Marianna, in 2024 you became my go to person when it comes to movie recommendations and reviews. Very rarely I disagree with you, and when it happens, it's usually because of taste and perception, not because of the movie itself. Please, keep being great in 2025!
Thanks for "Ghostlight," which is still my favorite film of the year. I didn't realize it before seeing it, but the family at the heart of the story IS a real family - Keith Kupferer, Tara Mallen, and Katherine Mallen Kupferer are all busy actors in Chicago, and they're just brilliant here. I also loved "Tuesday," with a wonderful, serious performance by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, an unexpected fantasy element that balances the thoughtful meditations on death and grief, and, I'm not kidding, some of the best sound design of the year, starting with the first two minutes of the movie.
Love this video Marianna! Always enjoy your lists. Two movies that I think are severely underrated from 2024 are His Three Daughters and Fresh Kills. I didn’t see either on your Letterboxd. If you haven’t gotten around to them, you should!
@@ImpressionBlend I just hope he keeps getting opportunities to flex his creative chops, in front of or behind the camera. IMO, Monkey Man was the best action movie since the Raid 2.
Monkey Man was a brilliant take on the revenge action genre. Dev Patil outdid himself! Highly recommended! One you missed was Blink Twice. Not a ground breaking story, but an entertaining one, good acting as well by most of the lead actors
Loved La Chimera so much! Such a beautiful, unique cinematic voice Alice Rohrwacher has. Made me watch Lazzaro Felice right after this, which I also loved! Hoping to watch La Meraviglie soon. 😊 Never heard of Ghostlight before, but now want to watch it. Thanks for your video! 🥳
Thanks for putting Ghostlight, Last Stop in Yuma County, MadS, and the Promised Land on my list. Already had Super/Man. Thoroughly enjoyed Monkey Man, The First Omen, Abigail. I'd say that Late Night with the Devil was overlooked. David Dastmalchian is amazing and needs to be in more leading roles. People may be missing out on Flow due to its limited release in a lot of markets. My second best animated movie of the year, but arguably the most creative and risk taking.
I love your videos, especially these list ones. I’ve watched multiple movies this year that I’d never heard of before watching one of your videos, and have enjoyed every single one. Each time you do one of these I always note atleast few of them and watch. I’ve seen 4 or 5 of the ones from this list but look forward to checking out the others. Thanks for the suggestions and for putting out great content!
respect for Yuma County and Promised Land but was hoping for The Sweet East! one of the best and most overlooked of the year definitely worth checking out! great vid
Glad to see Ghostlight getting some attention! I've been singing its praises to everyone, but that title isn't doing it any favors (most people I talk to seem to think it's a horror movie). It's in my Top 5 of the year, so glad to see others enjoying it as well.
Great list. Thank you for giving me a few more movies to find and watch. Can't wait for your best of and worst of videos. Abigail was an extremely fun movie, just wish the end weren't the same as the end of Ready or Not. The young actress playing Abigail was great
Thanks for your recommendations. I saw Red Rooms last night based on your recommendation, and it was fantastic. It's one of the best movies that I have watched this year. Thanks.
Glad someone else is mentioning Omen, I think this is the best one since the original and the production and acting are so good. One of the best movie experiences of the year
SO glad to see The First Omen getting some much deserved attention. I saw it TWICE during it's all-too-brief theatrical run, and was just so impressed. Not only might it be my favorite film of 2024 (holding that decision until I see Nosferatu on Christmas Day) but it has become one of my top 5 films of all time. I feel like this is a film will find more and more appreciation as years go on. Aside from the prequel stigma, I believe it suffered by being released so soon after Sydney Sweeney's Immaculate (which I would also rate as an underrated gem of this year).
Great list! Never even heard of ‘The Promised Land’, will def check it out. And in a year of great horror, I feel like ‘The First Omen’ got lost in the shuffle. It’s my 2nd most favorite horror movie after Oddity. 🍿
List of movies looks interesting. I belive I have watched only Abigail. The First Omen I had impression that it's passeble movie...now I may re-concider and watch it. Thank you for making video and highlighting those gems
Thank you for "The Promised Land" recommendation. I watched it the same night I watched this video and thought it was an amazing movie. I've always liked Mads Mikkelsen from when I first saw him in Casino Royale, and thought he was magnetic in this movie.
I would recommend The Order to everyone! I saw it at a mystery screening and it is really good starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult. It felt like a Taylor Sheridan movie in the vein of Hell or High Water and Wind River.
i just found out the other day that the ghostlight mom, dad, and daughter are real life mom, dad, and daughter, and that makes it so much more charming to me for some reason. can't wait to rewatch it with that knowledge.
@@sihi5634 okay she listed her 10 most underrated horror films then listed her 10 most underrated films - horror and non horror but nothing from the first list and still 3 horror films made the 2nd list but, they would be the #11, #12, and #13 best horror so #1, #2, and #3 from the 1st list would’ve been included if they had been allowed but how many from #4 - #10 would’ve replaced non horror given the chance? a list of my 10 favorite films probably wouldn’t have any horror but that’s me The Omen is my favorite horror film maybe the only horror film i like but i might give the Omen prequel a try anyway, my point is this girl really likes horror
The Vourdalak and Red Rooms are probably the most obscure movies that I completely and totally clicked with this year! Strong recommend for both -- Vourdalak is basically a new Hammer Horror, and Red Rooms is just so damn disturbing and fascinating.
Thanks for a great list as always, Marianna. 'Abigail' like 'M3GAN' in 2023 offered a mixture of both horror and comedy. The movie hits even harder with the realization that it was the last credited work of Angus Cloud (Euphoria), who passed away in 2023.😢
Last Stop In Yuma County is like low budget Western thriller until the ending where it turns into a Tarantino esque dogfight, and I was all fucking for it 😂
You included Abigail and First Omen here, which leads me to guess that they will not be on your horror best of list because they got crowded out. (We'll see how your rules apply.) Question: Is this the best year for horror ever? Or is there another? 1932, 1960, 1978, & 1999 seem to be the major contenders. What say you oh Slav of the Screens? And Marianna if I hear you correctly, any film featuring potatoes gets an extra boost.
@@ImpressionBlend Finally watched it! A little too violent, but highly enjoyable. I like how colorful these movies are nowadays, like Bullet Train, Last Nite in Soho, lots of cool neon colors throughout these films.
I saw the original 1976 Omen for the first time and The First Omen over Halloween, definitely enjoyed them both, the tension is perfect in each their own way. Monkey Man is in my Top 10 of the year so far.
Tis is my first time viewing this channel. Not sure ,but I know I have heard these unmistakenable vocals before. I've seen' Abigail, & 'First Omen". Loved them both, but 'I'm definitely intrigued with these other picks. Mainly "Monkey Man" which looks like a straight out testosterone fueled Rock & Sock em ride. I also wanna see Richard Brake in The Last Stop in Yuma County. he is a sinister looking character and a damn strong screen presence. He even gave Bill Mosley a run for his money in ' 3 From Hell'. Thanx for the recommendations.
