This might be the wrong video to post this comment on, but thanks for recommending You’re Dead To Me. It’s a fantastic podcast! I love learning history & this is just great! So thanks!
Just went to the hardware store today to secure material to build a plexiglass wall around my model railroad to keep my wonderful furry friend from sprawling out on main street and relocating my hours-of-work craftsman kits four feet below to the hard floor. Renegotiating that contract ASAP. Oh the things we do for the love of a feline. Great AMA, looking forward to the upcoming projects.
I contemplated starting a channel a while ago, but started a podcast instead. Along with all the millions of other people who have a podcast. It quickly became far more work than it was worth. So, my hat's off to you for trying to make a go of it.. good luck with your retirement program!
Funny how most things reveal themselves to be way harder than they appear on the surface right? Lol this I believe is why it’s hard not to become jaded, I struggle with that on a lot of fronts. 🤙🍻
Well, hell. You went ahead and answered. Again. Since there's an actual human answering and not the algorithm which forces me to make comments like that so it doesn't dump your channel from my feed if I don't watch TH-cam for a couple of days, here's an ~actual~ comment. That 'massive self-doubt*' you mentioned in response to why you started the channel, I think is pretty commonplace. I know that personally, I put off joining a band for years because I didn't think anyone wanted to come see me make an ass of myself in public. But, it turned out that for a few years, they did. To this day, I can't believe I tricked thousands of people into believing I was some sort of musician, yet there it is, on my resume, as real as the sunshine. I started the podcast as my retirement project (surprising how quickly one arrives here, really), to give me something to do instead of waiting around to die. I'm sure that I don't have to tell you how grueling grinding out new content weekly can become, even if you have nothing else to do with your time, so presently I'm taking my time with the new iteration of what I'd been doing before. Making all of the episodes in the season before putting them out, to save on stress. As an audio-only podcast in a field of millions of competing stories, often made by people with technical training (such as yourself), I have few illusions of becoming the next Critical Role. I do it now so that there will be a record of the amazing adventures I had with my friends, so that others might enjoy them, too. It might not be for everyone but it sure suits me. So keep sluggin', brother, and I'll keep commenting so the algorithm don't forget we've met. Peace! * Narcissists don't doubt themselves, bud.
Thanks. And thanks for inspiring me to get back into living, rather than just existing. I start a Shadowrun 5e campaign in nine days. As a GM, it's been a long time between drinks. So I hope I can pull it off. Got some maps and some mini's and a whole head full of ideas. Been a while since I've been excited. Cheers.
Excellent video! Great personal advice and very heartfelt- question- have you considered using “UDT (ultimate Dungeon Terrain) for your miniature stories? It may save you a lot of time crafting while still allowing you to be creative without distractions- so for career advice- are you recommending young people get a vocational trade ? 😅
Is UDT referring to the use of a lazy Susan type setup? If so I have considered it for dnd but I haven’t actually tried it out yet. I think it’s a cool idea but I’m always wanting like at least 24” of playable space lol. Which is still doable I think. As far as career advice, I’m probly the last person to solicit that from lol! I kinda think people should pursue what they enjoy but be mindful that everything that offers any sort of return (financial, spiritual, etc) requires “un-fun” work in the process 😎🍻
@@tabletopalchemyThanks! Also, having finished the video now (yes, I'm a premature commentator, sadly no known cure exists yet) I'd love to see that Cyberpunk city since that and Steampunk are my favorite settings.
@tabletopalchemy, I look forward to seeing what you do with it when the time comes! I have a copy and even made my own crew of minis in Hero Forge, but have yet to play it (or paint said minis) myself. I've started looking at a game called Exploit Zero which is also cyberpunk themed, but is solo-play, which more practical for me to actually play right now. :D
@@tabletopalchemy I don't know if your interested, but I just happened upon a set of uncut TMNT Ral Partha miniatures on Ebay right now for $89.. I don't know how many they made, but those were HTF back in 1984, if I recall. A guy could buy a set of the four Lego minis for about $125 today, and they're considered one of the best "deals" for collectors, so it's kind of hard for me to believe how few people are into the old lead. Weird, isn't it?
@@tabletopalchemy One of my friends had a HUMONGOUS collection of Ral Partha.. I haven't talked to him in 30 years, but I bet you anything he still has them. I can remember the dragon's tails sometimes had to be glued onto the bodies.
Odd...but maybe it makes sense that you get more satisfaction from the mini painting vs the terrain. I think your terrain frickin' rocks but I like mountains, trails, and hiking and crap.
From one narcissist to another.... What the hell? When I am 70 I won't be retired either. I will be doing the same thing I am doing now. Working in Radio and getting voice work on the side or making sound odd sound FX for somebody who wants them. Again. I won't get anything out of it because I am a sap and it's also because I love what I do.
It was amazing to find out we watch so many of the same channels! Now you've got me thinking about a 75mm game. Long ago, I did build 4 city blocks for Warhammer Inquisitor. Each one was about 2 feet x 2 feet, and took a LONG time to build (20 years later, I'm better and faster now) Now you've got me thinking....
lol my buddy always said inquisitor was going to fail because no one would build terrain for it. Four city blocks worth must have been an epic sight to see (and play on)!!
My channel is pretty small still but I would love to collaborate with you on something! I'm sure many other creators would too, just about finding the right person who's vision fits with yours

Overwatch 2 is not worth your time, honestly. Just about every aspect of the first one that you loved has been tarnished and/or destroyed. The only reason for a sequel to exist is as a cash grab.
