Thanks Marianna! I can see that Nosferatu Eggers' style has inspired you. It's funny to me that you put the OG Nosferatu and Vampyr in the artistic but dated category. Both of those films are higher than all contemporary vampire films on my list. And I recently made a video arguing that since Gen Z is obsessed with labeling old handmade things 'creepy' (a very new usage of the word that did not exist yet when I was young) these two films in particular have taken on a new eerie life. I think that folks your Millennial age still see them as old and dated. Whereas I think that younger people who think that clowns, puppets, dolls, old Halloween costumes, etc. are chillingly creepy, these antique films have a new lease on life. But I am waiting Mr. Eggers to convince me. Unfortunately it doesn't show up here until January 2nd. Meanwhile I dare you to make a video to convince me that 2024 isn't the best year for horror, perhaps, ever. Merry Christmas and here's to 2025! May the movies send meaningful shivers down our exposed spines.
Hi Marianna! My top ten vampire movies in chronological order are: Dracula (1979), Nosferatu: the Vampyre (1979), The Hunger (1983), Fright Night (1985), Near Dark (1987), The Lost Boys (1987), Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), La Invención de Cronos (1993, Guillermo del Toro), Interview with the Vampire (1994) and Let the Right One In (2008). Honorable mentions: the miniseries Count Dracula (1979, BBC) and Salem's Lot (1979 and 2004).
Love it! Here's my list: 1. Let the Right One In (2008) 2. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014) 3. Thirst (2009) 4. Twins of Evil (1971) 5. Vampyr (1932) 6. Dracula (1931) 7. Twilight (2008) 8. Black Sunday (1960) 9. Daughters of Darkness (1971) 10. Martin (1977) Honorable mentions: The Lost Boys (1987) The Blood Spattered Bride (1972)
RAZOR BLADE SMILE (1998) is a personal favorite that almost no one has seen. It's a contemporary character study of a vampire woman who fulfills her diet by performing mob hits. It's very smart and grounded - with a sly sense of humor running through it. Great performance from Eileen Daly who carries the film. Watch through to the very end.
For me, Cronos is definitely up there for vampire movies. Also, anyone interested, and ok with a certain B movie quality should find Spanish vampire movies of the late 60s and 70. There's some good stuff
Nosferatu (1922), Dracula (1931), Horror of Dracula (1958), Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), The Hunger (1983), Interview with the Vampire (1994), Blade (1998), Underworld (2003), Let the Right One In (2008), Thirst (2009), & Fright Night (2011) are my favorite vampire films.
My top ten films (not tv shows, plays, etc) in no particular order: Let Me In/Let The Right One In, Shadow of the Vampire, Lips of Blood, Vampire Journals, Interview with the Vampire, What We Do In the Shadows, Suck, Vampyr, Nosferatu (original), The Vampire Lovers
1. Blade 2. Interview With the Vampire 3. Underworld 4. The Lost Boys 5. Queen of the Damned 6. Thirst 7. 30 Days of Night 8. Vampires 9. Bram Stoker's Dracula 10. Fright Night

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Movie) 7. Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter 6. Blade (Their only ever gonna be one) 5. Dracula (1931) 4. Interview With The Vampire 3. 30 Days Of Night 2. Fright Night (1985) 1. Bram Stocker's Dracula
Dr. Sleep was a truly inspired choice. Incredible film. Directors cut is a masterpiece. Fright Night is also remarkable. Eggers Nosferatu is the greatest horror movie of the last 30 years.
Fantastic list. Love every film you mentioned, and ones I haven’t seen are now on my watchlist. Will be seeing Eggers’s Nosferatu soon, and I am so psyched. Happy Holidays!
When it comes to your favorite movies, they aren't always the best, but ones you just and can watch over and over. My top 2 favorite vampire movies is Let me in (yes the remake) and Blade 2. Thank you for another great video
In no particular order: Murnau's Nosferatu, Shadow of the Vampire, Dracula (Lugosi), Queen of the Damned, Let the Right One In, Let Me In, Nosferatu 2024, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Vampire (1979 made for TV, ok it's hokey but I loved Richard Lynch's vampire), Lost Boys (mostly for the soundtrack, but also a fun film). Honorable mention: Herzog's Nosferatu, Interview with the Vampire, What We Do In the Shadows
queen of the damned??? worst movie ever. Clearly you did not read the novels or had any good taste, that was the biggest insult to the best vampire novel that I read. The movie is a 100% insult to the book, the worst film adaptations that I ever saw. The new interview with a vampire series it is also a terrible adaptations and insult to the books.
@@angellestat2730 1. "Worst movie ever?" That's your opinion. Not mine. 2. The list represents movies that I enjoyed, not cinematic greats or faithful adaptations of source material. I have also a 1970s made for TV vampire flick in the list. By all quote un quote objective criteria, it's a terrible film when compared to the others. However I enjoyed it that's why it's on the list. 3. I have read all of the novels in the vampire Chronicles series with the exception of Prince Lestat in the realms of Atlantis. To be factual, I experienced some of those novels in the forms of audiobooks which technically isn't reading. Somebody burn me for that I dare you 4. Lastly, why oh why do I continue posting comments on TH-cam when I know that 90% of the responses I get will be of this nature. Masochism I guess.
@@deificmask8931 you read it more Anne Rice Books that me, but we are talking about Queen of the danmed adaptation, which is in fact an adaptation of two books, lestat the vampire and queen of the damned in 1 hour 40m. This alone should be something unforgivable. Then the cast was like 1% of the quality in comparison to the first interview with the vampire adaptation. The script was terrible, all the major points from the books were total lost it, distorted and changed until the point that it had nothing to do with the books. So my question is... if you agree that Lestat the vampire and Queen of the Danmed are amazing books (in my opinion much better than the first book or all others). How can you like the movie? I can not understand how is that even possible. I just cant.. as I said, I think that movie is the worst movie adaptation ever. If someone tells me that they like the movie, there is no way that I believe they have read the books.
@@angellestat2730 (Why is there no block button on TH-cam?) The great thing about being a conscious being is you get to choose what you wish to believe. You don't want to believe that I've read Anne Rice's novels because I happen to like a movie . . . I choose not to believe in Santa Claus, and he's been in a number of books as well. Book and movie are two different things, two different experiences They are not really comparable. Stephen King fans know this. Argument over. I liked the movie and you hated it. No problem.
Nice list! My personal top 10 contain the following ones, You have not mentioned: Near Dark, 30 Days Of Night, Daughters Of Darkness, The Hunger and The Wisdom Of Corocodiles.
Thank you for the recommendations. “The Last Man On Earth” is an interesting classic, really enjoyed “Black Sunday” though I can’t decide if it’s a vampire movie or a witch movie. Will check out the others!
Thanks for the list! I'm crushed that Nosferatu isn't gonna be opening in my neck of the Alaskan woods tomorrow, so this gives me some stuff to hopefully stream. As for your list, I agree that Let the Right One In is fantastic and deserves a top 10, as does 1979's Nosferatu. My top 10 would include Shadow of the Vampire, The Lost Boys, The Hunger and maybe Byzantium and Underworld. I haven't seen Thirst, Dr. Sleep or Only Lovers Left Alive tho. My top 10 list wouldn't include Coppola's Dracula or Fright Night (maybe). It'd be a tough call. Happy holidays!
@@ImpressionBlend Cannot imagine how difficult it must have been for Mike Flanagan to do a sequel of a film that was directed by the master, Stanley Kubrick.
This may be a worthless comment, but I listened to this while driving in West Texas and it made minutes melt away and now I have a blood lust to watch Nosferatu.
I loved the atmosphere and the tone, it’s a very moody, stylish movie. I was missing a compelling story though, so in the end I enjoyed it but didn’t love it
Awesome list! So glad to see Only Lovers Left Alive on here. There's just one more that I may add, though I'm not sure where it'd be on the list, and that's Del Toro's Cronos. Mainly because it's just such a unique take on the genre.
Very impressive list. 'Let the Right One In' also appeared as a Showtime series back in 2022. It generated mostly positive reviews. But it was canceled after only one season.
That's a pretty good list. With the exception of the Swedish film "Frostbite," this list has all my favorites. I was hoping for Let the Right One In, Doctor Sleep, and the new Nosferatu. Looks like I have some recommendations to follow.
Fright Night was one of the first horror films I watched in the movie theater. It had great storytelling, practical effects and was funny/horrifying at the same time! Lost Boys rocked (and still does), Let the Right One In crawled into your heart, and Near Dark - so fun!
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night ( i love her dispensing of justice to the violent pimp), Bram Stoker's Dracula, Horror of Dracula with it's feral count and Peter Cushing as the avuncular Dr. Van Helsing who can hold his own with the vampire. Shadow of the Vampire, Vampyr, Only Lovers Left Alive ( I would watch Tilda Swinton read a math book) and John Hurt always gets my attention with his voice and presence. The soul devouring creatures in Doctor Sleep are truly disturbing. Let the Right One In reminds of the cold of Swedish winters I could easily believe there are night creatures outside Stockholm I think Midnight Mass is my favorite although it was not released in theaters. I look forward to Egger's Nosferatu
I'm definately excited about this new Nosferatu movie, and for the first time, I decided to start writing a vampire horror novel set in a post-apocalyptic far-off future. I always wanted to write a vampire story, but I didn't know how until an idea came. The idea was to find a way to make vampires scare me as an adult and combine gothic horror, cosmic horror, eschatological apocalyptic horror, and other genres of horror and meld them all together to see what comes out of it. While there are movies have deeply inspired me, it was mostly books and other mediums that inspired me the most. These are some of the movies and other mediums that inspired me that I recommend. The original Nosferatu of course, but also Stephen King's Salems Lot both the book and movie from the 1970s. The Vampire Hunter D anime movies along with the books and mangas, John Carpenter's Vampires, The Lost Boys movie, and the 2011 movie Priest which was the last good vampire movie that I saw and is the only movie that I know that does CGI effects very well where the Vampires actually look like they are there with the actors, and that is because the color pallet of blues and shadows they used for the color scheme during film production worked very well for the movie. It made the CGI blend in with the environment very well. It didn't make the creatures look obviously animated for the most part. Those are some of the Vampire movies that inspired me, but the two mediums that inspired me the most in writing this story. One is a book series that I wish would one day become a movie, and that is the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley. The vampires in his books are the scariest vampires ever in the history of literature. The things they do to their human prey besides feeding on them can definitely disturb a reader. The other medium that deeply inspired me is actually a video game series that I fell in love with back in the late 90s, and that is the Legacy of Kain series. It's a dark gothic fantasy story played out in a video game format with an incredibly well-written script that is Shakespearean in both story and dialogue. Even though it's a series that centers around badass vampires. It's actually a series that is deeply philosophical and dives deep into Nietzschean philosophy, the philosophy of ancient Gnosticism, and cause-and-effect duality. Never has there been a video game series that made me question everything about reality more than the Legacy of Kain series did. To me, a good vampire story is at its best when vampires are monsters and villains and are not romantic. Nothing against the romantic vampire troupe. Sexy vampires can be scary if done right and are willing to take a risk. I just hope that the new Nosferatu movie will signal a change in vampire fiction moving forward in the future. For too long, Hollywood just wanted to copy Anne Rice and Blade which is why we got more terrible vampire fiction than good. Nothing against Anne Rice, it's that there are too many people who just want to copy her style and call it a day which just doesn't work. Now I hope movie writers and directors would gravitate toward horror, toward the supernatural and spiritual, and toward making vampires evil. Which is what I am doing with my novel. The vampires that I am writing about are evil, visceral, twisted, very in-your-face, darkly spiritual, esoteric, and mystical in a dedicated attempt to find a way to make vampires frighten me. I'm hoping other writers would make their vampire stories scary as well. Here's hoping.
Blood for Dracula -74 (Only for Udo Kier performance) Martin -77 ( George A Romero best non zombie movie) Daughters of Darkness -71 (My favorite vampire movie, Delphine Seyrig is fantastic)
Can’t say I agree with Doctor Sleep, but everything else I’ve seen it and I love it and I hundred percent appreciate your choice. Gonna go see Eggers’ Nosferatu on 28th 👀
For me, the best and scariest vampire film of recent times was 30 Days of Night. The vampires were extremely well drawn with their own guttural language and complete disregard for human life, no romance or empathy only violent savagery. The setting is also very inventive and one scene in particular stands out. When the lead vampire catches a young woman and she pleads for God to save her, he slowly looks to the sky, shakes his head and says "No God."
You listed some of my favorite movies that featured vampirism. If I had to add to this list, I would include: 1. The Lost Boys 2. Blade (the first film in the franchise) 3. Underworld (the first film in the franchise)
1. The hunger 2. Let the right one in / Let me in 3. Nosferatu / Nosferatu / Shadow of the vampire 4. Lost Boys / Fright night (sans Fright night remake which “sucks” majorly lol pardon the pun) 5. Interview with the vampire (although I will say that the new AMC take on their miniseries is simply terrific and amazing) 6. Dracula (Bela Lugosi had this uncanny charisma and total hypnotic energy that he’s the draw on this one) 7. 30 days of nights 8. From dusk till dawn (how cannot include a Tarantino take on vampires?) 9. Daybreaker 10. Cronos 11. Hunted 12. Byzantium 13. Only lovers left alive 14. Innocent blood (2012) 15. Abigail
Only Lovers Left Alive would be my number one, followed by Let The Right One In. Haven’t seen a lot of vampire movies, maybe because I’m not drawn to graphic violence and gore and creepy stuff usually. I have seen Interview with the Vampire as a teen as well. Don’t remember much, just that I found it a bit creepy. Time for a rewatch, I guess. 🫠 I really want to watch A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night! 🧛🏼♂️
Come on, ya gotta throw in a couple of Hammer Horrors in there. I'd recommend Horror of Dracula and Brides of Dracula. Back to America I'd also mention Blacula and George Romero's Martin, about a confused teenage vampire.
“You gotta” - no, not really. This is a list of my personal favorites and I don’t have strong feelings about “Horror of Dracula”, as much as I enjoyed the performances. I will eventually check out “Brides of Dracula” though. Really liked the concept of “Martin”, but didn’t love the movie.

My guilty pleasures from the 80's are Near Dark and the The Lost Boys. Cheers!

Love it! Here's my list:
1. Let the Right One In (2008)

The Blood Spattered Bride (1972)
Additional recommendations: Innocent Blood, Wisdom of Crocodiles, We are the Night (Wir sind die Nacht), Midnight Son, Rose, Jakob's Wife.
That sounds interesting. I may have to check it out.
For me, Cronos is definitely up there for vampire movies.
Also, anyone interested, and ok with a certain B movie quality should find Spanish vampire movies of the late 60s and 70. There's some good stuff
Great video idea with Nosferatu coming out!
Blade, yes!
My top ten films (not tv shows, plays, etc) in no particular order:
Let Me In/Let The Right One In, Shadow of the Vampire, Lips of Blood, Vampire Journals, Interview with the Vampire, What We Do In the Shadows, Suck, Vampyr, Nosferatu (original), The Vampire Lovers
If someone is interested in watching a vampire movie but its different than usual,I recommend "Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person" .

2. Interview With the Vampire
3. Underworld
4. The Lost Boys
5. Queen of the Damned
6. Thirst
7. 30 Days of Night

Dr. Sleep was a truly inspired choice. Incredible film. Directors cut is a masterpiece. Fright Night is also remarkable. Eggers Nosferatu is the greatest horror movie of the last 30 years.
"Dr. Sleep was a truly inspired choice. Incredible film."
I totally agree! Great movie! 😍
NEAR DARK !!! 😊 But with the Rest i totaly agree.. GREETINGS SISTER
Fantastic list. Love every film you mentioned, and ones I haven’t seen are now on my watchlist. Will be seeing Eggers’s Nosferatu soon, and I am so psyched. Happy Holidays!
Enjoy!! Happy Holidays to you as well!
When it comes to your favorite movies, they aren't always the best, but ones you just and can watch over and over. My top 2 favorite vampire movies is Let me in (yes the remake) and Blade 2. Thank you for another great video
“30 Days of Night” is one of my (among many) favorite Vampire films.
Yes!!! You led the right one in.
After seeing these classics, it might be fun to watch Ed Wood. Crazy fun that is vampire centric. 👍
@@angellestat2730
Somebody burn me for that I dare you
4. Lastly, why oh why do I continue posting comments on TH-cam when I know that 90% of the responses I get will be of this nature. Masochism I guess.
PS, while Anne Rice is one of my favorite authors, she has also come up with a few real stinkers (I'm thinking of Memnoch here), so nobody's perfect
@@angellestat2730
(Why is there no block button on TH-cam?)
The great thing about being a conscious being is you get to choose what you wish to believe. You don't want to believe that I've read Anne Rice's novels because I happen to like a movie . . . I choose not to believe in Santa Claus, and he's been in a number of books as well.
Book and movie are two different things, two different experiences
They are not really comparable. Stephen King fans know this.
Argument over. I liked the movie and you hated it. No problem.
Hi Marianna. Cool list. One of my favorite vampire movies is 30 Days of Night . Love the premise and the cast. Just a fun flick for a winters night .
I have never been a big vampire genre film lover but, Definitely a must watch for that genre.is: Abel Ferrara's "The Addiction."
The Hunger and Salem's Lot.
original Salem's Lot, Tobe Hooper restricted to tv enforced welcome discipline. Remember the Glick boy at the wondered, still terrifying.
I'm so glad the original Fright Night is on your list.....definitely in my top 5.
did i complement already on your pullover? looks stunning - what an insight...
Nice list! My personal top 10 contain the following ones, You have not mentioned: Near Dark, 30 Days Of Night, Daughters Of Darkness, The Hunger and The Wisdom Of Corocodiles.
I recommend Lifeforce, The Last Man On Earth, Black Sunday, The Moth Diaries, and Leonor.
Thank you for the recommendations. “The Last Man On Earth” is an interesting classic, really enjoyed “Black Sunday” though I can’t decide if it’s a vampire movie or a witch movie. Will check out the others!
Merry Christmas
Time for a Let the Right One In rewatch.
My top 3: 1. Dracula (1992), 2. Interview with the Vampire (1994), 3. The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967).
Love this top 3!
Me too!! Love them!! Thanks for this!! ❤️🧛
Putting Doctor Sleep (2019) (Director's Cut) on that list: Brilliant! 👍👍🙏
I will definitely check (and recheck) of few of those.
Too many people SLEEPING on "Doctor Sleep" as a vampire gem.
I'll see myself out, sorry.
Not sure if you know it or perhaps you didnt like it? But The Hunger with Deneuve, Bowie, Sarandon is a great 80’s extravaganza of a vampire flick.
"Cronos" is a very interesting take on vampirism, I really appreciated the approach there
Watched all of top 5 from your lists, except latest Nosferatu, Doctor Sleep and the one with Tilda Swinton. ❤
Amazing ranking!! 💯🧛♂
Glad you liked it!
I always had a love for 1979’s Dracula with Frank Langella, Laurence Olivier and Donald Pleasence.
Last Voyage of the Demeter not being on this list is a unfortunate. I truly enjoyed it.
A Girl Walks Home Along at Night is sooooooooooooooooooooo great!
Did you know “Let The Right One In” got its name from The Smiths song “Let The Right One Slip In”? Filmmaker confirmed it in an article I read 🎸
Salem’s Lot (1979).
"Near Dark" and the 70's "Salem's Lot" for ones that weren't mentioned.
Let the Right One In that I dubbed perfectly glacially paced.
Blood and Donuts is an offbeat vampire movie I remember fondly.
Interview with the Vampire, Near Dark, Daybreakers, Byzantium, Let The Right One In, even Lifeforce gets some love from me.
I take note from this list.
Glad you put let the right one in. Will add the also not so known Oliver asayas Irma vep
thank you for recommendation going to watch Let the right one in.
Enjoy!
Blood for Dracula -74 (Only for Udo Kier performance)
Martin -77 ( George A Romero best non zombie movie)
Daughters of Darkness -71 (My favorite vampire movie, Delphine Seyrig is fantastic)
I like the Horror of Dracula starring Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and also Hammer Horror's Twins of Evil.
If I had to add to this list, I would include:
1. The Lost Boys
2. Blade (the first film in the franchise)
3. Underworld (the first film in the franchise)
I love Daybreakers, 30 Days of Night, House of Darkness, Blade
"Daybreakers" has such an interesting concept!
1983's The Hunger. Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie. A cool soundtrack and a great re-imagining on the vampire movie.
The atmosphere and vibes in that one are off the charts!
1. The hunger
2. Let the right one in / Let me in
3. Nosferatu / Nosferatu / Shadow of the vampire
4. Lost Boys / Fright night (sans Fright night remake which “sucks” majorly lol pardon the pun)
5. Interview with the vampire (although I will say that the new AMC take on their miniseries is simply terrific and amazing)
6. Dracula (Bela Lugosi had this uncanny charisma and total hypnotic energy that he’s the draw on this one)
7. 30 days of nights
8. From dusk till dawn (how cannot include a Tarantino take on vampires?)
9. Daybreaker
10. Cronos
11. Hunted
12. Byzantium
13. Only lovers left alive
14. Innocent blood (2012)
15. Abigail
I've never heard of Vampyr.
It's wild. And she's right - the shadow scenes are super cool.
I know it's corny, but I love Langella's Dracula and its tragic romantic slant.
I really want to watch A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night! 🧛🏼♂️
You forgot to mention Dracula 1979 with Frank Langella
Come on, ya gotta throw in a couple of Hammer Horrors in there. I'd recommend Horror of Dracula and Brides of Dracula. Back to America I'd also mention Blacula and George Romero's Martin, about a confused teenage vampire.
“You gotta” - no, not really. This is a list of my personal favorites and I don’t have strong feelings about “Horror of Dracula”, as much as I enjoyed the performances. I will eventually check out “Brides of Dracula” though. Really liked the concept of “Martin”, but didn’t love the movie.
@@ImpressionBlend 💀💀Merry Xmas! 💀💀
Merry Christmas to you too!
Bram Stoker's Dracula was my go to vampire movie, but now I’ll be seeing Nosferatu tomorrow. So, I’ll see if it tops Dracula as the must see vampire movie to watch.
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 to you 😊
Happy Holidays to you as well! Enjoy "Nosferatu"!
