I like the questions you’re addressing, Don. I especially appreciated your perspective on sex, porn, and masturbation. There is probably a tragic amount of unearned guilt related to sex in the world.

    Lots of great answers!
Regarding the morality of porn, I would like to add that it's easy to underestimate how much of it is non-consentual. Rape trafficking victims often end up in porn, and some statistics I've seen suggest that about 2 million women have basically been forced into porn, either professional or "amateur". A lot of amateur content is also stolen material, or revenge porn. Additionally, some who do porn voluntarily regret it deeply later. The fact that people can do hardcore porn at the age of 18 is wrong on so many levels...
Knowing all this. I don't have the conscience to watch porn anymore, except for some rare cases where it's very innocent stuff and the women are obviously quite adult and into it, etc.. But one can also read erotica, or real people's sex experiences on forums, etc, which is just as arousing anyway. ;) Or, for the people who are into that, hentai.

I will throw myself under the bus. As far as porn goes, i can only enjoy hentai. I just cant bring myself to believe those actors could enjoy this kind of career, voluntary or not.

Thanks for the insight. I haven't studied the issue at all but it wouldn't be surprising to me if this was an industry with something less than sterling moral standards.

Interesting. Ive been a right leaning libertarian type most my life. I am a believer in the minimal amount of goverment to get the job done. I've never been a member of the party, but I have voted for candidates in the past. I've always had criticisms, but this year I was quite disatifiesed with the candidates and I find myself moving away from it.
What you're saying about how even people that don't label themselves anarchists or don't see themselves as one absolutely do defend it or often seem to hold it as a high idea at least in theory.
I've of course heard of Ayn Rand before but havnt read much or dug deep. Many in libertarianism certainly do seem to look down on her.

There's also another curious problem with the Objectivist movement today. Objectivists have little interest in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. This might very well bring about the free-market revolution that Objectivists want, and they have mostly ignored it.

Great video! Have you considered adding timestamps and/or chapters to your TH-cam videos? Makes for a better experience if you would like answers to a specific question. See more about it in this video: th-cam.com/video/JTkHguGaTNs/w-d-xo.html

It's a great suggestion, though honestly I can't promise I'll make the time to do it. But I'll try!

It's a relative easy feature. Just add the timestamps (starting with 00:00) in your description 🙂

Vegard O. I know it’s easy, but it takes time, which is not something I have a ton of at the moment! But like I said, I’ll try.

Yeah, if you have to choose, you should definitely focus your efforts on creating great content instead of doing nitpicking with the timestamps.

Say what you will about JP, but don't think he'd tell anyone to rot in hell for a viewpoint (a view point hardly articulated or argued fairly). Just when I think I'm back on the objectivism train, I realize that nothing beautiful to look at, worth listening to or insane invention was ever created by one. They're like scorers on the side of the field with all the stats, but without any bruises. Ever seen Ayn Rand's husbands art? The philosophy has all the answers, but show me something, because everything you point to was created by someone who's philosophy is contradictory to it.

I view Rand as a kind of alternative secular humanist, in that she, along with a lot of other thoughtful people, were struggling in the 20th Century with the problem of how to live after the death of god. She was thinking about the right questions, in other words, but her answers aren't quite right.
