Hi, it's the same for me, i got into "New morning" quite recently, i like it a lot now my favourite 70's album is Desire followed by blood on the tracks
New Morning is my number one Dylan album. It's a real grower. You get to hear just how good he is on piano on this album. The songs are sincere and earnest. While there are only a couple of songs critics might label as great, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts here. A great great album. I love it. Sign On The Window a masterpiece imo.
I'm going through the ones I feared now. And so much love for them as I go. I get the fear: that you love the stuff you love so much you don't want any bad thoughts. I think I had to grow up a bit to get it. I was even gifted a CD by someone at work (an older Dylan fan who i got talking to and made a connection, stuff that matters) maybe 30 years ago and then felt a bit snobbish as it was one from the uncertain years. I feel really bad about it now. I suppose I was like the folk fans in '65 who wanted the same. It was Street Legal, and it's really great! But not what I wanted then. New Morning is awesome. Bob was always ahead of everyone. I wish I could find that kind lady who just brought that CD in and gave it to a kid who wasn't ready, who just played Baby Blue over and over.
You left out my favorite song, #4 on side 2, "The Man in Me", which is featured in one of my favorite Cohen brothers movies, "The Big Lebowski" ... classic Americana! Lots of references in American culture to that song. Hello from USA 🇺🇸
I can tell you that this album was considered a flop at the time. John Wesley Harding was seen as his last great album at the time. Only Planet Waves began to rehabilitate him. You have to remember that The Great White Wonder was circulating then, a precursor to the official release of The Basement Tapes in 1975. This was a weak album, I'm afraid. There are much better examples of eally Americana. Funk and Jazz? Are you insane, my friend?

Afraid to listen to a Dylan album? Seriously?
No not seriously. Or at least not as afraid as I am for fires or sharks.
