When the forests along the Amazon’s banks become submerged in over 10 metres of water, manatees, arapaimas and other riverine creatures take the cue to gorge themselves on the forest’s abundant resources and build fat reserves. These reserves will tide them over the dry season, when food is scarce.
Nestled between the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, the River Wonders (formerly known as River Safari) is both a river-themed zoo and aquarium. Singapore's newest wildlife park has over 6,000 animals, including 40 threatened species, with zones that replicate the habitats of rivers across the world, from the Mississippi to the Yangtze. It is the first of its kind in Asia and features freshwater exhibits and a river boat ride as its main highlights. It was built at a cost of S$160m, with an expected visitor rate of 820,000 people yearly.
