I knew an older guy personally from Kershaw, South Carolina, he would go fishing in Lake Wateree weekly. He would get there around 7:30 and start trolling for crappie, and by 9:30 he would have his limit in complete SLAB DONKEYS….unfortunately he passed away a couple years ago, and I never got to know his secrets
My Dad gave me some sound advice on finding any fish in a new body of water…he said the water was the last place he looked…he told me the bank could tell you almost EXACTLY what’s going on under the water. If you see that a tree has fallen, and there’s just a stump, but you can’t see the tree anywhere, chances are it’s in the water. Depth is the only thing other than shade/visual structure/water clarity that he said he needed other than walking as much of the bank as he could. After trying that I realized it was actually some of the best advice (fishing wise) that he had ever given me.
Only reason we use the methods we do, was bc we really didn’t believe in using electronics when we out fishing just for fun. We mostly did catch and release fishing, but now that I’m married and older, I do prefer to keep the 10.5 inch slabs bc they put a lot of cheap groceries in the freezer!
