60s 70’s 80’s 90’s into 2000’s, top 10 hits in all those decades, Barry still writing songs today. They wrote over 1,000 songs for themselves and other artists.

    Absolutely astonishing video!
My parents favorite timeless band and I am hats-off to this talented trio.
Well crafted voice with perfectly blended harmonies.

Very nice reaction!❤ Yes, Robin is cupping his ear to hear his own voice better. A lot of musicians wear ear pieces now that do the same. Some of their best to react to: Love You Inside Out (funky & the lyrics so good!) Alone (the official version full of home movies!) Reaching Out, Rings Around the Moon, Run to Me, the longer version of I Cant See Nobody, Morning of My Life.... ahhh too many to name. But to hear the best versions, studio or live versions are best on Midnight special & 1993 & earlier. They are my all- time favorite group.❤❤❤

This was before the falsetto stage. The 60s and early 70s songs were much deeper vocally. Robin holds his ear so he can hear the pitch of his voice and block out other noise. They actually started in the late 50s as children.

Robin had to be able to hear his voice so he cupped one ear, you will see other singers do this (before ear pieces) but only for a second to make sure they are singing at the right pitch, I guess because Robin had such a unique voice he had to do it for entire songs

He held his ear to hear himself better, there were no ear pieces back then. That’s why most older musicians are now going deaf (Barry said in a recent interview he’s losing his hearing)

This is a beautiful medley of some of their earlier music. In their earlier concerts Maurice was always making the audience laugh with his antics on stage they all had really fantastic voices , with diverse ranges in the highest falsetto to very powerfully beautiful chest voices. Thanks for the great reaction, please react to REACHING OUT. ❤❤❤

I love this particular medley (musical sampling of songs) more than their later ones-- You really get why they were well-loved in the late Sixties and early Seventies (before the Disco Bee Gees craze of 1976-79). In their natural voices here, you can hear Robin's as separate from Barry's and the third voice from Maurice for their special three-part harmony. BTW, you can also appreciate their song-writing skills-- they wrote over 1000 songs (many top 20 hits all over the world, including Asia!!

They've had about four careers. Late 60s. Mid 70s. Disco craziness late 70s then another huge comeback in the 80s saw them through till the death of Maurice in 2003.

The first song was "New York Mining Disaster 1941" was written by Barry and Robin Gibb while sitting on a darkened staircase at Polydor Records following a power cut. The song recounts the story of a miner trapped in a cave-in. He is sharing a photo of his wife with a colleague ("Mr. Jones") while they hopelessly wait to be rescued. According to the liner notes for their box-set Tales from the Brothers Gibb (1990), this song was inspired by the 1966 Aberfan disaster in Wales. According to Robin, there actually had also been a mining disaster in New York in 1939, but not in 1941, and he thought "New York" sounded more "glamorous". In the second and third verses, the lyrical lines get slower and slower, as if to indicate that life is about to end for the miners.

The falsetto songs/era is only a little part of their songs. Barry discovered his ability to sing falsetto in the song nights of broadway in 1975, and they started singing in 1963 , so they had more than 12 years albums WITHOUT falsetto!

Continue BEE Gees Reactions from the list below! Just disregard the ones you’ve already done.
And yes, I had a crush on Barry back in the day. They also had a younger brother (Andy Gibb) who had a great solo career. He was too young to join his older brothers at that time. The Bee Gees were big in the Black Community back in the day. Please react to more!
Here’s a list with my interpretation of what genre I think they fall under:
Too Much Heaven (R&B) Went to #1
How Deep Is Your Love (R&B Ballard), went to #1
Staying Alive (disco), went to #1
Night Fever (disco), went to #1
You Should Be Dancing (R&B or disco), went to #1
Fanny be tender with my love (R&B). Quincy Jones said this was his favorite R&B song. It’s a favorite of mine too.
Jive Talking (R&B), went to #1
Nights on Broadway (R&B/Funk)..you’ll hear the brothers “natural” voices in this song.
Tragedy (Techno? Pop) It also went #1
More than a woman (Disco/R&B) One of the best love songs ever made!
Love you inside out (Funk/pop), went to #1
To love somebody (R&B) One of their earlier hits, from 1967!!! You’ll see how young they were.
    Massachusetts (pop/country), went to #1
Wind of Change (funk/r&b), live 1975 from the Midnight Special or live from their 1979 Spirits tour. They sing in their natural voices on this song.
Alone (pop): One of the songs they made late in their career.
Love So Right (R&B), One of Barry’s best falsetto songs ever.
Words (pop, 1979 Spirits Tour). Barry pours his heart out on this song and they show his wife & son on screen some while he was performing it.
Lonely Days (pop). One of the first songs they wrote after they got back together when they briefly broke up in 1969 then got back together in 1970 to write this.
You Win Again (pop), If you want to hear some 80’s Bee Gees, this is a good one. Went #1 in the UK
    Run to Me (pop)
How Can you mend a broken heart (R&B). The other song they wrote when they first got back together after a brief breakup. It was also their first #1 in the US
Kiss of Life (rock). Shows a diverse side of them.
One (pop), their last top 10 hit in the US
Wedding Day (pop), a single they wrote for their wives! All of them had been married for a while. Barry is will married to this day to Linda for over 53 years!
Rest Your Love on Me Awhile (country). Shows diversity!
Bodyguard (R&B), Robb really shines on this song that could have been played on any R&B radio station!
For Whom the Bell Tolls (pop), again, Robin shines on this one.
Blue Island - live (pop). This song shows the perfect blend & harmony the brothers have. Especially if you do the acoustic one. Just the 3 of them with 2 guitars!
Our Love, Don't Throw it all away-Bee Gee's or Andy's version (pop). After their brother Andy passed, they started performing this during shows in honor of him.
Secret Love (pop). I love the best to this song! Barry & Robin leads.
This is Where I Came in (live) (pop). From the very last CD they ever released. There is a live version out there from a tv show. That's a great one to see how they have evolved into the 2000's!
The 1989 One for all tour medley (excellent vocals & some humor). This is a little long (over 12 min), but they go through about 7-9 songs in this medley with just the 3 of them around 1 mic either Barry in the guitar.

Robin is listening to the back track. Later he used a little device held up to his ear. I prefer Barry's natural, lower voice. His falsetto is really great but his "chest voice" is awesome.

  • @lauriebarnes2999
    @lauriebarnes2999 ปีที่แล้ว +5

DAME, congrats on 13K subscribers! To answer one of your questions Robin held his hand to his ear to make sure his vocals were spot on, especially when it was really loud on the stage. That was the only way he could achieve perfection in the 70's. As improvements were made over the years he stopped cupping his ear. And, one more thing. Most reactors start with disco era songs where Barry sang lead with that famous falsetto of his but this medley you just reacted to were songs they recorded from the late 60's to the early 70's where Robin sang lead on most of their earlier hits or shared the lead (like "Run to Me") with big brother Barry. I'm hoping you react to more of their pre and post disco era songs. Robin had really beautiful leads in many songs before and after disco. Two songs I would suggest for the post disco era would be 1989's "Bodyguard" and 1993's "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Both songs showcase Robin's beautiful voice and I promise that you won't be disappointed.

  • @maryruggiero2884

that's Robin holding his ear. He does that to hear himself singing. He doesn't always do that, usually when the backing music or the crowd is too loud. jmho, but a medley seems like an odd choice. Check out "Man In The Middle", Maurice (Mo) sings lead. It's a little different. Or listen to "Gotta Get A Message To You", and, the Bee Gees write all their own music, and a lot of music for other artists. They wrote "To Love Somebody" for Otis Redding, who was set to record it, but was in a plane crash and died the week before. So the Bee Gees recorded it. I can only imagine what Otis would have done with it! "Alone" is a good newer one.
You do a great job, I'm looking forward to seeing much more from you! Peace.

Singers cover their ears with their hands when singing sometimes to hear their own voices better. Especially singing with a live audience all around or in front of a large band. In the 1970's there were not such advanced earpieces as they have now.
