  • RYOBI battery comparison test, ORIGINAL 5Ah vs NO BRAND (Vanon) 6 Ah. We test two, fully charged batteries in real forest work, with RYOBI 18V brushless chainsaw 12".
    RYOBI ONE+ 9Ah battery which I highly recommend: amzn.to/3iEPsnh
RYOBI 18V brushless chainsaw, must have: amzn.to/2FFv06Z
DJI Mini 2! The EVERY DAY DORNE! : click.dji.com/AEd0TqlrNwF_XUC...
The Music I use in All my videos: www.epidemicsound.com/referra...
Even if you have 6 or more gasoline chainsaws, you will appreciate this electric chainsaw very much, no gasoline smell, just grab it and use, no cold start required, perfect for homeowners and small homesteading.
Please enjoy video and let me know, what is your experience using No Brand RYOBI batteries, if you have any questions, do not hesitate please leave comment.
    Thankyou!

Thanks so much for your thorough review of the two batteries.
    I purchased a pair of P107 3.8Ah
LI-ION batteries which are knock offs on Amazon cheap and have charged them via the Ryobi One battery charger and noticed that the indicator lights on the charger do not function the same as when charging an original Ryobi 4.0 Ah battery.
The green indicator light remains illuminated upon FULL charge of the original Ryobi battery, the knock off battery upon what I believe is a full charge illuminated a red flashing light which according to the battery charger’s info indicates that the battery is overheating; although it wasn’t hot nor even warm to the touch? I’ll attempt to use the knock off batteries tomorrow.
Hoping to update my battery testing.
    Thank you!

You did a good video. I love this little chainsaw. The 9ah battery really allows it to work at it's full potential. As for the knockoffs I like to use those in the smaller tools like the lights and the tire inflator and they do really well.

Drain rises exponentially with torque resistance, so the longest use of these batteries occurs when you hear it running easily. The moment the sound pitch starts dropping, you know you are not only draining it much faster but also may overheat the battery, hence the frequent temperature faults.

I always thought the knock offs were more appealing for things like lights and fans where they don't have the same type of drain and as long as they get even close to their advertised runtime they are possibly a reasonable purchase. You know why spend $70 on a battery to throw in a light you use occasionally when you could just grab a $25 and use the nice ones in your other tools.

one part of me is saying that saw is too small for the job, but the other part of me is saying if we are going to test the battery then you need to test it to failure and that is what you did, so good job. According to the comments batteries are crazy expensive in Europe, I wonder why that is. I just bought 2, 4ah for $79.00 on sale at home depot, usa. No reason for me to even think of buying knockoffs. I will consider myself super lucky.

This is a real torture test of both batteries, and I'm impressed the cheap ones did as well as they did.
I just ordered 4 of the cheap ones from amazon $75 for four of them, since I can return them if they are junk,
or really my plan is to swap in bigger better cells, even better than Ryobi. That is what you need for this torture case,
is a really big battery, like a 12ah, 3 cell stack, not just the 2 stacks.

These batteries are mainly for the home DIY enthusiast who only use the tool occasionally who won't overheat the battery.
Battery overheating is not good because it will cause the battery to fail prematurely. The performance may be 2/3 of the Ryobi battery, but the price is like 1/4 of a genuine Ryobi battery. That makes the knock-off battery a good deal for the $.

I have found that fake batteries are not so good on first few charges, but improve with more charges, its to do with the battery balancing or lack of. mine are used in brushless angle grinder but i use an older 8 battery charger that you leave switched on all the time and it trickle charge and tops up batteries . also a very important thing is temperature of batteries when charging. No good charging a cold battery i always allow them to get to room temp. before charging.. so in winter keep charger in a heated place mines in house I have had this kit since lithium were started by ryobi and have only had one battery go bad. thats got be 15 years or so not sure

Knockoff batteries are inferior, but in thr USA they cost 75% less than brand name. I bought four batteries for the price of 1 brand name Ryobi.
None of these are good for serious duty like in your video. But for basic yardwork knockoff is better! For heavy duty use like yours, gas tools run all day.

They are not the same, cells are not the same, Vanon battery do work, but quality in everything makes me cry. Body plastic is very hard, what is bad, so easy brake it. In Europe there is point to buy some fake battery, because price difference is several times. But in USA original Ryobi batteries are so cheap, I do not see even point to buy Vanon batteries.

    • @madpogue
      @madpogue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Dream4Design Actually, there is still a large difference in price between the genuine Ryobi batteries and the knock-offs even in the USA. But as we say in the USA, you get what you pay for. Is that big difference in price worth the risk of getting "stranded" on a project or job without the power you need?

You didnt tell how much the Vanon battery cost compared to the Ryobi one. It is crucial information for the recommendation. as far as I know the Vanon cost about 1/5 of the Ryobi, and even if it provides 1/2 of the charge and working time, it is great buy !. I would buy couple of the Vanons. not for the intensive work such as cutting trees but for the electric drill, fan, lights, and other less demanding work. keep the Ryobi for the tough jobs.
Thank you for this GREAT real life test.

if the battery is overheating repeatedly it means the work load on it is more than what it was designed for. you may need to rethink your equipment, either the battery or the saw or both is not up for the task. Ryobi makes 36V tools and battery system for their heavy outdoor tools range.

Why do people keep calling replacement batteries "fake"? As long as they are not branded as Ryobi or Makita or Worx, etc., they are not "fakes". I've had the Ryobi 18V brushless chainsaw for a couple of years now. It will work better with the 9Ah battery but don't push the saw, the chain speed is rather low and the saw will not cut fast. I use a 6Ah Ryobi battery in mine and it cuts hard woods just fine. I was cutting 18 inch soft wood logs (Willow), this past Summer and I couldn't believe how much wood I cut on just one 6 Ah battery.
