Thank you for your videos! I've been struggling with urinary retention and it's gotten worse recently. I'm waiting to see what's causing it, but if I had to guess, it's probably my neuropathy, and I've been having a lot of anxiety about the fact that having to self-catheterize might end up being a reality for me. Seeing someone who's used to it talk about it makes that scenario feel a lot less scary, and even if I don't end up having to do it, I'm always glad to learn more about what other disabled people are going through. Destigmatizing these things is important! Thank you again, and I hope you're doing well :)
Thank you- this was a pre-filmed video from before everything got really bad for me. I haven’t been able to film in a while so I had to upload an old video which I had originally discarded (due to the lighting).
Hi, Georgina, I can't tell you how much confidence this video has given me......I start on Friday, 2 days away and I already knew that I wouldn't be able to juggle catheter, mirror and open cat flap because I have arthritis in my hands. I feel so much better, now xx bless you 😊
Sister have you tried going down a size if it's painful going and it's usually too big I had the same problem it caused a lot of inflammation and swelling and pain and then painful spasming as stream an emptyingcomes to an end. The catheter you are using as an example looks very big like the size that they automatically give everybody once I switch down to a 12 French everything was perfect. I do believe in theory that when it's too big you end up starting to build up scar tissue the reason I think this happens is because the holes in the end of the catheter scrape the skin as they're going in and then you end up getting swelling and inflammation and the more swelling than the more the holes in the catheter scrape. Another thing that helps is some brands are quite stiff for the straight catheters the one that I settled on has a slight curve and is very flexible so it's able to follow whatever curves especially because a lot of times we don't realize that we actually always put it in at an angle from the actual urethra pathway that can also cause swelling the brand that I use is in infyna chic
Another thing that can cause pain and more infections is wipes you use I've had a lot of trial and error and I do still feel frustrated what kind of wipes you recommend I am allergic to just about everything in general so when it comes to wipes I knew I had to be careful the nurse suggested to get water wipes which I used but I still ended up with infections and I don't I'm not sure if water wipes actually truly clean the area well enough I use the ones that don't have a bunch of stuff in them and are for sensitive and then finally I tried to use the bzk wipes and I don't know if those are fully safe because you actually don't want to make yourself too sterile you still need the proper fighting bacteria to stay this is where we really like don't know where the fine line is it's so hard and frustrating but I think this is one of the reasons why we are still get infections no matter what we do because it depends on the delicate balance of the bacteria and wipes that either sterilize too much or don't sterilize enough or have other ingredients that shouldn't be put on the delicate area
I imagine you know about Methenamine Hippurate already. I resisted taking that for a long time due to fear of the formaldehyde it forms, but I've been using it for the last 4 months without side effects and without the UTI symptoms that used to plague me. I suspect the bladder and kidneys find infective bacteria very irritating and damaging I now fear pathological bacteria more than the formaldehyde.
Hello Georgina. I'm allergic to kiwi fruit and was told by the medical profession to avoid anything with latex. I believe the catheters i use, (latex) are the reasons why I have continuous infections. Have you heard of anyone with the same problem. Thank you.
Let me know if you’d like me to link a video on helping reduce catheter related infections, but sadly no, I wouldn’t say a material is causing infections. It could cause inflammation, but not infections that show up in urinalysis
Thank you. It seems that no matter how much I clean that area, I still get infections. I'm on antibiotics at the moment. I have been really grateful to have found your brilliant videos. They've been so helpful.

I'm grateful that Raelynn doesn't seem to mind being cathed at all. She just seems to be relieved that we're able to help her empty her bladder.
Glad she has you guys to help her with everything 💗
Georgina, thank you so much for sharing. Your tips have been so helpful to me.❤
So happy to hear this, I’m cheering you on! 💕
I have just started using intermittent catheters I have been so so nervous. Thank you for this
Hope it gets easier for you soon 🤞🏽 I definitely recommend my video on reducing infections also!

There is no wipe that can truly kill all bacteria so d-mannose, hipprex (methenamine) or low dose antibiotics are also usually needed too
hi. where did you get your catheters?
@@hannahimnida4872 its on prescription like my medications

Yes, I did a video on that too :) Glad it’s helping you as much as it can :)
Thank you
You’re welcome, thanks for watching! ☺️
Your so cute and pretty Georgina. I cath 4x a day.
Thanks so much, Julie! So are you! I hope that’s going as well as possible for you 💗
Am I wrong but where is the video about cath with mirror?
You’re not wrong, sorry, had an emergency with my pet so wasn’t able to add it before, but I’m in the process of adding it now!
Added it now!

Catheterising causes infections! allergies don’t cause infections!

Please tell me you also feel pain when you use the catheter
Yes, but most of the time it shouldn’t bleed or get stuck on the way out
@@GeorginasJourney thank you i have cramping and a burning sensation before the catheter goes into the bladder have you had it too
Yes, but you should speak to your doctor if you’re concerned
@@GeorginasJourney Thank you very much for answering me
