuzzier than any other icons in the existing UI. On my iPad they look fine and sharp. I will check my newer laptop later to see if it's just my old monitor or not. @@ArtistWright
❔ Please do you have any tips for downloading and installing add ons, after this update? The update worked fine, but when signed into serif account and trying to put on new add ons, it froze the program. Kept saying downloading them installing but never completed. Pls do you have any tips to resolve this?
Hi there, inside affinity Designer have you also looked at your account in the top right to see your address ons? You can choose to install all of them or just the add ons you want to install
Wish they would put features on the UI, not just on arbitrary and forgettable hot keys! For example, that right to left distribution option could easily be a tickbox on the existing drop-down. So much more discoverable! They could have done selection of the key object this way too - have a button you press then click on the object.
so for dxf dmg export. I tried to export to Shapr3d on ipad, it will import simple vectors. but i’m having trouble with text, or text converted to curves. it opens but says the layers is empty. just if you use Shapr3d too? if so, do you know what is causing this? is it a setting i need to change when exporting as dxf dmg? thanks
Dare I say that it seems to me that the new alignment features are not far off from a working blend tool. I would love to see the next iteration of this maybe being the ability to add or subtract objects and adjust the spacing between them. ie: you have 2 lollies with a space between them and have the ability to fill or copy instances of those lollies between them with a way to adjust the number of instances... a boy can dream. 🙂
Serif manages to get some things right but they always manage to just overlook something else. Distribution of objects is cool, but you can't distribute to a key object? LOL Why? So the first time I'm trying to use it, I'm wondering why auto distribution is checked and can not be unchecked. After wasting time, I realize that if I select a key object then the option to distribute to that object is disabled. With no key object selected, it simply distributes to the object on the far left. I can't distribute to the object on the far right. I had a ton of objects that I needed to make the same size, then distribute. Making them the same size was great, but I had to head back to Illustrator to do the distribution part. Also, it makes no sense that it's not just a regular palette. So to use these alignment features we need to first open the palette every time, and it automatically closes every time. So it's a extra, pointless step. In Illustrator it's a palette that I keep permanently open because I use it a lot. It just makes sense.
I'm not sure what you mean, you can distribute to a key object like I show in the video. Also you can distribute from there right as I did in the video. Also like in my video you can resize other objects based on a key object.
@@ArtistWright To make it simple, the problem is that when you select a key object, the Auto Distribute box can not be unchecked. It's greyed out So I have 4 square shapes on my screen with a little space between them. If I select them all, then open the alignment panel, I choose distribute horizontally and importantly, I can unselect "auto distribute". The objects will align to the object on the far left with no space between the objects. That is my goal, but I want them to align to the object on the far right, not the far left. That is where you run into a problem. In order to do what I just did, I needed to uncheck auto distribute box. But, if I want to align to the object on the far right, I need to select the object on the far right as a key object. But, when you select a key object, the checkbox for "auto distribute" is greyed out. And that box needs to be unchecked for it to work. So, it is impossible to distribute horizontally to the object on the far right, with no space between the objects. When you select a key object, "auto distribute" greyed out and can not be unchecked.
I don't understand why the developers of this program are procrastinating in downloading an update that supports languages that write from right to left?
