Yup, game is a gem for real.
I remember when it was coming out i played the demo with my gf being a completely new player, we slayed the narga and she was so happy, so we decided to buy Gen and we finished it together.
It was amazing letting her experience MH almost the same way i did back in F2 because of all the old maps, and pokke village

If you want a default armor set that will carry you- the best I can say is use the Bu-ja-bu-ja-bu set. It's bulldrome and jaggi, and the name actually tells you what pieces to make, starting with the Bulldrome helm. It gives you max attack for low rank, which is really nice!

Monster hunter often doesn't do this type of drastic changes when it comes to gameplay, much less giving us a brand new character class with their own mechanics.

About Charge Blade! You *can* still charge it in one go, but you have to do it a little bit differently. Rather than do it from the shield thrust, you have to switch to axe form, go to do a AED/SAED and then charge the shield. So R + X to go axe, then X + A to go into the AED/SAED animation, then R to charge the shield in one go. Quite a lot clunkier than 4/World/Rise style but is still possible.
Will be super interesting to see this pledge progress btw, great stuff!

    • @Stratelier
      @Stratelier 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Aside: in Adept CB, you activate red shield mode _exclusively_ by countering after doing the special Adept Guard against a monster's attack, anything less only gives you yellow shield mode (if anything at all).
Valor CB meanwhile introduces a blue shield mode.

Valor GS hands down. It’s also perfect to learn about the mechanics of valor style.
    Quick intro to valor style.
The general idea of valor is your weapon and move set is nerfed until you build the valor gauge, then your weapon and move set gets super buffed. In other words you start at 70% power and then unlock 200%.
Valor sheath, the sheath takes longer but when you sheath your weapon you can hold it or cancel it into a valor attack. Valor attacks build up your valor gauge faster. If you are hit while in valor sheath (while facing the attack) then you will automatically preform a valor dodge. You do take reduced damage but you slide back and sheath your weapon pretty quick.
Valor is awesome, GS and HBG benefits most from it, pretty much every weapon gets cool new moves but CB gets a phial loop for its second and third axe phial attacks.

    • @invertbrid
      @invertbrid 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Valor indeed best in game, especially for speed runners, maybe except that lance running thrust playstyle which use guild iirc.
Valor GS is fun and strong, valor LS is like more modern LS with counters, valor HBG is insane spamming ammo lol.

    • @jamesproctor4568

There are things you can only really learn from some very specific weapon type specialists whom have been pushed down by the algorithm in favor of names like these: their popularity is a negative correlation with their efficacy.

Striker switch axe is one of my favorite weapons in this game though.
There is one art that makes you lose Charge over time instead of per hit, one that gives you some charge and one that refills some sharpness.

There's one gathering quest (if you haven't found it yet, I think it's in the Hub) where you'll NEED to read the quest description text to know where to find the target item.
And Great Maccao is best starter monster am I right?
MHGU was my second MH game (after MH4U) so here are my thoughts about each village included:
    - Bherna: A sleepy little hamlet, very fitting for the game's slow opening grind.
    - Kokoto: Even without playing MH1, this village feels wild and untamed but somehow also generally nostalgic, with a bright outlook.
    - Pokke: This mountainside retreat is cold but also warm and cozy ... like Seliana.
    - Yukumo: Feels more to me like a "waypoint" than a "hub", a nice place to _visit_ but not necessarily _stay._

This is hilarious - I JUST restarted a save on MHGU. I'm mostly playing GL right now, but maybe I'll try more. On my last few saves I always ended up playing prowler and ignoring all the weapons. One thing I'm absolutely with you on is the Switch Axe. I love SA, it was my first weapon - in 3U no less - but after hours upon hours in Rise and World, returning to old SA is very jarring. I need way more time with it. Which is funny, because GL fit like a glove, even after being used to the zoomy version of Rise and the swingy version of World. GL feels REALLY good here.
Can't wait to follow this journal.

GU really is such a good game. The celebration of the series so far, the absolutely bonkers monster count, styles to keep even weapons you've mastered fresh and new... what more could you want?
One of the biggest changes made to the Swaxe going in to World was loosening up its combo restrictions. It requires a bit more setup and flow to use certain attacks like the morph slash. A little bit of practice when you get back around to it, and it'll feel like home again.

Hey jay! the first thing you should build for your armor is to make one of the best starting low rank mixed set armor called "BuJaBuJaBu". Basically its a combination of Bulldrome and jaggi's armor parts which consists of:
    Bulldrome cap
    Jaggi mail
    Bulldrome vambraces
    Jaggi waist
    Bulldrome greaves
This armor gives you Attack Up (M) right off the bat which is pretty great until you reach LR lvl 5 to make rathalos armor.
As for the insect glaive, here's what you get for each color your kinsect collects (based on what i remember)
Red - attack damage and additional attack combo
White - makes you jump much higher
Orange - gives you earplugs as long as you have orange color on your IG.
Whenever using insect glaive getting those three colors is important.

There is also a unique prowler to GU so don't throw the baby out with the bath water.😅 (Seriously my Prowler run was the most fun run of this game - I played a run of every weapon while waiting for Rise and I will definitely say Prowler is viable & quite fun, completely changing how you play.)
Good luck with the Hunting Horn, as anyone coming from Rise & World get thrown through a loop with those, especially as it is a much slower weapon to set up your combos for but so damn satisfying 😊 throw a mushroom mancer set on with it and you'll have a ton of fun

Valor is the most broken, but needs the most understanding how to build up your valor gauge. Sheating your weapon (can also hold it to charge) grants a kind of evade that take some hp if you are hit
Once you get max valor gauge, your weapon moveset changes. Like getting a parry off the first spirit blade combo with longsword
Also get very fast / different evades compared to all the classses

I did the weapon rotation thing when playing rise. I didn't really like it that much, but I was changing every quest and not every 3 quests so I hope you like it. A problem you will encounter doing this is you will be running out of zennies quickly trying to get all the weapons at your current level. It's easier to collect the weapons once you already beat the game since you will have more money by then and grinding will be quicker.
My favorite way to play monster hunter was using a weapon for village low rank and another weapon for low and high rank multiplayer. Then for the expansion I would play another weapon for village high rank and another weapon for g-rank. Normally I would only pick a weapon I already know for G-rank. I also only picked ranged weapons for low and high rank multiplayer, because I mostly only liked playing them with other people as a support like role and I prefer the melee weapons for the harder stuff like g-rank.

One tip for extracts is to just shoot the bug point blank at where you want to hit.
Aerial style tip: once you launch, you can stop yourself from moving forward in the air by letting go of the directional stick. This helps maintain your position.
Great armor set is BuJaBuJaBu: bulldrome head, arm, legs and jaggi chest and waist. This set provides attack up L i believe

Hell yea! Glad to see you playing this installment!
Completely true on this game being the best one to learn all the weapons from. I finally learned how to use the last weapon I needed, HBG, in this game lol.
For the CB shield charge iirc its not that you need to charge twice, you need to charge it from Axe mode for Red Shield. The X+A shortcut just does a Yellow Shield Charge which is weaker. After getting Red Shield though the X+A shortcut should be okay for refreshing the duration.
I only really liked HBG using Valor Style since it has fast sheathing and a run.
The hardest adaptation for the Ranged weapons are definitely learning when to actually aim and just when to face your hunter to the weak point and shoot, specially in Old world games
And will you randomize the weapon line-up every pass?

One thing you should know about: Village works a tad different in this game than normal. There are no G-rank quests there. Instead, all the G-rank quests are relegated to the new hunter's hub. However, there are G-rank equivalent quests in village called "Advanced" quests. This is important because the hub quests are balanced around multiplayer while village is balanced around solo. The quests in village and hub are also separate, and you will find yourself needing to run through LR and HR hub after finishing all the LR and HR village quests. Like 4U, you have required quests and urgents to increase your rank, but this game also has a special type of monster called deviants that you need permits to hunt. You can get these permits from quests randomly, or buy them using points from one of the cats. Grinding these motherfuckers is miserable, and you should only do it if you really like one of their weapons or their armor. Their weapons get bonus hunter art builup rate, so picking one you like is important. Deviants introduced in Generations have like 10 or more quests while those introduced in ultimate have like 4 or 5.
The purpose of the village points are that you unlock quests the more you get, and you periodically get village tickets which are used to craft and upgrade special weapons, most of which are joke weapons. Also, don't use the cat weapons. They suck so much that it's actually unbelievable.
Charge Blade and Gunlance were neutered in this game, but CB is still good while gunlance is the worst it'll ever be, unfortunately. It plays more like pre-iceborne slaplance without anything cool than it does 4U's gunlance.
Don't forget to train your palicos. There's a whole raising system in the palico resort place to the right of berhna. If you don't train them they'll end up learning and using skills that are useless or even annoying to deal with. Learning how the system works is vital to having a useful palico. If you train one right, it can be an absolute monster in prowler mode that can outdo even some of the game's best weapons. Those being Valor LS and Valor HBG. Seriously, Valor HBG is so busted you can solo Fatalis with ease using it.
If I had a weapon rec, it would be Alchemy SnS. It's a weird combo but it works really well. You can use items with SnS out, and alchemy's whole thing is making OP items. SnS also has lots of good arts, and alchemy gives you three slots that you can all make SP, which also boosts alchemy. It's a huge feedback loop and it's really fun. Valor CB is underrated as hell and one of my favorite styles. Adept hammer is also fun if you like getting in revenge hits. Adept CB is good if your timing is perfect, as it lets you practically no-hit fights if you correctly utilize adept guards and guard points.
If you want to insist on using gunlance, I recommend either Striker, Valor, or Adept in that order. Striker because despite being bad, GL has some decent arts and striker gives you three slots. Valor has a cool shelling mechanic and makes shells valid again, which is why I play gunlance. It's hard to learn, though. Adept is just safe and reliable if you can hit adept guards. Just repeatedly counter the monster. Works well for aggressive ones.

Generations Ultimate truly is the apex of the franchise. The first thing I did in Generations was do all the of Training Quests, and I'm sure I was the first to do so. Playing it again from the beginning in Generations Ultimate, I did it again... all 114 Quests. Takes about 16 hours, swore I wouldn't do it again.
I did it a third time.
Initially, I wanted to 100% the game by doing and getting everything, but sadly, there just isn't enough box space to collect everything G-Rank. Still worth trying until you run out.
Even though I use all weapon types equally, Bow is one of the ones I gravitate towards, and Great Sword, away from. Bow is very inconsistent in all games really, but you won't see it in legacy games due to there being no damage numbers: it really does very little against certain Monsters with bad hitzones, and it needs to use its damage Coatings as much as possible to keep up, similar to the stronger Bowgun ammo. Once you get comfortable with the movement, you'll be able to maneuver while charging and perform snap shots on Monsters as they pass by, preferably quickly aiming at specific spots. Valor Bow is some of the craziest gameplay, especially if you know your Arc Shot interactions with Valor Style. Still wish trajectory aim was togglable.
Great Sword is slow and stiff; Aerial and Adept Styles are fast and fluid. Everything I dislike about Great Sword (which only Sunbreak has addressed, since) is solved with Aerial, IMO. Everyone complains the Aerial Charged Slash isn't as strong, but it's significantly easier to land, and more frequently. It's so consistent, in fact, you can use it with Repeat Offender or Punishing Draw, and quite successfully. They make it genuinely enjoyable, and I hope you have as much fun as I am, re-replaying it now, hoping to _actually_ get to the end and not re-restart so it'll never be over.

Switch Axe is still amazing, i love it in this game, Trust me though, go Valor or Arieal, the movesets for those styles makes it great. Endless attacking in Vlaor by spamming ZR when in the valor mode and when you have the soword out you get extra attacks vaulting off monsters in areial.
Forgot to mention, in Valor mode with demon riot, you can endless spam ZSDs and each ZSD does two explosions. Super fun

Technically Poke is only from Freedom 2 and Freedom Unite. MH2 had Jumbo Village.
Also, if you keep playing older entries, I absolutely recommend P3rd. It’s a really chill experience, not too hard, and has some really unique variations of mh staples. Like, instead of eating before doing a quest, you get in the Hot Springs and drink some tea.
It’s also has the last, and best imo, interactable farm. After P3rd every entry made farms basic menus.

Its a good thing this game is the first time you started using Insect Glaive and not in MH4U, In generations it had most of the QOL improvements we see in world. MH4U was particularly tedius to upgrade the Kinsect, and you HAVE to upgrade the Kinsect before you upgrade the glaive, and the Kinsect in MH4U was locked to its assigned Glaive and you couldn't transfer it to another glaive, and you have to collect TONS of extracts of different elements to upgrade the Kinsect. It did have probably the best on-paper customization for your kinsects in the series, but it taken ALOT to get it anywhere.

Switch Axe, uh, unless you're using a specific hunter art you basically never use the axe, to my understanding, it is my main, but i soend all my time running absolute teadiness, energy charge 2/3, and demon riot 3. Sharpen your weapon and dodge, refresh your sword gauge and get a boost to affinity, and stay in sword mode and fain a huge power boost. The bigger the level the bigger the effect, but the longer it takes to charge up so you're sometimes better off going with a lower powered art. Now, i say Sword Mode, really i mean Zero Sum Discharge spam. I used to be an aerial player, that's good for ZSD spam too but the 3 slots of striker really help.
Also of note is that this was easier in base generations where DR3 didn't deplete your sword gsuge as fast so going ec3 was a lot safer for charge uptime, snd a think ZSD was stronger there too.
I'm more experienced with base gen than my time in GU's G rank by quite a ways, so there's still a fair bit aboyt the DLC i don't know.

MHGU is the best MH for just having fun IMO, just try different combos of weapons'/styles/arts and don't worry about a "Meta" most MHGU players don't care much about Min/Maxing until the very hardest quests in the game anyways. When you do get to the Deviant Monsters and endgame in general Valor Heavy Bowgun with pierce shot is actually the highest DPS in the game if you end up caring about Min/Maxing at the end of your MHGU journey.

Chargeblade can be fully charged in on go I think. You just have to switch to axe mode first then do the AED cancel into shield charge. They one from Sword and Shield mode will refresh the duration iirc.
