There's just something so charming and iconic with all of Don Bluth's animations. They're all so incredibly detailed, smooth and have stood the test ot time.
@kitsunek7335 honestly, I didn't know either. Only when I bought the Dragons Lair trilogy on steam. I remember 1 and 2 but never knew about this game tbh.
I never got to play Dragon's Lair in an arcade, but my dad had the PC version of the game when I was a kid. I remember dying so much in the game that I just gave up on it. I never got to play Space Ace though. I might have to try to see if I can find copies of these old games.
The legendary animator himself and one of my all-time favorites. His animated films were such a huge part of my childhood and what inspired me to take up drawing as a hobby.
Not to say it’s bad though. I think some of the reason why people had strong opinions on Bligh is due to how many movies he produced in the 90s. He is certainly one of the all time greats in animation
Great memories. I use to spend my weekends as kid mastering all these moves . I was so proud the day I got through it on one quarter and one guy. Now I play it on my phone..😂😂😂😂
Minus those moments where his larger body keeps him from getting hurt, I can't really understand the relevance of Dexter/Ace's transformation. He mainly fights with his blaster and not his strength.
I think his younger version is not his real version. From the context I saw at end I'm guessing he was de-aged by villain to make him vulnerable, maybe that's why he uses blaster because he is used to fight in adult for than a teenage form. I never play this game so I don't know much about the story. I only know about this thanks Don Bluth's art style in cutscenes .
The villain of the game, Borf, had an ultimate weapon he called the Infanto Ray. His goal was to conquer Earth by turning everyone into babies, rendering Earth defenseless.
I remember this game at the arcade in the 80's. It was too hard for a young lad like me. I stuck with Q-Bert, Star Wars, and Popeye mainly when it came to arcade games back in the day. At home, I had Zaxxon on the Colecovision. I could play Zaxxon for hours. My dad enjoyed Zaxxon too. He liked how the controls mimicked actual air plane controls where up on the stick was down and vice versa.
Thanks for the reminder, OF HOW INTENSELY ANNOYING THAT DAMN WOMAN WAS! The quarters I dumped into this and Dragons Lair back in the day. And in both I hated The Damsel. I never called her Kimmy, hated her that much. Constantly in need of rescue but never appreciated it when she was. 😖 So annoying. And Yeah, 15 yr old me took that personally. Silly, I Know! But still true.
Game was beautiful, but you had to have the patience of a Saint to get through it and the reflexes of a coked-out Mountain Dew bender to time it all right.
How do you even play this game? Like, do you press ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️ and space? Is it a 50/50 chance if the direction is at an angle and you got to choose one or the other?
@juanjosemendivil1626 yea, it's 4 directions plus the gun shooting. So according to the scene you gotta figure out which action input the game wants you to use. It was made to inhale quarters. It becomes memorization

@jonathanj.3695 yea for sure! I posted him actually drawing Dirk on my channel. It's on the same Playlist. I find it super soothing to watch
A lot of the moments from secret of nimh are seared into my brain. Nicodemus etc.
I love how he transforms to use the power of - not his massive muscles, but GUN.
Even now this doesn't look like a game I remember watching a friend play it
I used to watch the cartoon shorts of this on boomerang and never realized it was a game
@kitsunek7335 honestly, I didn't know either. Only when I bought the Dragons Lair trilogy on steam. I remember 1 and 2 but never knew about this game tbh.
This was the very first animated arcade game I played before Dragon's Lair 1 and 2.

Don Bluth.
The legendary animator himself and one of my all-time favorites.
His animated films were such a huge part of my childhood and what inspired me to take up drawing as a hobby.
The animation is gorgeous, puts to shame most modern garbo.
Because it was animated by Disney's chief animator Don Bluth
Don Bluth is polarizing. Many animators and animation fans really dislike his style for being too exaggerated.
Not to say it’s bad though. I think some of the reason why people had strong opinions on Bligh is due to how many movies he produced in the 90s. He is certainly one of the all time greats in animation
Well the blocking and editing are pretty much crap.
QuickTime game before QuickTime games - and before instructional arrows on the careen. You just had to know which way to press and when to do it.

Let's be honest here, in that time that was the closest to porn-like.
I had this for the SNES.....boy was it hard.

Another banger from my boy Donny B. Love this legendary animation.
So retro, I remember trying to play the castle one

I didn't know that! Makes sense though!

You just helped me complete a life long goal... beating that game! Thank you!! And Kimmy's kind of a hottie! lol
@@BatBrisco nice!
I spent SO many quarters learning to play that game on "Ace" mode. Now I still know every beat and nuance by heart. Such an interesting piece of work.
@@hpotter29 hell yea!

The attract reel for the arcade showed that Ace took a hit from Borf's Infanto Ray. That's what made him de-age into little Dexter.
Also, except for the final battle with Borf, you could play the entire game without transforming into Ace.
Energized with Wizard Ale.
I ABSOLUTELY can't believe it 🤯❗ I ABSOLUTELY want more of it, but I don't think I can 😢⁉️
I doubt we ever will, now that Don Bluth is old and out of business. It would be nice though, if we did get more of his cool 2D animated games.
Classic good times! This goes for about 8:00 longer than I could ever get to in the game 🤣
I can't watch this without thinking of the JonTron video.
I feel like the sound designer did not do the animation justice.
Nothing but a quarter eater…
Far out
I was able to complete Space Ace but never finished Dragon's Lair (got close but not finished). They were fun games, and I loved the animation.
I remember that in my childhood pamper days 80s and 90s 😍

I'm going to need a compilation of just the energized scenes for... reasons...
The scenes inside the space station remind me of the Valkyrie in Titan AE.
