43 years of truck driving experience here. I am impressed that you think about driving a truck when you are doing it. Slowed a bit to get the tail gator to pass you and staying in the passing lane until the truck you passed had sufficient following distance. Following distance will solve most of your problems before they happen. When there is light traffic and a truck passed me, I’d move to the passing lane to see far ahead. If all drivers could think like you, it would be a much safer profession.
As a retired truck driver the best advice I can give is invest in a mini fridge, an electric stovetop, a nice TV/computer, a small grill for summer, adblocker for listening to things on youtube, A dehydrator for fruits and meats. Use truck stops for showers, laundry, and socializing. But don't give in and buy their over priced stuff. Plan your comfort accordingly. It's key for the long haul. Drive safe. Love from Wisconsin!

I see you have an android phone. You’ve gotta get Smart Truck Route 2. $15/mo, and it uses Google maps but integrates truck routing. It’s gotten me all over the US and haven’t gone back to Garmin or Rand. It’s super useful because you can see next stop info and final destination info (like eta and distance) on 1 screen, and of course it has satellite view and you can drop a pin and route directly to that pin, like if you use satellite view to find the entrance, then you can route directly to it. One thing I hated about variant was, for me it was strictly forced dispatch. If I declined a load, they would force it on me automatically, and they expected me to take late night loads or leave and didn’t care that I’m tired at night and work during the day. I actually went to variant and left them twice.
Mad respect to you! I don’t think the truck slowed down. 65-68mph is a 3mph difference. For a 53ft trailer, would be 12seconds, plus the tractor plus the following distance you closed in. I only say this because I’m a slower driver and try to give truckers a wide berth. But I like your narrative and I’m subbing! Also I like to signal when it’s ok to get in front of me, but not sure if everyone does or likes that.
very interesting content. As someone who spends a lot of time on the road and encounters truckers frequently, it's interesting to see everything that goes through your head while piloting this behemoth through the uncertainty that is the roadway. I could drive all night in my 20s… I loved driving at night with the truckers because they drove professionally and everyone was talking, even with lights.
I was a US Army Reservist in a trucking unit. This was in the 1980s. We had the M915A1 tractors with a 400 HP turbo diesel engine and an Allison 5-speed automatic transmission. We had tri-axle stake and platform trailers. The governors were set at 60 mph. We would drive these rigs to Annual Training each year from Michigan. One year before we got those new trucks they shipped us and our old off-road trucks to Germany for an exercise. When we got the new M915A1s in 1984 we would go to Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia, Kentucky etc. Every once in a while we would get a Hands on Training (HOT) Mission. We would volunteer for the HOT missions and convoy from Grand Rapids, MI to places such as Bayonne, NJ, St Louis and such, hauling loads for the government. Had a lot of fun and it was a break from my civilian job as a computer operator. I would not want to be a full time trucker though as it got old after a few days. After I left the unit they were called up for Desert Storm where they hauled mostly bombs. One tractor was destroyed when it hit a wayward camel!. No one from the unit was seriously injured or killed during their time there thank goodness. Be well brother and thanks for doing your valuable job!

Wow a young driver that knows how to use an Atlas and has common sense. Maybe there is hope. Retired 2 years ago at age 70 after 50+ years chasing the lines doing Heavy Haul just under 5 million miles.
Drove for 7 years. At first I thought I making good money. One day I calculated hours I'm working, and money I making, my monthly expenses on maintenance and other fees,... realized I'm no better than kid working for McDonald's. It was 4 years ago, don't know what they pay per load today. I know truck I drove then is 80k more expensive to buy today.
I remember when I was in my 1st month of trucking, I decided to pass a truck from my same company (we were both regulated at 69 MPH but I seemed to gain on him ever so slowly). I waited for a while until the coast was clear but it ended up taking me 16 minutes to pass him. Needless to say, by then there were a whole bunch of angry motorists behind us and I'd missed my exit.
In Europe as the one that got passed, you flash your high beams to tell the faster truck that he can switch back to the right lane. Greetings from Cologne, Germany.
You do that at night in the States you'll likely get flashed back by rearward facing cargo lights!! I Especially HATE A$$Hats that HighBeam me at night 🖕🖕🖕is my response to that practice.

Thank you to Trucker for introducing this video. While watching this video, I was surprised that driving is hard work, contrary to my expectations. So I'm glad to know that through this video. I can see how hard it must have been for the truckers from driving preparation to arriving at their destination.
It's amazing you're videos. Some are very knowledgeable and some are a contradiction to what ur saying about being responsible and respectful of truck stops. You're only 23 yet ur on ur third trucking company? Interesting
Keep it up mister ! You seem pretty knowledgeable for your time in the seat. I just had to get off the road due to back surgery. Started in 1972 and it's been a hell of ride. As I said ,keep it up & never stop learning. Be safe & carry on.
I’m a Canadian trucker and started going into the states recently and noticed the on and off ramps absolutely suck. You have no space to properly enter or exit without disturbing traffic in most cases. I’m so use to plenty of space in Canada and it’s a weird adjustment.
A lot of difference between truckers in a large land mass country than a small city state like where I am from. In Singapore, we truck containers short distance, and we do work round the clock, but in a normal day, we truck around 10-15 containers (aka trips), from the port to customer’s location, from port to the container yard, or from yard to customer’s place, and vice versa. And most of our trucks are single-axle.

I call it the snail race.
Keep on trucking, buddy. You are the truth ❤
I was taught to turn your light on and off once they are at a clear distance.
@@darrellhall6622 Exactly!!! Especially at night, daytime I don't mind if they use highbeams, especially in inclement weather.
Could absolutely, never do your job, props to you man.
Hey there handsome, how are you doing today?
WOW this video on it's own made me subscribe. Ever since I was a child I have always had an interest in what truckers do. This video gives viewers a real ''Fly On The Wall'' experience of what it is really like on the road. Good luck to you kid / fast becoming a 'Real Man'. I look forward to more and hello from my channel here in Ireland to you over there 👍
Hey Alex 👋 be safe out there 💛
Alex I am a former CHP Officer, Truck Driver, Safety Director and retired from the USDOT/FMCSA. I am impressed with your professionalism. GoodJob. Stay Safe.
Blows my mind you can go 68mph, over here in the UK we are limited to 56mph on motorways.
For artics?
@@Jakers457 yes sadly and don't matter how fully loaded you are. Imagine struggling to overtake going up the hill
The US is vast: going 56mph you’d be stuck just in one state per day
Texas is bigger than Europe, lol....
@@jstring depends on the state.
I really enjoy your trucking vlog with you being yourself while taking me along the trip to see the beautiful country of be America. Kudos to you man, great work on your our channel.
IF only you know the future says, you, I'm know that indeed crypto currency and forex trade is the future, investing in it now will be the wisest thing to do.
You're right
That is why I had to start forex trading 2months ago with expert Jackson Williams and now am making benefits from it. .
Natural, there’s a lot of math involved in cryto trading and forex trading,
but this is often presented in forms of daunting technical charts, indicators, patterns.
Trading systems allow you to limit the factor of emotional influence on decision-making,
Truly a professional driver. Much respect!
Who knew trucking could be so entertaining lol
You are “carrying” a lot of responsability. Stay safe and God bless…
Alex thank you man thank you! 🥹 Question, my dad was a trucker and one of my brothers is now a trucker. Funny part is my oldest brother is going to start his trucking school some time next year. Should I join in too or become a rebel and fly a plane 🤔🤔🤔
Alex am your peer from Africa based in Middle East and you really inspire me alot coz I wanna be behind them wheels someday over there 🙏
Sxb soo tahriib nin yahow maxaa ku dhigay meesha ..

15:50: “no Highway has 6 lanes”. Yeah. Say that to the New Jersey Turnpike which has 6 lanes one way and a total of 12 lanes from the Manhattan/Bronx line to NJ state line, to the I-95/NJ Tpke. Split.
This young man is in the top 1% of truck drivers in one year.
In what way?
@@loweredyote8416 He keeps calm, he slows down and lets people in. He drives safe in the world of Swifty Swift doing all the wrong things is all I need to see.
The backbone of America. Keep on trucking. 😁😊⛽🚘
You're not a trucker until you have at least a million miles under your belt. You have good intuition though. Keep it up, don't stop bro!!
Do I qualify, I've got over three million with the same company 🤔😕😁😁
Love the channel love the way you drive safety is always concerned you awesome love the countryside fresh air
Alex I don't know you but I'm damn proud of you son. Most 20 something men are lazy ass bums nowadays. We need .ore hard workers like yourself around👍
Nice man I’m 23 also and I’m considering becoming a truck driver too (this the first video on yo channel I ever saw)
Earning money is an action. Keeping money is behavior, but "growing money is wisdom." I found this out a week ago after getting a $10,000 return on my $3,000 investment in 7 days.
How?
@@kendrialparkson I invested with Expert , his the best.
£60,000 In just two weeks Mr.Thompson_tyler, is pretty amazing. There are still good people.
Same here, I started with $2,000 and am now making $8,300 in bimene profit with her trading program.
Excellent! Smart! 23 you got your act together. Keep up the good work.
Wow ur a smart driver for being 23 u got a lot of common sense
I love your videos 👍😊
Alex..I have to say that I recently discovered your videos. I adore them. You are so lovely, respectful and diligent. I have always wanted to drive the open road. And you give the accurate description I need to see it.
Keep up the great work..🇨🇦❤️🙏
wow - I genuinely thought you were a veteran and not a youngster - I do like your videos - please keep them coming!
My total respect for truck drivers. People don’t think about what these men & women do for our country. Thank you!!!!❤
I enjoyed your video . This truck is big and the voyage sound and noise on the road is extra . Well done young man , keep on driving .
This looks like so much fun.
It's like a constant adventure!!
I love this thing. it feels like a mind game, mostly when parking. You live more with the nature, the mountains. Its good for introverts.
Good luck to j on ur endeavors.. u seem like a kool guy.. n seem to enjoy ur job.. many blessings.. be safe
Keep on Truckin!
Interesting
i am on a 2 month grind of your videos I'm never tired of them.
Keep it up mister ! You seem pretty knowledgeable for your time in the seat. I just had to get off the road due to back surgery. Started in 1972 and it's been a hell of ride. As I said ,keep it up & never stop learning. Be safe & carry on.
Really capable video, it's motivating to youth like me and others.
Thats good driving for a young guy your age I'm impessed by your patience and logic. Great video
I’m a Canadian trucker and started going into the states recently and noticed the on and off ramps absolutely suck. You have no space to properly enter or exit without disturbing traffic in most cases. I’m so use to plenty of space in Canada and it’s a weird adjustment.
Enjoyed the video chap... excellent 👌
Hey there handsome, how are you doing today?
@@MarieRealon SMD???
I must say hats off to you truck drivers!! But this is the most boring job I could never do, driving all day
I know truck driver is supper good when i grow up am going to trucking
A lot of difference between truckers in a large land mass country than a small city state like where I am from.
In Singapore, we truck containers short distance, and we do work round the clock, but in a normal day, we truck around 10-15 containers (aka trips), from the port to customer’s location, from port to the container yard, or from yard to customer’s place, and vice versa.
And most of our trucks are single-axle.
Thanks for what you all do. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Your good driver Alex!!! Ty for all you do brother!!
