I already watched this. Because I liked it so much I do not care I rewatch it. I do not like Alien movies. The real Alien is much less scay. This Alien is so cool my Aliens are nice but not cool at all.
Speaking as an American guy that watched this: what??? A comedy about tragedy and violence? So many things in this movie made no sense. Why does the alien keep cussing at the guy? Why is he so angry at the alien? Why do scenes randomly end and go to some other random place? Maybe it's a problem with the subtitles or me misunderstanding Chinese cultural clues, but this was weird. Great special effects and pretty funny regardless of the oddness of the story.
Paul McManus is right on the money - they themselves think their movies are kinda dumb. Tv series are a different matter, but not necessarily crash hot. ymmv, but try hua qian gu or princess agents (anything with zhao liying is at least worth a look)
New ideas and lessons to learn are reflected in the movie. Alien is there just for his research, as time goes by he gets too much involved in that humans life.
if you know the traditional one you just need two days max to get use to all new simplified version of Chinese characters. That is exactly my case, took me two days and I literally got it all in completely. Only two characters that I struggled are 头 and 显 which looks totally different and unrecognizable, otherwise the others are pretty straightforward and easy to memorize in word pairs.

The translations aren’t exactly right so you miss things.... literally “loss in translation”
